Yeah, mine breezes through loading even the larger games I have downloaded, but the only thing I can compare it to are two of my friends that have OG PS5s that are near or at storage capacity or utilizing external drives to access the game they're booting.
If this makes SSDs slower, then that may explain my experience too. I would sometimes have game saves fail because it was out of room. Just always, constantly, completely out of room. Not that it was slow even then, just sometimes I would see loading screens for a second or two that I don't see anymore.

Actually, that reminds me that I did have one other issue with it: it would sometimes get too warm in my entertainment center, even though other consoles have always been fine in there. I had to take the back board off (the furniture, not the console) to increase air flow and then it was fine. The PS5 is bigger and needs more cooling than previous systems, I think, so keep that in mind when finding a home for yours. (Possibly not true for the Pro?)

It's a shame.. one of my favorite parts about growing up gaming were the couch co-op games. I'm glad to see the company that makes A Way Out, It Takes Two, and Split Fiction put a substantial effort into making those types of games in the modern world. It makes me feel less crazy for preferring couch co-op to MMO.
I agree! Sony has a couch co-op collection under the game collections section, and it's so sad that I don't know why they highlight it at all. I'm not sure you even have to scroll to see them all, and at least a few of the games listed aren't actually multiplayer.

The Pro uses about the same power as the regular PS5, and about 40% more than the launch PS4 or PS4 Pro (Slim models use less). It's definitely true that what might have worked before might no longer have enough airflow. I just keep mine out in the open.

Incidentally the PS5 uses anywhere from 12-25x more power than a launch-era PS1.

I refuse to get a PS5 pro because of no included disc drive.

That wasn't a deal breaker for me. If I ever need a drive, I can just buy one and slap it on. The disc drive failed on the PS4 Pro shortly after I got it, so, the ability to throw a modular one on the 5 is definitely appreciated.

I have about 800GB left on the drive, so I haven't experienced that issue yet.

It definitely produces some heat, but not quite as bad as the PS4 Pro it replaced. I can't speak for power consumption versus the 5 and 5 Pro, but, I've had my console horizontal since I put it in place and the entertainment center it's on does get warm. I've heard vertical gets better airflow, but I've heard the same about horizontal. Your guess is as good as mine.

Yeah, they bury that section under two other subsections all the way at the bottom. The disrespect.

Fair but the plus side is if the drive fails, you can just replace the drive instead of sending it for expensive repairs or replacing the whole the machine

Exactly. As a lifetime PlayStation player, this was a huge deal to me. Every single PS console that has failed me has been because of optical drive in some way, shape, or form. Being able to drop less than $100 to replace the drive when I have the technical skills of a caveman with consoles is great. When my PSX failed, I had to get the PS2. When my first PS2 failed, I had to spent $300 for a new one, and then $199 and $99 thereafter as the price dropped for the slim. Same deal with the PS3, I've been through two of those. The PS4 Pro was purchased for $300 after the PS5 had launched, and within 6 months the drive failed. For a pioneer in digital media, they sure suck at making stable drives.

Regarding your original question of what game(s) to play: IMO the best experience I've had on the Pro has been Astro Bot. I'm eager to try Returnal as well, but I haven't picked it up yet.

I'm not sure if you had a base PS5 or not, but on the entire system, the game that really blew me away in terms of looks was the Demon's Souls Remake. I wouldn't buy it if you aren't a Souls game person, but that game impressed me a lot.

I have that downloaded already, it's waiting for me to finish up Death Stranding 2 and Sackboy.

Nope. This is my first PS5, and hopefully my only. I got my ass handed to me in Elden Ring, so, I'm pretty sure the Souls games would end me.

Huh, I've never had a disc drive fail on any of my PlayStations. I don't use it much on my PS5 though. I didn't realize you could just hook up an external one, that does seem like a good solution.

Well, in their defense, I smoked around a few PlayStations and dropped/bumped others. It wasn't until I was older that I realized how much nicotine and smoke can damage electronics. Caveman brain, again. My later PS3s and PS4 were treated well, though, and all four of them had drive failures. As far as hooking up external drives go, that's just for game storage with the PS4 or 5 or the modular ones that go with the digital edition PS5s. I'm not sure if you can use an external disc drive.

I've never had performance issues with my Playstation consoles, but I also don't think I've actually bought a physical game since the PS3, so I'm definitely not putting regular wear-and-tear on it. Still, PS1 and PS2 held up perfectly too, even with doing the pull-the-disc-out-while-it's-spinning PAL/NTSC swapping trick on the original.

That said I don't think I've got any reason to upgrade to the Pro. I stuck a larger M.2 SSD in my current one and it's been enough to keep the games I care about playing installed. I don't find myself wanting to jump around titles all that much, so having to occassionally shuffle things around to get a PS5 game back onto the internal storage to run hasn't been a bother.

Split Fiction is definitely one you should play, very good couch co-op game. Not quite the same vibe as It Takes Two, it requires a little more skill in some parts, but as long as you don't get pissed failing and redoing a part because the other person goofed up it's fine.

Helldivers 2 is also a great game, if you'd give a fast-paced shooter a go, but does require you're playing online with others. I haven't had any bad experiences with random players though, I just don't care enough to get on voice chat and communicate with them.

Spider-Man/Spider-Man 2 are also great for getting a feel of how "expansive" things can get. Having a huge portion of NYC to explore is very cool and does a fairly good job of showing the performance of the PS5.

I made the switch to digital after my disc drive failed on the PS4 Pro, I wasn't going to drop the cash on a new console six months after buying one, and I'm not savvy enough to swap out the drive myself. It's also worth noting that I moved my consoles around pretty frequently, between taking it over friend's and moving. For all I know, I could have jarred stuff loose in transit.

Like I told another friend of mine... If I had an OG PS5, I wouldn't bother upgrading unless you're a performance snob. One of the biggest complaints I heard from people was having to upgrade storage with the original, but, with 1TB that's easy to do these days.

I have it on my wishlist. I'm gonna leave it there while we work through the backlog and see if it goes on sale between now and then.

I've heard that's pretty good, but, I fear my skills aren't up for those fast-paced games just yet. I've realized how rusty I've gotten since I haven't played much.

I had those on the PS4, and man, they were pretty fun. I just ended up bailing on the repetitive missions trying to build up before going too far into the story.
