Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul: Take Two

After a nearly half year delay, tonight is the night those two finally square up.

The final weigh-in was yesterday, and Mike took it upon himself to discipline Jake for presumably having a punchable face:

It streams live on Netflix, starting at 8pm EST.

I saw a funny instagram comment where someone claimed they worked for the production company handling the event. They said an injury will arise in the 5th round, Tyson will throw the fight, etc etc. Got a lot of reactions but I'm sure it was just internet drivel.

What do you think? Do you think Tyson will actually fight this dude? Or is this a veiled fundraising attempt/just another fight where Paul needs to fight a retired fighter to win?

Yeah, my girl was just reading me the “script” from the fight, and it reads like anyone who has ever seen a Tyson highlight reel if I had to call it anything. No shit, Mike is a first-round aggressor? Those kind of matter-of-fact statements. Included in that is the 5th round injury, but, not included is how Mike shifts gears when he bleeds his own blood.

Considering promoters have been trying to book Tyson for matches since his ban expired/was lifted (can’t remember exactly which from memory), I think it’s a duly a money grab and a competitive match. Tyson wants to fight Paul on principle at this point, just to show the young buck a thing or two. Paul might have signed on for the clout and the money, and Tyson may have signed on for the money initially, but it’s personal for him now. He takes boxing seriously, it was his sense of purpose for years. Paul only cares about bragging rights, and, I’m sorry… you don’t go from the fights he’s had thus far to Tyson expecting a wash. He’s too arrogant, and Tyson is as locked-in as he was in his prime, but he has the discipline and humility of a grown man. That’s a dangerous combination, assuming this isn’t all just a gimmick match for ratings. Even if it were… I don’t see Tyson taking a fall for anyone, let alone a cocky bastard like Paul.

Skeptics are bringing the 3in height difference into the mix, but, I don’t think that’s gonna matter. Tyson’s quick enough to make up for that gap, and has the delivery to make Paul pay for arrogantly thinking 1/4 of a foot is gonna make a difference.

I cannot STAND Jake Paul. I hope Tyson can channel his 20s and beat the snot outta him and shut up his ego once and for all. I'm not a boxing fan, but I've been waiting for this fight in the hopes it's on the up and up and Tyson is still able to kill this bitch.

Holyfield this bitch!

Have you seen some of his training videos? I can only HOPE I have that kind of delivery at his age if the need arises. His jabs are just as razor sharp as they ever were, and his hooks are fucking lethal.

Paul has not fought anyone in his weight or age class.

All his wins are against people he outweighs significantly or are older than him by at least a decade. Most are fighters from other sports and most hadn't trained in boxing long enough.

When he fought someone of similar age and weight, it was Tommy Fury. Guess what happened in that fight?

I just hope Tyson is out for blood. If the weigh in is any indication, Tyson is Iron Mike indeed.

There’s a video of Tyson’s old trainer floating around, guy said he’s known him since he was 13. He wasn’t sure how he felt about the bout until he saw Tyson train, and now he’s convinced Tyson’s in the best shape he has ever seen him in.

I just flipped on the docuseries on the fight for shits while we wait for the fight... first line from Mike Tyson was..

"I was enjoying life. Smoking a lot of weed. Doing a lot of mushrooms. Doing whatever the hell I want."

I'm now calling him @Mark Tyson.

I would absolutely come out of retirement to smack around a broccoli-headed dipshit if I were Tyson, so this is accurate. It makes for a good smoke story.

Glad it'snot me, but fucking feed the hamsters! Need to watch Tyson kick ass!

That’s what I was telling Krys earlier… we were experiencing freezing in between the first and second match during the post-fight commentary. If it’s bottlenecked that much during a time most people are taking a piss break or not even tuned in at all… what the hell is the main event gonna be like?

This co main even looked interesting too. All I heard was the announcers screaming "WHOA!" and everything is skipping and fuzzy. Aggravating. Doubt they'll be able to fix this in the next hour.

I’ll tell you another thing… Camera crew and production crew better get their shit together. They had a WIDE shot going for the first punch thrown in the Taylor/Serrano fight.

Shit at this point Paul/Tyson may be a disappointment compared to this lol

Justice for Serrano! She won that

Those headbutts Taylor threw were dirty, but I still give them both credit for hanging in there. It was an incredibly high-energy fight the entire time.

Mike looked old. He wasn’t mobile. I honestly wanted him to knock out Jake in the final 10 seconds of round 8 when Jake was honoring him
It was the exhibition match we all expected.

The only chance was round 1. Paul could have killed Tyson because he was a statue. Tyson just had nothing in the tank after round 2. The fact he lasted all 8 was staggering, but he could do nothing but hold his arms up. Couldn't throw a punch.

All that hype and the women's match was a million times more entertaining.

Exactly. When his coach told him before the start of the 8th round that he needed to speed things up, I immediately said that should have been going into round 1. At that age, you’ve got maybe 3 good rounds in you before you’re too winded to recover in-between rounds. After that? You’ve gotta look to survive on points.

I was hoping to see a first round KO, a cocky Paul leaning right into a devastating uppercut and that be the end of it. Tyson doesn’t break a sweat and comes away with the KO we all wanted.

I think it was pretty clear after round three what was going on. Paul got some really good licks in in round three. And you could see him pulling his punches after that. He easily could have annihilated Tyson from that point.

But you know what, kudos to Tyson. I'm 17 years younger than him and I was winded from sitting and watching them by round 2.

Yeah, I agree. I used to love sparring and boxing with my friends, and I couldn’t see me going that long at 38… let alone 20 years from now.

I give Tyson a ton of credit, though. He had to train harder than he did before to get to where he is now, and it shows. For being a nearly 60 year old man, I certainly would not want to go toe to toe with him. If we were talking about a 27 year old Tyson against a 58 year old boxer, we’d be having an entirely different conversation.

I would have loved to see a 27 year old Tyson against a 27 year old Paul.

I can't say I'm impressed with Paul. Like at all. Yeah his left jab is quick... but that was it. Maybe it was Tyson and maybe it was Paul backing off some, but he carried his hands so low a younger Tyson would have knocked him out within seconds.

I can't see Paul facing anyone legitimate. I think he dies if he does.
