Hmm. It's been a long time since I've poked around the Chess Room. I've been antsy to jump back in and have even considered erasing my save and started over, though to lose all that progress and start over would be brutal, even if it was expedited. Plus the trophies, I know 8 are required for one thing, but I'm unclear if all 16 do something in game as I haven't gotten to poke around yet.
Can't you at least play around Dare or Curse mode without issues? At least until a higher day count. Assuming you didn't beat both yet.

I had no idea the spare room had tiered upgrades, pleasant surprise. I currently have a Spare Master Bedroom, which is helpful for experiments because steps themselves aren't really critical at this stage.
For sure. I ended up with Spare Veranda, but there was also a spare Terrace and Patio. I do think my spare Green Room had better items in it most of the time which is kind of annoying right now. I constant found the broken lever or watering can there and occasionally a shovel. As much as I love everything green rooms, I'd probably now pick a spare hallway.

For the others: 2gem Storeroom, 2key Parlor, key Hallway, Guess Bedroom (omg I hate this one), 2dice Boudoir, Cloister of Lydia, Starfish Aquarium, Bedroom Closet, 2key Nook, No Contact Mail Room, Corriyard, gem Bunk Room, Speakeasy, Indoor Nursery.
You're missing on thanks to the Breakfast Nook. The free eggs and sausage every day to get the Morning Room added is very nice. The Morning Room is probably my favorite room. The effects are great and it almost always has 1 item in it too.

@TD how big is your save file? Are you using the stock drive? I'm thinking that I could get back into this for a bit if I know my save file is smaller than yours, especially if I move it over to the faster SSD (which should mean it can handle a bigger file size before it runs into the problem they described).

So the save bug affects all slots once you've been affected... but...

You've actually given me an idea with this. I have beat Dare and Curse, but since I did the backup, my overall save isn't corrupted. Which means I could in theory use slot 2 for another Bequest mode slot without erasing my main run. I'd have to redo all the permanent stuff, but I know puzzle solutions and such so it should be expedited. SD might be a pain but I actually think I might do just that and scratch the itch that way. Plus I can focus, maybe even rechoose my upgrades in the new slot instead of trying to reroll...

Yeah, I'm doing it.

So I've only ever drafted it after I can from the Kitchen meal, but I think I'll do just that in my new run.

So my save is 47.45MB and stock drive. It seems to affect everyone regardless, and all save files are the same size.

That said, if you're staying below Day 100, you should be fine.

Oh, I thought the explanation you posted said save files got so big they took too long to save, and that caused the problem.
It definitely sounds like that with the way it's worded, but it's more how the game's internal save engine interacts with the compressed nature of PS5 files from what I understand as all players have the same file size.

In other news. New save is underway after an hour. Room 46 done, 3 permanent additions, 7 upgrades. Trickier stuff comes next, that won't be nearly as quick.

I did like 3 runs of curse mode for the fun of it. I was very amused by the orchard. Did get the gem mine open day 1.

Day 2 I started with 3 steps. That was uhhh... interesting. I did get fairly far, but couldn't make anything meaningful out of it.

Later I'll get back to my main one and continue working on the tunnel. That and reclaim what is rightfully mine. As long as the rooms pop up that is.

I've been dodging this thread since restarting with my wife cause I'm liable to read spoilers and the point of the game is to not be spoiled really.

I think I must be nearing the actual end. The puzzle that probably gave me the most trouble is
working out about getting the treasure trove outside.
I did the same thing as I did for ever other puzzle I didn't know what to do for - slowed down, thought about it again from the simplest angle, consider everything in the box, then rinse repeat. That works super well for everything, but for this problem, I had a lot more reading to do. It was easy to work out the problem itself, but then HOW to do it look me over an hour of going back through the many many images we had taken. Then much longer to work out
the right amount of coins... Luckily it was one of my lucky numbers. @TD was there a way for me to know the costs for the blessings? I swear my wife and I must've recorded just about everything and I didn't spot it.

Took me a bit to remember that hey, that thing is connected to the other to do that. I'm basically at that point myself atm. Now I just got to get my rooms to align.

After multiple weeks of slowly working on it bit by bit every day or every other day, you do end up forgetting relevant info. The notes I have are good, but those are mainly notes related to existing puzzles that I know are relevant. What about some little note or picture here or there that I saw? Looked cute. Forgot it existed, until later I realize I need that. Where was it again? What did it say?

right amount of coins
I had a short list going with that. I had just enough going to use it for myself, but not enough to pick up a pattern.

I'd love to see one note mentioning it, really haven't seen a thing. I had only had it twice before, where I got
berries for max
, and something else for a small amount that wasn't the one we wanted. My wife had had the same experience and obvs more coins is longer... so we just test a bit with lower numbers... And as I say, lucky number. We are going to actually follow through with this part when she gets home so hopefully I'm not out of my mind haha.

I've been lucky that my wife, who is beyond in love with this game but not so hot on connecting thin air together like I like to, has done so much of the grunt work and recording of huge amounts of info. She's been having fun doing the sigils and all that.

Oh no. I don't think I had seen notes pertaining to what gets what. I meant I had started making my own notes.

My own note ramble in the middle there was just in general trying to figure out what to do and forgetting important things when I didn't think they were important.

I take screenshots of everything. They're really annoying to look through, but I've been grateful for it several times.

I was going to do that, but I thought the exact same thing. Managing an awful number of screenshots would be horrible. Only a couple specific times I've done a screenshot or two since they were much more convenient that way.

my wife goes up to the tv and takes a photo. we have a shared drive.

i've put some of my real life friends onto this game, and what i said to them was. i wish i could go back in time and make on of those investigation boards like

Always Sunny Reaction GIF

because even though i'm horrible at that sorta arts and crafts, i think it'd actually work really well here, but also be a really fun family activity. my daughter will watch us play, and draw us clues.

which reminds me, i've been playing a lot, and thinking about the game a lot. i would be at the rugby and see the bar staff have numbers on their hands and i'd quickly memorise them for later

treasure trove
I haven't completed this one in full yet but I'll be doing it once I get my new save up to speed. Did you complete this one in full yet? It feels like the most complicated puzzle in the game.

Specifically like a list? No. However, there is a book available that mentions all of the ones available and a hint to figure out the proper donation amounts - that said, there are mentions somewhere of math and patterns.

Maybe mechanically the most complicated, but the hints and clues for it are mostly straight forward. Well, I haven't done everything yet so maybe there's another twist?

I guess personally I have to say the one I cheated on was harder but that is probably just because it was a bad match for my brain. The other chess one can probably be rough too now that I think about it.

So I'm "only" on Day 30 and my new save slot might actually be better than my prior slot, the existing knowledge going in helps a lot. Haven't touched the realm sigils yet, but I found a bit of a loophole when it comes to allowance which helped.
:giggle

Also better upgrades in place. The Morning Room is a game changer.

I haven't completed it in full but I'm moving forward pretty fine.
Finding the blessings page was basically me solving the puzzle,
then it was just effort from there. Everything else I went fine for - not instantly solving but just my problem solving process that I employ at work served me really well to get on top of anything. And with the great notes my wife especially would keep, it wasn't too hard. We are also two people, who don't have similar brainwaves (for lack of a better word), so we are a good team for this.

I'm still looking for that fucken vault key though but that's just luck I'm assuming... Or I'm hoping.

This one was a pain for me too. This seems like a rare item, that said - it seems to only appear places where you can get rare items.
Yeah I've been assuming that too. We've been putting the jack hammer in the coat check and I haven't seen the lucky rabbits foot in a minute... But we're just doing that and hoping to get it along the way while we do other stuff.

I also haven't
translated our Nana's note from the tomb yet.
I just can't be fucked yet and I'm often not in the state of mind for that type of concentration when I get to playing the game. It's going to have to be a job for the weekend in the morning.

I managed to get my last key! It was as annoying to get as I thought it was. Amusingly though, you can also just accidentally get it. But whatever. I got my trophy for doing all 8 sigils.

Next up is the same thing Benzine is working on. I got a good plan on how to kind of force it to happen. Surprisingly annoying though if you just try to wing it.

Same on the haven't.

- I did the thing in the chess room that it tells you to do and um, interesting.
- I too am working on the same thing as you two now.
- I cleared the tunnel.
- I am working on the whole reclaiming thing.
- I have done things with water.
- I got to 100 stars, also interesting.

oooh i haven't got to 100 stars, i keep spending them all. my wife spent like 40 in one fkn run to no avail too.

it took me a moment to realise it wanted me to do the chess thing... but because i was solving the rest of the puzzle for it so well, i was saying "where tf am i meant to solve this?", then applied the problem solving mantra, and then got it basically straight away. getting the pieces to pull it off was actually tough, but just takes time - we didn't realise the rules for getting certain rooms at this point.

I'm at 105 stars. It's getting better. You'll realize whats happening as you do another star. Keep your stars benzine. Idk what the pay off is yet but it seems like it might be good.

I'm still in the tunnel. I accidentally managed to undo a step which prevented me from doing the next. That was annoying.

I wonder if you can all the water?

Speaking of stars, all the water, the tunnel, and all that. There's a certain configuration that basically lets you run an experiment infinite times. This was crucial to getting my save back on track. And getting my allowance to over 400.

... I'd have to double check the list, but I think I know how you did it, since you said it. Maybe I'll abuse it for dare or curse mode.

I ran into some trouble a few days ago. It's potentially a game ending run for me...

Yes I know you may read that and think, what are you talking about Rachel. This game doesn't have anything that will block you from continuing.

Well, here's what happened. I finally got the pump room again. I wanted to access the secret cave thing in the reservoir.

It took me forever to figure out how to get the reservoir level down to the exact level I need to make this happen (I had to look this up, I'm not sure if the game somehow tells you exactly which level you need to access to secret area).

Anyway...I eventually do that and then go back to the reservoir.

The boat was on the wrong side. I just stared at it for awhile.

I now have to go back to the pump room, fill it to the correct level, go BACK to the reservoir, move the boat to the other side, go BACK to the pump room, change the water level again, and return to the correct side of the reservoir.

This is EXACTLY what I meant when I was questioning earlier if the game respects your time in the next phases of the game.

I haven't touched it in days. I'm too demoralized. If you are able to cross the reservoir once, there should be a shortcut so you don't need to deal with this again.

So yeah. I don't know what to do, what I want to do.

Yeaaaaaaaaa.... that annoyed the hell out of me too @Rachel . And I knew I had to do all that since I had scouted it out previously. But nope. Left it there.

And yes. The game does mention the levels somewhere that escapes me now.

Whether this helps curb your frustration or not, the stuff in that area won't stop you from advancing until a decent bit further. Will be needed though eventually.

what is the shortcut, please just tell me ;___;
i haven't read the thread so am not up to date with what you've done. i'll post the specific (how i remember it answer) and then also a very general clue after

do you have the foundation, have you gone down the lift, and got in with the basement key? there's a book case. looking directly at it, to the left of that and up there's actually a button on the wall. you need to move the trolly things to help make a path to walk on top of everything. i do not remember if you needed to put power into that red box in the boiler to make this work but i think i did have it on at the time when i worked this out finally, so just in case.

in the basement, there's an angel statue. in rooms with angel statues, there's stuff to do, i believe.

Oh. I already did all of that. I don't think any of that helps me with my current predicament. The water level is not correct for me to fix the boat. To access the other thing. I don't need to access the part you are talking about. I think, if I understood what you are saying.

I think the easiest way to help you would be to ask what you've done down in the basement areas first, since.... There's a lot. Some of it seems redundant also, but maybe was thrown in there for folks who want to speedrun or try to get the day 1 achievements, I think.

But yeah. We can point you one way if we know roughly where you're at with discovering things there.

for the red letter up here as well, what was the clue for the lock? or were we just meant to guess it based on the structure? (which is what we did)
I think so. That's how I did it. Obvious outlier and then "brute force" the rest. Maybe there was a hint somewhere as well for it, but I can't remember. Too many dates everywhere in that game. Most clues were always just in the same room or area.

You're right. I'm sorry. I'm just frustrated.

I've gotten room 46 and I have a few of those eight keys and have done those doors. I did the power hammer in the basement. I also moved the trolleys around in the basement and did the path where you walk on the boxes to reveal the bookcase.

So, yeah. I still have to go back to the pump room from the other side of the reservoir. I still have to fix that water so I can reach the boat, then return, move the boat to the other side, go back to the pump room, and fix the water level again so I can go to the secret cave. Unless there is something I am missing.

No need to be sorry. We here like this game and are happy to help. We just need a bit of help from you to be able to help you back.

So you're basically in good spot. Just... gotta get the pump room to get down there to advance the plot later down the line. There are definitely neat things there to check out.

I would probably say the best way to advance for is to get to the bookstore and buy the books. One is very important. Should stand out just by the title. That'll be your ticket forward.

Other than that, getting your permanent upgrades. You should have three, yes? That's all you can get atm until after the bookstore.

And other than other than the above, there's many smaller things to do everywhere. I'll leave those be as you should discover many of them yourself.
