Half-stealing Benzine's idea from the other thread. Wanted to say "Top 10" or something but I'm struggling to come up with my own answers, and I figure we can get more specific and start ranking Pokémon games, gens, starters, Eeveelutions, etc. too if we want. Here's the closest I can get to a Top 10 for the creatures themselves:

1. Haunter
Laugh Laughing GIF

Favorite Pokémon for pretty much as long as I can remember. Loved the short stint when he joined Ash in the anime. Seemed like a fun little goofball to have around while also looking cool as hell. Always thought this dude had a better design than Gengar even though most seem to prefer the latter.

2. Tyrantrum
7db659321d9b8d13ce2280c5d41279e5e491069d_hq.gif

Big ass T-Rex you can ride around with a nice color scheme as well.

3. Torracat
tumblr_oeje8y4I6m1qh8t5wo1_400.gif

Cool cute fire cat. It's a shame that he eventually stands up and turns into that Tony the Tiger furry bait, but I guess the heel wrestler concept is cool, so it could be worse.

4. Duskull
brianshepard_duskull_2021.gif

Another one that I wish had evolved differently. Dusclops and Dusknoir look almost nothing like it, and I wish it had kept the grim reaper look to it. Dusknoir has grown on me a bit, but I still think Dusclops is pretty lame.

5. Charizard
f3ggz75pd5c91.gif

Such a popular choice that a lot of people are sick of Pokémon catering to Charizard fans, but if I see a dope ass dragon as a kid of course I'm gonna like it. The mega evolutions and such that they added have only made him better.

6. Falinks
cbc.gif

I just think they're neat. If you haven't seen them before, all 6 of these little Kirby guys are one Pokémon that march together in a line. Fairly recent addition.

7. Toedscool/Toedscruel
toedscool-pokemon.gif
tenor.gif

Quite possibly the stupidest line of Pokémon they've ever made, and yet if you're like me you'll fall in love with it the first time you see this doofy fuck sprint by you in the latest game. Toedscool is funnier, but Toedscruel isn't as ugly and still looks pretty dumb when it hops around. I probably prefer the latter, but I couldn't not bring up the pre-evolution.

8. Luxray
tumblr_nuxx9qfCVa1r8sc3ro1_540.gif

Okay here's where things get hairy. I can't actually say whether Luxray truly deserves his own spot here because there are so many other good ones to choose from, but he's 8th today because I've always thought they were pretty cool.

I was about to put Wailord here next. But then I almost replaced him with Wishiwashi's school form, another giant sea creature. But the more I think about it, the harder the decision becomes between everything on the giant list I made. So, number 9 and 10 is a toss-up between all of the following: Wailord, Wishiwashi, Lugia (was easily one of my favorites when he was new), Jirachi, Dedenne, Galvantula, Regigigas, Giratina, Zangoose, Leafeon, Alolan Marowak, Solgaleo, Alolan Meowth, Shiinotic, Archen, and probably many more depending on how I'm feeling on any given day. There's too many of these little bastards to keep track of these days. I can't believe we're on Gen 9 right now.

Hmm, not a pre-existing list I had in my head, so trying to just think through every Pokemon that exists...

Pretty damn solid list in my opinion. Apart from Garchomp I can't disagree with anything there. I used to think it was one of the ugliest designs, but he's been growing on me slowly. I know that's a pretty unpopular opinion though. I've always been a big gen 4 hater.

I put it high on the list but more because I thought of it first. It's another I seem to use on every play through, like Scyther that I just switched in for Hydrapple. Garchomp tends to fill that niche, and it's a kind of cool shark/dino/plane thing. It's not amazing though.

My first six will be my team if Pokemon was real and I happened to be all that and a bag of chips/champion level. Not necessarily in any order otherwise.

1. Venusaur - am I a contrarian, or am I just often right? Venusaur is the best /my favourite starter and I think if you trained your Venusaur to be like Spider-man you'd have a great time.

2. Tyranitar - here's one of my big strong battle boys who's big and strong and i just loved playing with when i was doing a lot of battling online back in the day

3. Zapdos - cool as fuck

4. Gengar - who doesn't like gengar

5. Heracross - one of my favs, just love him

6. Palafin - love my new pal

7. umbreon - my fav of the eeveelutions, also used to love battling with them online

8. Suicune - cool as fuck

9. Nidoking - cool as fuck

10. metagross - cool af

Lucario's another one I could never really get behind. I don't think it's ugly or anything, but it always seemed so average for how much stuff they put him in. Always thought his hair testicle things were kinda weird, but he's grown on me as well.

Gonna rank some other stuff

Leafeon = Umbreon > Espeon > The original 3 and Sylveon > Eevee > Glaceon. I just don't like Glaceon because of its weird hair. Feel like we could've gotten a way better ice design. When are we getting more Eevee types btw? It's been so long.

Gen 2 > 1 > 3 > 7 > 5 > 6 > 9 > 8 = 4.
This is mostly based on Pokémon designs because I feel like that's the main difference between games, but general enjoyment and nostalgia is slightly factored in. Here's my wall of text:

Being able to go to Kanto in Gold and Silver games is huge, and Soul Silver might still be my favorite game to this day.
Gen 1 is near untouchable for me because it started everything and laid the foundation for what Pokémon is. Also nothing triggers quite a visceral level of nostalgia for me than the early seasons of the anime.
Gen 3 had just overall great for designs and Hoenn might be my favorite region. Double battles, abilities, contests, overworld weather, and secret bases were some of the coolest additions. I was in love with the way Pokemon contests worked in these games and wish they never changed them. Being able to dive underwater and having two villain teams were also pretty cool.
Gen 4 has always been my least favorite gen because my expectations were so high, and they gave us such a high concentration of Pokémon that I thought were hideous all at once, including many like Rhyperior and Lickilicky that felt like unnecessary evolutions for preexisting Pokémon. Most of Sinnoh designs have grown on me since they've been around for so long, but I still can't stand what they did to my boy Aipom. I used to think Sinnoh was also kind of boring map-wise, but after playing the remake I thought it was fine. The Underground and some other stuff was pretty cool.
Gen 5 is widely considered the best story and I'd probably agree, but there were still a lot of ugly Pokemon that sour it a bit for me.
Gen 6 I remember thinking was slightly better than 5 design-wise but looking back I think I actually prefer Unova's. I just constantly get Pokemon from these two gens mixed up for whatever reason. The jump to 3D was nice at the time but I remember X and Y being pretty bland. Mega evolutions were one of the coolest things we ever got, though.
Gen 7: I love Alola. I love all the regional variants of old Pokemon. Ultra Beasts were a little extreme but still cool. The story was interesting. The trials were a nice change of pace, maybe not the best, but everything felt so fresh. I actually had hope for the series at this point because they were trying new things and IMO it had the best designs in years. Everyone complains about all the handholding, but even after replaying Sun it doesn't bother me.
Gen 8: Sword and Shield has some solid designs and the wild area was a cool idea, but I will never forgive them for making Exp Share mandatory for your entire party. As someone who likes to use all his Pokemon and level them equally, this has nearly ruined the series for me because Pokemon all gain exp at different rates. My OCD ass had to keep swapping Pokemon into my PC to prevent them from being overleveled and I ended up with like 12 party members. Being able to do so at all times was great, and some of the gigantamax designs were awesome, but the whole dynamaxing thing felt like such a lame gimmick after seeing it so much. I also think raid battles are boring as hell and the post-game introduced the two most insufferably bad characters the series has ever seen.
Gen 9: I see a lot of people hating on Scarlet and Violet, and it certainly deserves some of it, but it felt at least better than the previous gen. It had strong designs IMO. Being able to challenge things in any order was nice until I realized the levels don't actually scale with you. Going to school sucked and the game takes forever to actually start. The trainer customization was simultaneously improved with character creation and ruined because you have to wear the school uniform the entire game. Story wise I felt like I was playing a baby game. The motorcycle Pokemon were goofy but fun to ride around on. Terastallization was meh. Paradox Pokemon were cool but had dumb names. Could not have been less excited about a feature than when they introduced Sandwiches. After Sword/Shield's DLC I didn't bother getting the DLC for this one, so no idea how that was, but I really don't like the few legendaries it added. I originally had this gen above 5 because of the Pokemon designs but after typing all this out I'm realizing how blasphemous that looks lol.

We could do with rounding out the Eeveelutions, adding in some combined elementals, etc.
As cool as dual-type Eevees would be, I think I'd be kind of disappointed if we got something like that before getting at least a few more monotypes. I've seen so many cool fan designs that I wish were real. I need Beevee in my life.

Is there a website I can reference that has the same size/art style for every pokemon? Is the bulbapedia reliable for this? I just want my post to look nice when I post it lol
Serebii is usually my go-to site for that sort of thing, but I would imagine Bulbapedia would be just as good.

Lotad was a very late cut from my list

I frigging love water/grass types though. That would be my gym theme.

I probably have some others I adore, but can't think of right now. I could maybe make a top 5, but after that there's a whole pile of cuties I like. Lotad I kind of forgot for a moment, but then the face appeared in my mind.

I'd probably be a fire lad myself. The idea of it kind of sucks though, as there's really no good counters as a gym hombre to deal against water. Turtonator is the only one that comes to mind that's just "ok". Oh well.
