hello I am here to host an argument

topic: moving gif reactions

premise: most of the gif reactions make the image more difficult to read/process and don't add anything extra that couldn't be conveyed in a single still image

concession: some of them ARE cool and should be kept... but having too many of them kind of spoil the effect and uniqueness of gif reactions

evidence: doh doesn't loop well, and would look better static. "I declare" doesn't add anything. Seth Meyers doesn't add anything. I'm not sure what the one with Mr. Incredible is conveying -- is he bored? waiting? typing? I also miss the old "This is fine" dog.

related: the static Phoenix Wright reaction needs to be reworked. This one would actually make sense as a gif.

rebuttal: (this is the part where you guys tell me how wrong I am below)

I agree, but I also realize Ben is doing this for free and did it really quick, maybe he plans to update it later, but Im not going to bug him on it

Overall I do agree that some work better as gifs and others as just a pic
Yeah, I considered whether to post this thread for a while. I don't want to seem ungrateful for all the stuff the staff here do for us, but in the end I figured everyone would probably want the best forum experience possible, and if others agreed, it would only help to improve the experience 🤷

We always appreciate high quality suggestions and look for new and unique ways to serve our wonderful clients better. We shall take this beautifully crafted feedback and take it all under advisement and act appropriately. We thank you for your feedback and look forward to providing a higher quality GWF experience moving forward.

All kidding aside, I'm sure we'll find a way of organizing and fixing the gif reactions to everyone's satisfaction. I would like to add back the static this is fire dog, though, even if we keep the gif, I agree with that sentiment, I think it fits as a separate thing. We'll figure this out :)

While I enjoy animated reactions, I didn't consider those prone to motion sickness. I think several can be reworked and consolidated. It's getting absurd on my PC because the bar doesn't stay open like on my phone. So by the time I try to click a reaction on the far left, the bar closes on me. They are a little out of hand lol.

I agree with p much everything kut said but I have a soft spot for emotional damage and I think the fire should def be animated
Yes, Emotional Damage was my baby and I agree it is the only one that needs to stay the way it is :link

I would be shocked if that wasn't the reaction I use the most lol

What broswer do you use? My reactions bar doesn't close on PC as long as my mouse is hovering over either the bar itself or the Like button.

Thanks for the feedback. Gone are the days of me not being able to admit I was wrong, so I concede I went a bit nuts.

I'm fully OK with an audit of what we've got, and I've got the rest of the week off work, so I'll put some time into converting some to statics and/or just deleting them.

1000x this.

Also, it was alluded to in another thread but as someone who is prone to motion sickness, so many small gif reactions in one place is not easy to look at.

This is something I had not considered, so my apologies.

I wonder if it's possible for previews to be static even for moving reactions?

I don't have an issue to be honest but I pretty much exclusively browse on either a 32" monitor or 16" laptop so they don't fill up much space on the display.

That’s an interesting take, but I’d imagine that there would be an edit to the template required, and along with that the creation of however many single frame previews.

They uninstalled my asshole drivers when they installed my femboy card, I just plain can't be mean anymore. I meant to go back and get the drivers reinstalled but they told me they couldn't see me that day and I understood, they were busy, so I decided I'd come back another time and they've just always been so busy, so I just haven't gone back yet. But one day! One day, buddy boy, you watch, I'll be oh so mean!

Comparatively, this is what mine looks like on mobile.

Yeah, likewise even with it maximized on desktop, it's a ridiculous bar.

I'll look into what we can do for the layout, too. I'm sure that's just defined somewhere in the templates.

I use Brave.

But that's the same behavior. I just have a hard time keeping inside that bar to keep it open. I have a widescreen monitor, so the bar stretches the length of the screen.

Alight, let's see.

If I find non-gif alternatives for these;
D'oh!
I declare!
This Close
This Is Fine
You Sure About That?
retch
They're Not Wrong

And just shit-can these;
So bored.
Gosh
Yawn
Any minute...

Then that leaves us with these left for "gif" ones;
Giggity!
Fuck!
Fair
Emotional Damage
How Dare You
Suspicious

I could axe those as well, too, though, if everyone would prefer just still frames.

Yeah, understood. If you go up/down with your mouse at all trying to get to the far end it's very likely to close. I'll look in to trying to limit it to 25 across or something.

D'oh!'oh!
- static
This Close
- static
This Is Fine
- static since the character is quite recognisable
You Sure About That?
- moving, but perhaps a static version would work
retch
- moving
I declare!
- static
They're Not Wrong're Not Wrong
- a static equivalent would be fine

So bored.
- probably remove
Gosh
- remove
Yawn
- I quite like this one.
Any minute...
- I quite like this one too. Maybe a static version with him just looking at his watch? Or just the yawn above would be fine.

Giggity!
- moving
Fuck!
- moving
Fair
- moving
Emotional Damage
- definitely moving
How Dare You
- no idea what this is, but I guess it needs to be moving to work?
Suspicious
- a static version would be fine

I know... I know... I'm a fair beggar.

I hope you have some frequent flier miles handy and a nice leather wallet for someone to bite down on, because you’re gonna be who we send out on a mission if this place gives someone a seizure.

No, but I have one of those sticks from the whipping scene in Starship Troopers.

I bounce around and flap my arms when I'm excited - and it's the only reaction that conveys excitement to me.

Do you still have the original reaction we had for this one?
See, this is why the Baymax hug needs to stay.

I thought I'd saved it, but I of course now cannot find it anywhere.

I think it's probably still sitting on the server somewhere. Once Crystal reminds me what the new URL was for that, because I also lost my bookmark... I'll look for the original. I guess the static one I just swapped to is a bit underwhelming... I'll can revisit it.

I don’t know why I needed that mental image in my head today, but I’m not gonna be able to scroll past any of yours posts without seeing it now.

It’ll work. We don’t have an excessive force policy for staff, so, do what you do, just don’t let the member die. We rely on the posts.

I can leave that one, but just curious, would this work?

Trying to shrink them down and keep them clear enough to read what they are is a struggle, but I'm on PTO from work and that seems to mean "I'm going to get myself stuck at my computer fixing things just like if I was at work anyway."...
