Hey guys, what's up. Cool this is a thing. I used to be pretty active in the early days. I remember being a lot younger than most everyone else, and pretending to be much older. I had a pretty disastrous mod career of the Thunderdome and other places and ended up getting banned. I had to have been the youngest mod. My parents bought me a PC for my room and I remember staying up all night. I pretty much taught myself to write on GW.

Definitely a lot of familiar usernames and memories coming back. I remember chasing the post totals and how we had a whole system of awarding people for hitting milestones first. I can't imagine the time I must have put in chasing those haha. I remember us catching another website copying our reviews and codes by putting in wrong info then seeing that they copied. Def remember Al, what happened to him. I think I became a heel at some point?

Hey Falcon, welcome home :)

Sounds like you had quite the GW career, lol, your name seems familiar, but I'm not sure if we interacted or not in those early days, I wasn't exactly a frequent visitor to the T-dome, so perhaps not, lol. Al's still out there, doing his thing, but not so involved with GW and not at all involved with our venture here at GWF, sadly. I got his blessing before launch, though ;)

100% learned how to write because of GW. Those Clubs & Clans Wars were serious, yo. I had to explain why my katana was electrified.

Not sure I specifically remember you from the old days, but welcome back all the same.

Al never became a heel, just an/another absent father to us. It's pretty much every other admin except Crystal that had their villain arc.

Your username is definitely familiar, but, I could also be mistaken you for DarkFalcon… unless that was your heel turn you mentioned?

Either way, welcome back to the forums. Glad to see another old one make their way back here.

My first thought too was of DarkFalcon.

If so I may have had a post race or two with you in the early days.

Ohhhh. I read that as "he became a heel" thinking he was talking about Al. Not himself.

I was real confused how Al talked to anyone enough to be a jerk.

GW taught me to write, not to read.

You guys are right, I was totally DarkFalcon! How could I forget that. I came back as Falcon after the ban. What a fun stroll down memory lane. My end of life notice email in 2017 said Falcon so that's what confused me.

One funny observation, as I've grown and consumed more media i've had little light bulbs go off in my head about certain usernames that pre-teen me did not understand. Man this is making me smile, I'm going to try and be around.

I knew it. I found a collection of pictures I took from my old work laptop on the Wayback Machine (couldn’t actually screenshot due to work-related security restrictions) and could have swore I remembered seeing the DarkFalcon username up there as a T-dome mod on the forum staff back around 03-04, which was around when I used the “Wicked” username.

Ya I was just checking out that snapshot of the records thread. I am ashamed to admit I was responsible for the "cool lists". My god :p
Thanks for digging Mark, I think I remember "Wicked". I was 13 in 2003 haha.

It is amazing how much people have been able to preserve from the old forums. Those yearbooks are probably among the oldest we have.

I thought that was cringe until I tracked down my 2001 yearbook entry! I cannot believe these things still exist, i'm down the rabbit hole.

Yeah, like Mark said, it's insane how much people preserved, so awesome to see it all still floating around, and when we got this place up and got the chance to archive it again, awesome! :)

It's not hoarding, we need these things! Don't throw away those used pizza boxes or that expired milk! We need those!!

Well thankfully we have our Smithsonian or whatever here now to preserve these artifacts! And that so many of you had the foresight to save things. I think my mindset at the time was that everything on the internet would be permanent.

Yeah I think a lot of us got complacent that GW would always be there, and that we could just go back whenever we wanted to find our past stuff. Even with Al purging the database now and then, it still felt like enough was maintained to keep the crux of GW history in place...but we learned that's not the case. Thankfully we got this second chance!

Oh man. Thankfully I hacked the forums to save everything there.
Also I just remembered my favorite thing about the "hacking" that's usually overlooked.

It wasn't planned to go down like that. It was just supposed to be a change of everything and then switching back without saying anything about it and moving on. I didn't know it was going to happen until it started, at which point while I was talking to (I think) Toni, she told me who was doing it and why. So I just said "tell him to make an announcement saying I did it and everyone is mad because that would be funny" and then apparently that was enough of an argument to get an announcement out saying everyone should flame the shit out of me if they saw me.
