That is true. And it might even work lol.
On a scale of 1 to papaya, how amused were you by it?

I realized it the last time I went back to Finland to see my folks that everything I thought as a kid was "so long and far away" was actually stupid close.when i went to austin, we landed at houston. i wanted to be get the american experience immediately and drive to austin but no one else was keen.
I'd say maybe people will start targeting me and/or not believing me for being part of it but uh... y'know.Don't worry about it. Some very good insider jokes. I can share post game / in the dead thread.
yeah but the furthest settlement from the ocean is 119km away (although windy, you can't just gun it). and our country is unbelievably hilly, you can't just make trains everywhere.Every time I've been to New Zealand we had to drive everywhere because once you leave the cities civilisation just evaporates into the ether.
I work from home too and have no kids and I've driven about 10k miles over the past three years. A calculator says that's about 60 miles a week on average. Everybody I know IRL jokes about how I never drive anywhere too.yeah but the furthest settlement from the ocean is 119km away (although windy, you can't just gun it). and our country is unbelievably hilly, you can't just make trains everywhere.
@Kat i drive mostly to school and back (which i can see the school from my house but the hill is massive and my child is 5 and i have to work immediately after dropping her off or even earlier), and to basketball... so probably like 5 miles a week, max. working from home exclusively and having school nearby makes a big difference for that though.
Nah I got a Honda Accord lol.do you have a car that's fun to drive at least?
Man, I can't drive that much anymore. Three to four hours in a day is about my limit nowadays. I have no idea how I once drove from here to Vegas (roughly 16 hours/1000 miles each way) for a long weekend. It seems like insanity in retrospect. This time of year im either flying or driving for football. I usually drive if it’s 6 hours or less, fly if it’s longer. I drove to Orlando back in August even though it’s 8 hours because I had to get back immediately and there were no flights.
I’ll be driving to DC on Friday and back on Saturday. 330 miles each way.
That drive back after Vegasing would be bruuutalMan, I can't drive that much anymore. Three to four hours in a day is about my limit nowadays. I have no idea how I once drove from here to Vegas (roughly 16 hours/1000 miles each way) for a long weekend. It seems like insanity in retrospect.
i'm basically speechlessNah I got a Honda Accord lol.
Back to my FL trip, here’s how fucked in the head I am. Football game was at 6 pm near Orlando. My wife was running a 10k Sunday morning at 7 am and was nervous about it and wanted me to run with her. So I worked the game. Ended at like 9:30, I’m on the road by 10pm. Drive all night, get to the race at 6am. Run the 10k race. And we had no childcare, so I was pushing the baby in the stroller the whole way.
…honestly I signed up for it just cause I wanted to see if I could do it.
Ooo we can get him to skip finally. Think if I go take a picture of my car's odometer, it'll put him over the edge?i'm getting disgusted enough by this conversation to potentially close the day
via the train thoughI used to commute about a third of the way across the country every morning to school.
I drive a 2024 and have about 12k on itWe bought a brand new car in 2021 and we have 86k miles on it.
This conversation made me check flights to DC and they’re $450. Fuck that I’ll drivei'm getting disgusted enough by this conversation to potentially close the day
It’s a leaseshortkut you are dead and also bought a new house and a new car so i hate you so you're mega dead
how long is that drive for you? i hear that, that's a lot of moneyThis conversation made me check flights to DC and they’re $450. Fuck that I’ll drive
That's probably cheaper than the gas to drive, what a deal.100 nz dollars at that, so like 65 usd
in my backwater shit town, you could fly to the big city for about that, party all night and all day and then just catch another flight home. if i didn't have a family and friends here, i'd move back home for much cheaper housing and then just go for weekend benders. That's probably cheaper than the gas to drive, what a deal.
Every time I try to budget out flying vs driving financially it gets ugly.how long is that drive for you? i hear that, that's a lot of money
for a long period of time we could fly to auckland from here for like $100 to go to the casino and watch the bigger sport. it'd be an 8 hour or more drive normally.
yeah this is different, this makes total senseEvery time I try to budget out flying vs driving financially it gets ugly.
My mom lives 800 miles away. It’s a 14 hour drive through every major city on the east coast of the US. So when we go visit, naturally we look to fly. But there’s five of us. $300 a pop and that’s $1500 to see grandparents. Or $100 to drive. So eff that children, enjoy the minivan life.
At least, if it was up to me…my wife disagrees and we’re flying for Christmas this year
@Zell 17 the dead thread want to know more about why you need to go to so much football, is it related to your job or something? Or are you just mentally harmed (that was me asking)?
That's sick, but sent to do what? Carry out assassinations? So college football is organized into groups of schools called conferences. I’m hired by a conference and can be sent to any school in the conference. Some of the conferences are quite large geographically. This year I’ve had games in Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, New York, Pennsylvania, etc.
