James Acaster is from my home town, though 2 years older than me and went to a different secondary school so I don't recall ever running into him.

Said hometown started to see settlers around 700 BC, and was conquered by the Romans around 43 CE, so it's got some history.

Technically he's from Burnley right up t'road, but Sir Ian MacKellan is a noted Boltonian. Educated at the Bolton School. Also plenty of footballers, Amir Kahn, Peter Kay...

I saw Acaster live when he was first finding his fame. He was good even back then.

All his jokes about Wicksteed Park are nostalgic for me since I spent a lot of time there avoiding peacocks.

Also I made Isis walk through the muddy part of the park on the way to the cinema one time. The Brigette Isis, not the terrorist one.

The playground swing set was invented in Kettering, by Charles Wicksteed.

Obviously he didn't invent pendulum forces and swinging existed before hand, but the widely recognized equipment was his design.

No wonder they named the park after him.
Pretty sure it's where his estate was, and they just filled it with playground stuff. Dunno if it was before or after his death, but it's was pretty legit to grow up next to.

I get why Acaster talks about it so much.

Weird, I just saw this posted on r/casualUK

I haven't thought about Kettering as much as I have today in probably the last 20 years.

EDIT: Also unfortunate name. Musk is always on a Kett-fest lately.

This song is about the neighborhood I spent the first decade of my life in:

I always thought it was wild that a popular (albeit, local) band wrote a song about the little neighborhood that I came from that's less than a half of a square mile in size.

Here's the block I grew up on:

When the crack and heroin epidemic took hold of that area, we moved a little over a mile south down Washington Boulevard, the original route that connected Baltimore to DC.

In between those two neighborhoods, we had this building:

As kids, the place was condemned, so we used to break in and play hide and seek in it. It was kinda creepy, some spots still had merchandise from the 70's and 80's in it, and others were obviously used as encampments for the homeless.

We also use to "borrow" golf carts from the neighboring (and extremely out of place) golf course to reenact CKY/Jackass bits with.

It may not be the epitome of "cultural treasure", but, we made the best out of our environment back then. I have a lot of good memories from the bad side of the tracks with what were good friends back in those days.

Ramsay Street!

The more notable one is South Carey Street around the corner. The sign used to read "S Carey" until gentrification took hold in the early 00's and it was renamed "So. Carey" to fit the "SoWeBo" trend that every developer was jumping on back then.

...I guess you can't sell rowhomes for half a million if everyone calls the street "Scary Street", which was absolutely an earned reputation.

That's me getting caught by Street View. I do remember the moment actually.

My dude, that absolutely looks like a photo taken by a private investigator to ascertain what type of packages you were transporting.

My thing is, he isn't there on either before or after frame... Just that one peeking out the gate.

Where did you come from, where did you go? Where did you come from, dimmer wi[t] Toh (Yi Rd).

...I'll workshop the end there.

The camera car came up the whole street, pulled a u-turn at the top and then came back down. My guess is that it took most of the pictures from the bit where it was coming back down the street and I was already evading surveillance through my gate.
Bollocks, you hopped into the wheelie bin and I'll hear no other explanation.
