Huh.

So the trajectory that she showed looks like it's going over North America and then Africa, then touching the bottom (lol) of Australia.

But the actual site seems to show it skirting South America, over Africa, then over Asia.

It's possible that the predicted trajectory is just shifting a lot since she uploaded that 7 or so hours ago, but her screen also clearly says "Venera 8 landing module", not "Cosmos 482" that she's talking about. I can't find a Venera 8 on that site though.

:shrug

If the trajectory she showed was true though, probably passing nearest to @Crystal. I wasn't able to get the Google map to overlap perfectly with the site map, even with liberal amounts of perspective fuckery. Close enough though.

Considering the lander module of Venera 8 landed on Venus on 22 July 1972 you won't!

I think she just used the wrong chart. It is Kosmos 482 which is expected to re-enter.

I was disappointed when she started talking about a stupid satelite.

Also, does insurance cover damage caused by falling space debree?
Maybe. If a different country launched the satellite and it damages your property, then the country that launched it is liable. If it's the same country, then your own country's laws apply. (In the USA, you generally need to prove negligence by whoever launched it. Good luck with that.)

IMO that's the exact kind of thing insurance should cover, so I bet they mostly don't.
