Trials/Death
In this game, you aren't voting to lynch anyone, you're voting to send them to jail. The person jailed is not immediately removed from the game, but instead is "put on trial" during the next day phase. Once jailed, they cannot use any special abilities until released from jail (be that by early release or being found Innocent). However, when on trial, you can feel free to role claim as much as you want to try and save your bacon. Otherwise, I ask that you refrain from any role claiming. Hinting, however, is allowed.

The minimum amount of votes to arrest a player will be roughly the number of citizens / 2.

A handful of players will be chosen at random as the Jury for each trial and they will decide if the player is Guilty or Innocent. Guilty players are killed and removed from the game. Jury Verdicts are decided by simple majority.

Jurors get 1 vote and cannot change it. Be sure before you make your decision.

During each day phase you will also be concurrently deciding the next player to arrest (keep an eye on those juries).

~~~~~~~~~~
Tells/Clues
Each mafioso will have a "Tell", which will somehow affect how they participate in the game. When a Citizen uncovers a "Clue", they will learn one of these "Tells" at random.
~~~~~~~~~~

Tarot Cards
Each player will be assigned a Major Arcana Tarot Card. This is mainly for randomization purposes but will be used in other mechanics as well.

-----------

In this game there are 11 Citizen roles, chosen from the following:

Lawyer: Once per game can release a Defendant from Jail, by contacting the Governor via DM.
Gumshoe: Each night, can guess one of the Tells. If they are correct, this will be confirmed, uncovering that Clue.
Good Cop: Once per game, at night, can arrest a player to be put on trial the next day.
Vigilante: Each night, can watch over a player. If that player is attacked by the mob, a random mobster dies instead. (If the attacker was the Button Man, the Button Man will be the one killed)
Judge: Once per game, during a trial, can either release a player or condemn them to death.
The Snitch: When arrested for the first time, uncovers a Clue.
The Madam: Each night, she can provide shelter for a player, preventing kills or arrests. The protected player cannot use abilities.
Clairvoyant: Each night, uses their mystical abilities to converse with the land of the dead.
Gypsy: During the day, chooses a Tarot card from the first 16 Major Arcana (via DM to me). If the player that corresponds to that card dies, uncovers a Clue. If the corresponding player had publicly announced their Arcana, the Gypsy subsequently loses this power.
The Patsy: When killed, uncovers a Clue.
The Foreman: Gets 2 votes when on a jury. Breaks ties.
The Angry Man: If placed on a Jury that finds a Citizen Not Guilty, uncovers a Clue (if they voted Not Guilty).
Bailiff: Once per trial, can switch a Juror out for a player not on the current jury. This can be a player in another jury, but they will trade places in this situation. (Via DM to me)
The Librarian: If the Librarian is in the game, anyone who makes more than 30 posts in a day can be "Shushed". "Shushed" players can only post once the following day.
Peeping Tom: Can watch a player at night. If that player is attacked, uncovers a Clue.
Barkeep: During the day can attempt to poison a player via public post. If the target is a villain, they are killed. If the target is a Citizen, the Barkeep dies instead.

In this game there are 4 Mobsters, chosen from the following:
The Don: Can only be killed by being found Guilty at Trial. There will always be a Don in the game.
The Consigliere: Each night can investigate a player, discovering their role.
The Cleaner: Twice per game can prevent deceased player roles from being revealed to the City at daybreak. The Cleaner will still learn these roles.
The Button Man: Once per game, at night, can kill a player in addition to the normal mob kill.
Mob Lawyer: Once per game can release a Defendant from Jail, by contacting the Governor via DM.
The Con Man: At night, can give a Citizen a random Tell that they have to perform for the rest of the game. If they fail to perform that Tell while the Con Man is alive, the Citizen is killed.

Solo Player:
Mad Bomber: Each night, can tag a player who posted an equal or fewer times than the Mad Bomber the previous day. At any point during the day, can trigger their explosives, killing all tagged players.

Win Conditions:
Citizens: Eliminate the Mafia and the Mad Bomber
Mafia: Eliminate the Mad Bomber and have the same number of players as the Citizens
Mad Bomber: If they are alive when the last Citizen OR Mobster dies, they win.

Silence and Silencers

Its typically quiet in The City Public Library, but this isn't a typical night. There's too much work to do.

Trevor Danger of The Detective Agency (cleverly named after our fair City) has a lead. He brought a couple of his associates with him to do some legwork. Trevor has a knack for piecing together elaborate plots and puzzles, but he's never been great with people. In fact, he can't even recall the Christian names of his accomplices (even after working with them for years), instead simply referring to them as "Chubs" and "the Northman".

Danger has been retained by a wealthy local businessman to get to the bottom of this whole Mad Bomber situation, but when he stopped into one of the many speakeasies dotting The City to grease some palms and gather intel, he stumbled onto something else. Something just as sinister. The Mafia has risen once more.

Trevor already sent the Northman up to the second floor to dig through any books they have on the history of La Cosa Nostra for background. When the Northman grumbled about why Danger couldn't do that his damn self, Trevor yelled back "you know I don't come to the library to read books!" This was promptly met by a loud "SHH!" from somewhere in the distance.

"Sorry 'bout that."

Now Trevor sits hunched in front of a shiny new Recordak, going through microfilm projections of old newspapers, looking for anything suspicious. Problem is, to Trevor, everything seems suspicious. He calls over to his other associate, who's looking through some stacks, "Chubs, I tell ya, so far I've seen about 67 different things to look into...hey, wait! This might be something! Say, Chubs, can you head down to the basement where they got the City maps? Bring me anything they've got for the port warehouses!"

"Yeah, sure thing boss. I'm on it!" This is met with another, more angry "SHH!" from somewhere nearby.

"Sorry 'bout that."

Danger gets back to work, alternately scanning the microfilm and jotting away in his well-worn notebook. Time passes and soon Trevor realizes he hasn't heard from either of his partners in a mighty long time. "Hey Chubs! What's your twenty, guy? Chubs? I think I've got this narrowed down to about 7 spots..."

"SHH!" This time its coming from right behind him. "Geez, I'm sorry, okay?" is his reply as he puts his hands up in mock surrender and turns...and sadly realizes how ironic the gesture is. He comes face to face with a man in a black pinstripe suit and fedora, one gloved hand holding a pistol...the other finishing screwing on a silencer.

"You talk too much, boyo."

TD was killed by the Mob. He was the Gumshoe. (High Priestess)

Otherwise, it was a quiet night. The innocent citizens of The City have taken a couple heavy losses...is this the day they turn the tide? Or shoot themselves in the foot?

Fool's Requiem is on trial.

@Fool's Requiem - why should we not execute you? I've noted now that one suspected (from my perspective) mobster voted for you to go on trial, but it was while the tides had already seemed to turn that way.

@canadaguy and @Tubby23 please drop a NOPE! reaction to this post if you've been shushed by a librarian.

Not game related really, but has anyone here actually served on a jury?

I haven't, but I'd quite like to. But I'd be worried that no one will agree with my decisions haha.
Yes, once for a federal case and once for a city case. Most recent time was January 2022. It lasted about 2 weeks, and taught me a lot about how fucked up every sort of system we've had in place for hundreds of years are. A guy was accused of armed robbery with a wine opener that had a two inch blade. There was very clearly personal beef between the robber and the robee. To the point where some of us speculated that the robee owed the guy money and he was coming to collect. But because that wasn't "part of the case" we couldn't let that impact our reasoning on whether the guy performed armed robbery or not. Left a weird taste in my mouth. The guy was guilty for sure, but there were so many other facts that were either ignored or purposely removed from the record because it was denied by the prosecution or the judge. Some fucky shit man.

Voting Local Hero.

Now it doesn’t matter if FR lives or dies, what matters is who voted what. We already know local is next for trial, but what are our thoughts on the jury pool?

That's only Tubby who is voting on FRs lynching, right?

So, I died a bit early in the previous version of this, and don't really remember much, so I'm a bit off on the flow of this game... I don't have any knowledge that FR is bad. Do I like... wait for my peers to tell me what info they might have?

Can anyone remind me of the sorta flow of the game and where we're at so far?

Also confirmation that the librarian apparently shushed everyone who posted over 30 times based on the reactions to my post where I asked for it.
The Librarian: If the Librarian is in the game, anyone who makes more than 30 posts in a day can be "Shushed". "Shushed" players can only post once the following day.
The rule doesn't state that everyone will be shushed, just that they CAN be shushed.

@VashTheStampede can the librarian shush EVERYONE who posts more than 30 times or are they only able to shush one person? If they can shush more than one person per round, can they choose who not to shush while still shushing multiple people?

They could target any and all people who post over the limit set for that game.

GUILTY CUZ THERE IS NO PUMPKIN SPIPCE IN SMARCH
I just realized that I never updated the rules during the last game and you weren't playing:

You only get one attempt at voting as a Juror. No changes.

Now obviously you didn't bold this and it was a joke but I wanted to inform you now that you reminded me.

Rule post has been updated now btw.
