Also I'm pretty sure it's the gutters up on the roof that suck and are clogged, not just above the door. I went out with a brush thinking I'd clear the blockage above the screen to maybe stop so much coming down on the garage door (which is right below the balcony), but there ain't shit for me to clear.

Literally every app I have is going off with "Flash Flood warning!", so I'm not surprised there were only 3 sandbags left on the pallet.

Depending on how old your building is, there may be a screen over the downspout that might need cleared. If it's not properly maintained, sometimes those screens can collapse into the downspout and cause a blockage in it.

I mean, they're relatively modern townhouses, but the maintenance sure ain't been up on the roof in the 2-3 years I've been here. I'm assuming the gutters are probably full of those little helicopter seed pods off of maple trees or whatever. There are a bunch of those stuck to the screen door, and all over my balcony now.

It's another case of "I ain't paying to have someone come clear the gutters for this place", but "it'll take property management 3+ months to do it themselves."

I'm assuming there's probably some bullshit rule that I can't climb up on the roof myself, too.

All it'll take is one unmaintained Fall for those gutter screens to clog. Honestly, I would approach maintenance with the concept that a clogged gutter could cause structural damage in the worst case scenario, and gutter damage in the best case. If you make it about dollars and cents, and they're more likely to jump, at least in my experiences.

As far as you doing it... I'm SURE they'd have a major issue with you doing it yourself. Most leases prohibit even the most minor of repairs and maintenance for insurance purposes. Because, you know... you've gotta be licensed. bonded, insured, and OSHA compliant to remove leaves from a gutter.

Rain finally stopped. Sandbags didn't do all that much to keep it out, I probably needed more so it wasn't just one line. Plus they're supposedly just ones intended to put extra weight in the bed of trucks during winter for traction or whatever.

It at least slowed the rate at which it was coming in, so I could move them and bale the water out every now and then. I'll have to work out some more permanent solution if it's going to keep pissing it down this hard.

Or, like... Organize my garage so nothing is on the ground, but who the fuck has time for that?

I have a friend that used to live in coastal Georgia, and he used to wrap pool noodles up in plastic and butt the sandbags up against those to create a seal for his garage. Cheap. So, it's worth a shot in the future, maybe?
