Alright, so some catching up to do. I've been dipping into Marvel Unlimited on holiday, and have read 1-25 of Remender's Cap Run, and then All New Captain America Fear Him 1-6 and am going to read the first arc of the proper All New Captain America now (I've read the first four up to now).
It's a bit meh to be honest. The Dimension Z stuff (1-12) is really no better than average. The two arcs after that aren't very good at all, and then the last arc wraps some of the lingering Dimension Z stuff up and is better than the middle two arcs, but still not better than average. Save for it being the story as to how Sam Wilson became Captain America and introducing Nomad, I don't think it's worth reading.
Fear Him was fine. A filler story but passable. Again, I don't regret reading it but it's not essential by any means.
The actual first arc of All New feels like much more classic Cap to me. A proper Hydra story. Yes, they're having to do some work on Sam's back story to make it all fit, but it feels decent enough to me. It's sort of a 3.5 stars, whereas Fear Him was maybe a 3, and the Dimension Z beginning and end is a 3 with the middle bits being a 2 if I'm being generous.
I don't want to post any sort of spoilers, but am happy to discuss these if people want to.
After this I'm reading some Thanos from 2007 (I think), which apparently is good pre reading to Infinity and Secret Wars. After that I'm pretty much ready for Hickman's Avengers run into infinity and Secret Wars. May well finish Bendis' X-Men arcs first (I read the first five issues of All New X-Men before I went away and, the contrived time travel plot line aside, quite liked it) with the associated Guardians arcs, but I don't think they're necessary pre reading for Secret Wars.
