Multi I've already decided my GOTY

It's Final Fantasy XVI.

I haven't even completed it yet, but I love it. The characters, the interactions, the boss fights. THE MUSIC.

Unless Spider-Man 2 blows me away, which is likely as Insomniac are excellent, there's no contender.

Any games you played this year that hold that place in your heart? OR any games from yesteryear that you've began to play this year that you feel are your GOTY for this year?

So far this year I have played Horizon Forbidden West, God of War, God of War Ragnarok, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Chained Echos, Ratchet and Clack Rift Apart, and am working through FF16.

The first three were the best, but they don't qualify for this year. So I guess it's FF16 so far for me. I'm not sure what else is coming out this year that I want to play so we'll see.

Specifically focusing just on that "GOTY" part, I think Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will win by default for me. It's, as far as I can remember right now, the only game releasing in 2023 that I fully intend to drop everything else for and play. And one of only maybe a dozen I'll add to the backlog at full price.

I've played a handful of games this year in general so far, but nothing really good or noteworthy. Reconnecting with Rock Band 4 (well, the series; playing with RB4 for the first time) was nice. Took a bit to get all the rust off and get into the groove of playing on Expert after a decade or so, and obviously the community isn't a fraction of what it used to be so just kinda played solo 99% of the time, but still. It was nice. I miss it.

You are correct. End of discussion 😂

I’ve not finished it yet, I’m savouring every glorious second. I know I’m a fanboy but damn is this good. I didn’t care for 15…..

It's hard to see anything topping Tears of the Kingdom for me. I don't really buy any Playstation games upon release because they always drop in price fairly quickly, so I probably won't play Spider-Man 2 until next year, although it definitely won't be as good as TOTK. By contrast, I have no problem buying Switch games upon release since they won't get cheaper, but the only one I'm fairly certain I'll buy is Super Mario RPG, so we'll see if that has a shot.

Dude yes. I spent a lot of time trying to find the drums and game on the market last year and it was way too expensive. I've wanted to get back into that so hard but I can't spend the money for what I know would be a one week revival and then I'd put it away.

I loved those old guitar heroes and rock band games. So much fun and I know I could still be pretty good at them.

My current GOTY standings:

1. Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
2. Final Fantasy XVI
3. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
4. Diablo IV
5. Like a Dragon: Ishin!
6. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line
7. AEW Fight Forever
8. Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania
9. Destiny 2: Lightfall
10. Hi-Fi Rush

FF16 still has a chance to take my top spot if it continues as strong as it has but I've heard some complaints about the latter parts of the game. Here's hoping it nails the landing.

Still SEVERAL unreleased games in the running for me, mainly Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield, and Spider-Man 2.

When did RB4 come out?! I frequently play Clone Hero (guitar) but I miss the drums SO MUCH. They're so hard to find. I'm thinking of getting an eDrum kit just to play my favorite songs. So far my library has around 100 songs from RB 1-3, and GH 1-5.

Like 2016 or so, for PS4 and Xbone. Was super feature incomplete at launch, didn't even have online play, and so there was basically no positive word of mouth for it. They've since updated it to add in missing features, even gave it an expansion (Rivals, which is now free), and it's... better. Sadly still not as good as RB2/3.

The PS4/Xbone instruments and adapters were still reasonably priced circa 2018 when I got mine, but they've since been jacked up too. Everything's way too expensive and of questionable quality.

I’ve seen 5 or 6 of my friends outside of here say the same damn thing… and they all have varied tastes in games.

Insomniac is still on my shit list for Resistance 3, though. I won’t forgive them.

Ima wait until Sonic Superstars comes out to figure out what my GOTY is. I haven't played FF16 yet though. But I'm definitely looking forward to Sonic Superstars. xD
