Do you remain friends with your ex?

After a break up, do you decide to stay on good terms with your ex or do you both just quit having anything to do with one another and move on and start seeing other people?

Depends on the ex. Some of them I've been able to keep in touch with or even run into and only have good memories and such. Others were not great and I'd rather not even accidentally run into them ever again.

In college it was pretty easy to not have hard feelings with them.

Hmm, depends how serious it was. A serious relationship, no, we go our separate ways. I feel like there's just too much baggage there. If it was casual, then we sometimes stay friends.

I've never stayed friends with any of my ex girlfriends. It's always been mutual that we move on to other things. There was a few that I wanted in my life, but they didn't feel the same way. The only reason why I have anything do with my ex wife is because of the custody arrangement we have. I don't have a choice on that right now until the kids get old enough to be on their own.

I've stayed friends with only one ex, a girl I dated for some of high school and uni. We message occasionally, but we're different people now. We're not that close.

The rest I'm either not in contact with or would actively try to avoid because they're awful people.

i’m the odd one out here lol…out of the five people in my wedding party, three of them are exes i mentioned this fact to one of my students earlier this school year and she was like “that’s lesbian behavior” LMAO

i will say that the longer you date the more time and space you need before being able to comfortably remain friends. one of my closest friends now is someone i dated for 7 years right before transitioning. we needed a couple years before it didn’t give me a panic attack to message her

also, since this is usually a factor too, open and honest communication is always the way to go. my fiancée loves like all of my exes (at least the ones i still talk to. they weren’t all winners)

I've only really been in one serious relationship, and that's the girl I eventually married and had three kids with. Even though we're divorced now she is still one of my closest friends, and we see each other a couple of times a week. We have a pretty unusual relationship for being divorced.

Oh, forgot to mention that she's remarried and I'm friends with her new husband too.

I wanna say it depends on who is considered an "ex."

Like does my 8th grade boyfriend count? Because he hugged me ONCE we follow each other on IG but that's about it

I think that's really the only ex I'm friends with (if that counts as a friendship).

I will say that I don't really "believe" exes can be friends after the fact but that's also dependent on the relationship and how it ended. I've seen exes stay friends just fine.
