So, at some point early this year, I'll be hopping into the Yakuza series with this title. It'll be in a backlog for me with Persona 3 and FF7 Rebirth taking up the majority of the next couple months.

But, I played about 5 minutes of Yakuza 0. (Checks steam: ok 6 hours... 4 years ago) Other than that, no experience with Yakuza games.

Does anyone have a good resource for a "Story So Far" kind of thing? Preferably like a video with narration I could watch with clips from the game? I'll do my searching later, but some people may have something already they know of.

I don't have time to replay the whole series, sadly, though I would and want to at some point, but the back log is too full. With 8 prior games on average of 70 hours per game with how I play, we're talking at least 8 months for me to play all of them. So, I'm looking to shorthand it.

so the nice thing about this game is that there’s really only one (maybe two) titles you need for background. that’s yakuza: like a dragon and like a dragon gaiden: the man who erased his name. everything else is about kiryu who, is in this game and all, but he’s not the main protagonist, ichiban is

yakuza: like a dragon covers ichiban and the other one covers kiryu. as for yakuza 0-6, having that background knowledge certainly Helps, but it’s not super necessary. kiryu was in the yakuza once. now he is not. he would like to be left alone. this does not happen. and you’re caught up on kiryu’s story!

as for like, the story so far type stuff, yakuza games are typically pretty good about building that sort of thing into the beginning of each game. idk if this one has anything like that tho

I am only 4 hours in but its fun. Kind of cringey in spots, but its just fun and gonna get more involved once I get to the next section.

I'm in the same boat and cannot find a good "story so far" video. The only ones I've seen are over 2 hours long, and then meme riddled ones that are just comedy.

I'm not worried about understanding the background, but they have done a decent job doing quick "remember when this happened?" scenes. So I don't feel like I'm too much out of the loop.

Cringe is part of its charm, you'll get used to it. It's not too bad IMO, but there are moments in this series
