Frik… Victoria… Lawson… now those are some names I haven’t heard in a while. I still see Todd on Facebook from time to time, but I believe him and Victoria separated years ago.

Agreed. I have strictly family, friends, and FORMER co-workers on mine. If someone posts political shit, they get muted from my timeline. If someone posts stupid shit, they get muted. DM me 34 times WITH SINGLE WORDS? Muted.

My solution has been to stop looking at the news feed, and I'm way happier. In fact I try not to look at any news feeds pretty much ever, I use this extension News Feed Eradicator, that has been super helpful. Now I try to use Facebook kind of like Facebook was in the past, I have a folder of bookmarked profiles I check regularly for people I want to follow, super fast as I just open all in tabs at once, and otherwise just type in a name to go directly to whoever I'm thinking of at a given time. I've kind of trained people over time the behaviors I think are acceptable on my profile and the culture has mostly stuck, I think I've only blocked like 2 or 3 people ever out of 1000 FB connections. I also mute and/or mostly ignore messenger because having an arbitrary public to do list that anyone on the internet can add things to modern instant messenger is a nightmare.

I mute everyone I speak to frequently. I check my messages enough to be reliable, and in the event that I’m needed for an emergency, there’s the phone.

I agree with the sentiment that no one needs to be accessible to everyone forever and always. It’s fucking weird. Lemme take a shit, don’t bother me with your questions about account validation or show me what you did to your car to make it go vroom more than it did before.

Good idea. I keep my phone permanently on DND pretty much, but I should probably stop kidding myself with guilt and just mute everyone I talk to frequently, not just the people who repeatedly message me saying nothing at all. Except for this week of GW funsies, I try to have a hard rule of only responding to my messages before bed and if I don't get to it then I don't get to it, or like you said, I constantly get bombarded with shit that is not urgent. If you wouldn't call me on a landline in the 90's about it or drop a letter in the mailbox... I probably don't want the message in my inbox either. womp womp

As dependent as my jobs have been on technology, I’ve tried to make it a point to separate myself from that kinda stuff after hours. It’s kinda necessary if you want any semblance of a “normal” life… so I try to treat it as the old days, when I’m home… my phone is for replying to people I WANT to talk to as opposed to people who are just messaging me.

I’ll engage in a conversation with people, but it’ll be on my time… because I’m the one that’s gotta deal with running out of time in the day, not them. Obviously, that doesn’t apply to important or pressing matters… but… general conversation about your new grill? Cool. Don’t care. Got shit to do. We’ll catch up later.

Same. I get bored pretty quickly with anything that doesn't involve making some kind of worthwhile impact on the world or people I care about. Also messages that just say "how are you?" kind of make me want to die haha. I know they mean well, but damn, just tell me what you want, I got shit to do!
