Music Favorite Albums of 2023

[The Eye in the Sky!]

I wanted to get this started because I have a lot of trouble finding new music to listen to and often forget that even some bands I really like release new music. I end up listening to a lot of the same albums over and over because unless someone recommends something I tend to gloss over bands/albums. I'm very into music peer pressure.

This year I joined another member's music discord and have gotten so many recommendations out of that. I know there are people here with more of my taste in music so we should have that here.

My top albums so far this year:

Haken - Fauna (prog rock)
Riverside - ID.Entity (prog rock)
Crown Lands - Fearless (Sounds like Rush)

I could use some suggestions as the only new album I know coming out from bands I like is Stone by Baroness.

It's been a great year for music! Here are my favourites so far:

• Screamer - Kingmaker
• Blood Star - First Sighting
• Night Demon - Outsider
• Megaton Sword - Might & Power
• Gatekeeper - From Western Shores
• Haunt - Golden Arm

All of these are traditional heavy metal, but other subgenres have had some good releases too, this is just the one I find has been the strongest for the last decade or so.

Hmm. Not sure what has come out this year, trying to do a quick look some of my favorites like Foo Fighters, Boygenius, Paramore and Lana Del Rey I think all release one this year, but I wasnt a huge fan of the new albums.

Grace potter has a new album coming out, but I haven't been big on her two singles so far. Ben Folds has a new one coming out, I have liked one of his two singles.

Last year in October though Red Hot Chili Peppers Return to the Dream Canteen was amazing and I still love listening to it

Yes and no. Pop as in more the sound than it just being popular

Not sure if I would consider REM or SY as indie pop, but they're adjacent enough to get the point across and of course its hard to pin down musical genres

I wish I could get into bands with harsher vocals but I just can't because Periphery always comes up on my mixes since it is prog metal heavy. So many people I talk to really like them but I don't.

I find the trick to getting into harsh vocals is to follow the progression that happened historically. I'm actually always a bit surprised so many people are into modern bands with harsh vocals when they haven't heard the classics because it feels like jumping from A-Z.

For what it's worth, my recommendation for a progression is: Metallica --> Slayer --> Kreator --> Death --> you can go anywhere from here.

I can't stand metal. My fiance wants to go to a Sabaton concert. I said I'll drop him and a friend off and pick them up, but please don't waste a ticket on me.

Yeah, I get it, loads of people I've shown Periphery have struggled to get into it, either it's Spencer's vocals, or just didn't like the vibe, or prog just being difficult for them. Different strokes and all that. I wonder if you'd like some of his side stuff? Check out Cosmic Meltdown by King Mothership if you fancy it
