I haven't played much since getting into act 3. I'm getting destroyed in most of the side quest areas. Kind of killing my urge to play.

I might just go forth and finish the story next time I sit down with it.
I highly recommend increasing Maelle's relationship level and completing her personal quest, which will take you to a dungeon called The Reacher. This really should have been mandatory story IMO. This will also level you up a bit so you can do more side questing if you wish, but I wouldn't put off the final story area too long.

Starting to finally explore and do side quests. I was a little intimidated by the world, things arent marked well on the map, but I thought each place I could enter was a huge dungeon, nope a lot are small and single screens, I have settled on a party of the three ladies and they work well to boost powerhouse Maelle

Thanks for the advice. I did all the characters today and the Maelle one was helpful. I could not dodge or parry the final boss there at all. Actually had to go to story mode to beat it after four attempts.

I agree, it should be a main story area.

Im still bad at this, Im too impatient, wasnt much of an issue but end of Act II and the enemies are hitting so much harder now
Yeah it hasn't really been a problem for me so far, so long as I stay away from those extra strong things that can kill me in a single hit. I'm slowly getting better at dodging but I'm still not reliable enough to attempt parrying in most cases. It sure is satisfying to parry an attack on the entire party and have everybody get a counter attack when I manage to pull it off, though!

I also think there is a swish sound you hear when you're supposed to hit parry, problem is Im typically playing with bluetooth ear buds in so I think there is a slight delay there. I usually play when others are asleep and I dont want to miss out on this awesome soundtrack by having the volume low

Im connected to my tv, wonder if would it be better if I connected to the pc instead

The sound definitely helps a lot. I couldn't figure it out at all until I realized there was a noise signaling the timing.

Could you maybe use wired earbuds? That might have less of a delay.

The variety of enemy isn't too much so at some point regular encounters become easily parry-able. Problem is the bosses do not get easier.
Funny, I think the bosses are easier because the fight is longer so it's easier to get into the rhythm of it.

I found the picto which gives you AP for getting hit! It's been very helpful

As you keep playing you'll see repeat versions of those enemies scaled up a bit. So timing gets easier in general. The one thing that I started paying attention to more is the sound, most attacks have a rhythm.

Except for the chevalier type enemies. I can't time them at all, so when I am around them I add that pictos just to give me more AP.

Pretty sure Im near the end of Act II, got my ass kicked by the boss, I did get close to beating them stupid fucking ability to completely heal itself.
Renoir a second time
, I could he wrong about it being near the end but no idea

I had trouble with that fight, too. The attacks were so hard to time so I took a lot of damage. The next boss I would have died had my backup team not gotten lucky with a gradient attack and stacked foretell.

But yes, you are correct on where you are in Act 2. Enjoy what is coming.

Yeah the timing has hurt me, only trying to dodge and I'm getting smacked, gonna grind a little

I have not read this thread yet, because I'm only maybe halfway through this game and I am avoiding spoilers, but I found this video about the development of Expedition 33 and it's made me love it even more. And I want more from this developer! I'm so glad they made it and want them to succeed because they showed you don't need to be a money grubbing AAA publisher to make a game of the year, which this should be a front runner on as of now.

Okay I just cracked 1.5M in damage in one hit with Maelle, I think it's time to beat the game now lol.

I'm probably severely over-leveled but oh well, I got into a groove taking down optional enemies and clearing areas. All characters are between 66-71.

Shit Im high 40s and sturggled with that boss fight, still havent gone back to try and beat him, I think its more on me and being able to not dodge well enough. May actually bring in some healing options

Just beat the game, yes it was a cake walk but I enjoyed rampaging through the final dungeon this way because of how it plays out. I felt like an unstoppable force.

The ending was fantastic. So well done. Might be recency bias but I haven't felt this strongly about an RPG since the Witcher 3. It feels like a game made just for me. It is serious but silly when it can be.

Play time was 42 hours.

I beat it like a week ago and still can't stop thinking about it

It's been 4 days and I'm still thinking about it. My algorithms keep giving me more E33 content which helps but man I'm still not sure how I feel about my ending...

I just found the soundtrack on Spotify and it hits so hard. The composer is so damn good at mixing styles but keeping it all reigned in.

Finished Act 2 and all I can say is fuck the final boss of this act

Came back and mopped the floor with Renoir, fuck the paintress though. I hate when games have back to back fights without giving you full heal, and I was doing okay until that mother fucker cast Curse. I did end up winning but barely. Two party members were down and was hoping Lune could survive long enough before curse took her out again. Hooray burn. But damn paintress healed so much with one of her attacks as well which annoyed the piss out of me. I did beat her on my first attempt, but it was tense and way too close for comfort, had to use a lot of heal and revive tints

Story theories that may be right but in a wrong/adjacent kind of way? I need to rewatch the ending scenes of Act 2 as my tired brain did not fully take it in, but here is what I have been thinking most game

First thing that popped in my head when we met Renoir the first time, he looked a lot like Gustav. I have been too afraid to look up their pictures online for fear of spoilers, but my first theory was they are the same person, but Gustav from the futre. Maelle also looks a lot like the burned girl. Even commented about before the paintress boss. One place we visit in Act 2 looked a lot like part of Lumiere at the start of the game. We could be dealing with alt timeline/time travel or even something similar to
Zanarkland and Tidus in FFX

I bought and started this last night. Right at the start of Act I. Enjoying it already.

For those who have gone after the achievements, I suspect I'll want to go for them. Do I need multiple playthroughs or can I do them in one? If so, is there anything missable that I can be told about without spoilers? I want to just enjoy the game, but if I can save myself a big chunk of hours without spoiling anything I'm happy to do that too.

I think there is one about killing certain Gestrals who dont attack you so watch out for that

I didn't like the direction of the story for Act 3. There was a lot of things that got set up that I was intrigued by. Without spoiling, there's a certain type of story direction I've grown to dislike, and this game has it.

Kind of reminds me of FFXIII @The Eye in the Sky! - really cool premise but then needs to tie it all together in the end.

Again just watching the game as a let's play. I bet the gameplay is fun. I also need to watch some sort of lore video because there are some threads I don't understand fully.

You can get them all in one run, assuming you didn't miss the Mime in the Prologue like I did
I must have missed this too. But if it's in the Prologue that's presumably not difficult to go back and get.

Just looked up a guide to this, and I saw the stage but didn't go to the right. That's not a problem. I can just start a new save and get that pretty easily.

Anyway, newbie question. Equipping pictos means that the character learns luminas, which you then activate with lumina points. I've read that the luminas can then be used by all party members. So, two questions.
i) Are the lumina points exhausted after you use them, or can you switch those abilities in and out at will?
ii) What's the benefit to equipping pictos once a character learns the lumina? The game said that some pictos affect stats but I don't think I have any of those yet. Is it just the stat benefits?

Act 3 is the only bit of the game I wish they would have taken another run at, from a gameplay standpoint.

There's a lot of really cool lore stuff that I feel should have been mandatory story missions, including one dungeon that I HIGHLY recommend people do before hitting the final boss.

Also there's one story beat that I was 100% expecting to be the whole driving force of Act 3...and then it was handled in a brief cutscene.

But as for the actual STORY I absolutely love it 10/10 no notes, so I'm very curious as to your concerns with it.
