I failed my exam. :sadpanda Well, got a B-, but it's not an A for the trophy. Sigh.... Next time, I shall simply cheat. Heck learning and making notes.

In other news, I got my last room. Which means I managed to solve the things related to.... That and those. I'm kind of upset at the solution for one of the parts as it was simpler than I thought. I was thinking I had to do way more than I did and that there'd be something new. Nope.

So I got to 8 trophies which let me buy my blue tents from the shop. I ended up with like 700ish coins the day I bought it. A little bit of an overkill. I've been doing the thing with that and... The things are interesting, but not sure how they are useful at the moment.

The classroom I'll ignore for now, unless it pops up outside. Other than that, I might have to learn about the sigils as I got 3 of them to figure out. After that... I'm not sure. I don't know what else to do to advance the main puzzle stuff.

I have no shame in admitting that I cheated after failing three times. That trophy is one of the more annoying ones.

Oooh. I'm curious about the blue tents, I hadn't done that yet prior to my save getting buggered. I already did that one time thing for lots of gold when I bought out the showroom but it was also overkill by a few hundred. My allowance is almost 100 though because I converted something to allowance so once I can play again it shouldn't take too long.
After that... I'm not sure. I don't know what else to do to advance the main puzzle stuff.
Did you figure out the orchard yet?

Mine's only 68. I have a fairly fat treasure trove though. Also got a vault on that run and picked up all that with a purse. Casino was also around where I gambled for a moment. In the end, I also smashed a thing too to be sure I had enough. I actually didn't need to, but what else would I use coins for now? And I had a lab experiment that was giving me like 12 coins per security door open with the purse.

Did you figure out the orchard yet?
Nope. Though I have an idea. Similar deal to the Clock Tower?

My Trove is pretty big too, I think it was at like 120? So I'll either need a really lucky run or a Freezer to help me out, but at this rate really getting unsure when I'll get to try.

So there is something else similar to that, but it's not the Orchard.

So I've really had the itch to play - despite the save game bug. So I downloaded the save I had on the PS Cloud (I always do manual saves periodically). I lost 15 days on my main slot which stings a bit, but I wanted to try to get my final trophy again and make sure I didn't lose the progress.

1000005469.jpg

So I've obtained the Platinum and replaced my save on the cloud with this. I'll be back to the game now when the bug is fixed.

I still got all those trophies to go. I'll get to them eventually. Maybe.

Do you know if the 1h trophy is an game hour or getting to 46 on a new save?

It's a new save, not the sped up in game time, I actually got it at the same time I got the Dare mode trophy (by 1 minute).

If you ever do the Day One trophy it'll easily come with that, or it should. My Day One run took 35 minutes.

Hmm... maybe I'll give the day 1 a try. It's interesting to try to think through how the run goes when by the time you get below you have to redo everything there too. And no shortcuts.

Oh, I was reading some comments on reddit and someone had mentioned that there's even more star related things beyond what the book in the game shows and teases. Have you gotten that far yet?

It's easily the most challenging trophy in the game in my opinion, I think I spent 20+ hours on it, and there were so many close calls. Step management actually became a much bigger issue then you'd think, especially because you can't get any buffs from the permanent additions. It was a very strange combination of fun and annoying. I have a great handle on overall drafting strategy now though as I was pretty consistently getting to at least Rank 8 or so on Day One toward the end.

On the run I finally succeeded, I actually had all four chamber doors opened before getting to the antechamber itself.

I've gotten to 50 but that's mentioned somewhere. I haven't uncovered anything else but now you have my attention. I'll have some catching up to do with the stars, though. Especially since I swapped them for allowance.

I was unable to get myself into this game, but really enjoyed watching streamers play it. I jumped back and forth between a few, but ultimately was able to see a good chunk among them all. I watched a lore video last night that explains everything and....god damn. I see why discoveries feel so rewarding in this game. I can't believe how deep it gets. Great lore.

I'm a bit gutted as I still got more to figure out as I want to watch one of those videos that compile it all into something more cohesive than what my brain has retained. I'm sure there's small bits and pieces here and there that I've missed that will blow my mind, but until I either get to a spot where I think I've completed enough of it or stop playing in general, I shouldn't watch one. And it sucks lol.

That’s something I should try. I don’t have any modern systems and don’t have the time to devote to playing anything, but everyone in this thread has me super intrigued about this game.
Any videos you recommend @Tommy Boy ?

Any of the "[game name] gameplay no commentary" are great for the whole game all the way through without anyone talking, if that's what you're into. For this game specifically, I primarily watched a goofy streamer play it (Drae) so probably not a good recommendation because he is an acquired taste lol. For areas he missed or glazed over, I watched this video. It's broken up into chapters so it's 10 hours long but easy to remember where you left off.

For the lore overview video, I watched rkadindoubt's take on it, which was about 15 mins long and entirely spoiler based - doesn't really go over the gameplay at all. Just explained what the game is, its setting, the history behind it, the current timeline, and the results of the player character's experience.

PS5 save big is not fixed but they have provided an update:

**# PS5 SAVE ROLLBACK ISSUE UPDATE**

Hi @everyone,

We have an update about the PS5 Save Rollback Issue to share with you all.

Our team have been working with Sony to try to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We believe we have now discovered the cause of this problem. It's a bit technical but essentially a duplication of save data was interrupting the creation of new save information. PlayStation has stricter rules of when you're allowed to handle save data, and if a save is still in progress or hasn't been closed it will automatically stop any subsequent calls. The more data that was in a user's Blue Prince save file, the more likely this interruption was to occur.

We have now moved into a testing phase and we hope to have a fix for this as soon as possible. It is hard for us to give an exact timeline at this point, as we want to tread carefully to ensure that any fix we implement resolves this issue and that no saves for existing players are lost.

We want to thank you for your patience while we have worked towards a solution and for providing save files that have really helped the team investigate in more detail.

I was thinking about checking this out on gamepass, my laptop should be able to run it okay, but I watched a review and found out this is kind of a rogue like puzzle game with some deck building? I dont like rogue likes or deck building games so while I could maybe get into it, it doesn't appeal to what i want which is just a straight forward puzzle game. Perhaps it wouldnt be a problem, and maybe I'll check it out one day, probably will check out Pentiment instead on my laptop.

Agree with TD. I love deck building games, this is barely one.

It's puzzle heavy though, and if you like puzzles, it may win out.

I didn't play for quite a bit after initially posting the thread. I decided quite early on that my wife would actually love playing this and we could play together - and I was right. We started again and I let her play the first 10 days or whatever without me, then I joined back in. We've been having a blast.

I don't like rogue likes or deck building either (I'm not sure what part of Blue Prince involves deck building though), and I really enjoyed this. It took me a few runs to figure out enough things for it to be interesting.

I do agree with shortkut that it has Myst vibes.

My guess is the planning your runs is what they were trying to compare to deck building ? Seems like you can change or influence the type of rooms that show up?

That’s not really deck building though so much as playing your cards and items at some point.

For the most part, the deck building aspect as I see it is that you… have a deck.

Either way the roguelike is what really makes me not interested in seeing people get frustrated that they know the answer but they can't solve it that day, I can see the appeal to this game though

A deckbuilding roguelike is like Slay the Spire (which fwiw is phenomenal if you actually want a deckbuilding roguelike). This honestly just isn't a deckbuilder and it's an unjust comparison (to both Blue Prince and deckbuilders).

shortkut mentioned Myst and while I've never played it, Kat seems to agree and I've seen that comparison a lot.

Honestly? It's one of those things that you just kind of have to try and see if it's for you. I would say give it until Day 4-5, and if it doesn't resonate for you by then, it's not for you. I know of people who hate roguelikes but loved this.

I'll also added that watching people play this does not capture the experience at all.
Either way the roguelike is what really makes me not interested in seeing people get frustrated that they know the answer but they can't solve it that day
I've seen this complaint come up a lot and it truly shouldn't be an issue until the late-late game when you've already solved most puzzles. There are 100s of puzzles to solve in this game and while it's true you can get stuck in this situation - it seems to be when people are fixating on trying to solve a certain puzzle going into a given Day, where really, you have to see what the Day brings and which puzzles you can solve that Day.

I'd also say that every time I set my mind to solving a puzzle i realized I knew the solution to, I was almost always able to do it that day. The only exceptions were things that required a specific rare room, or if it required multiple steps and I didn't get them all in the same day (and even that was generally because I fucked up somehow). I can't recall any times where I completely knew a solution to a puzzle and spent several days unable to implement it. More commonly, I'd just know some room existed and was likely useful, but had never seen it. But there are a lot of rooms and always new things to do, so it wasn't a big deal.

Is similar in that there are many puzzles you need to figure out to progress, and often the solution isn't really obvious. IIRC there is less "hunt down information to help you with the puzzle" though, which is a lot of what Blue Prince is. It's been a long, long time since I played Myst though.

Blue Prince is not generally about "I need to get this specific room to progress". It's more "I need to gather information and learn things to progress". To me, it feels like a mental jigsaw puzzle where you have to find the pieces.

I mean it's one dude's opinion on an obscure subreddit. The game ain't for everyone and that's fine. But it really reads as someone who doesn't understand the mechanics of the game more than anything, room drafting is a big part of the puzzle, like a literal puzzle with pieces you buy. The game has gotten a lot of attention (good and bad) because of the rave reviews and being "free" on PS Plus and Gamepass.

...it's still not a deckbuilder, though.

There's really very minimal of what could be considered deck building. Unlocking and adding permanent rooms or upgrading them isn't really deck building yet. At best, any time you can choose to add or remove rooms temporarily is the closest it gets. But beyond that, being able to adjust rarer rooms to appear is more valuable 99 times out of 100.

I can understand why people would call it a deck builder, but that's a disservice to fully fledged deck builders.

That is all of reddit, people bitching about the things they like. I have been a user for probably around 8 years now, and I have gone through full cycles of following a community, getting involved, and then leaving. It's so negative all the time. I can't stand my favorite band's subreddit, it's filled with constant diary posts about how everyone needs to love the new singer and can't miss the one that got kicked out. Anything fallout related? Get ready to deep throat New Vegas until you choke. Any TV show I like? Trash! Want to post about local NYC stuff? The mods might as well be NY Post moderators! It's all real bad, especially since the CEO came down on all the third party apps and API access stuff.

I have since learned that most people come to the internet to complain, not to praise. Praise feels manufactured and sponsored now, complaining seems endless and lacks any nuance. Have to pick a side for everything. I still use reddit daily, but I know what to avoid. At least here, it's fucking normal. That's why I gladly pay for this community to stay alive. It's one of my personal last bastions of sanity on the internet.

I got very, very pissed because I reached Room 46 and then a cutscene and then they rolled credits. Immediate end day when I had more stuff I wanted to do. What the HELL. Couldn't even explore the fucking room!!!!

I also thought I needed to drain the reservoir to reach Room 46. I got one of the eight keys before I reached Room 46 -__- (maybe this is common, there is a huge lake and it looks like the answer is on the other side)

Yeah, that annoyed the heck out of me too the first time. Like what the hell game ?! Ah well.

As for the second thing, I don't think that's common. I haven't heard of it though, although as you can attest yourself it's perfectly possible to get one or quite a few of them.

I wanted to quit the game many many times because I could NOT proc the boiler room with the pump room. Yes I know about the ducts. Yes I know about the wrench. Yes I know about that other item. Nothing helped me. RNG was awful. One time I FINALLY got them right next to each other, only to realize one was "behind" the other and the duct didn't feed into that direction

Edit: I saw you playing it Kat lol

For folks struggling with the boiler room, did you know... (very helpful mechanic to manipulate what appears next to Boiler Room).

That if you run the power to the door and then draft, it guarantees power/vent eligible rooms to appear? And then any room drafted from there continues the chain, this is how I eventually got all the combos when I figured it out.

Not my image but this is what it does:

It didnt seem like too much bitching at least in this thread. It is definitely a small subreddit, but plenty of people in there talked about it, the good and the not so good. Not just one dude. If they were way off it would be downvoted to oblivion. Most of the critiques seemed fine and not just this game sucks (in that thread), but gave a reason, but plenty of people who liked it too

Honestly the smaller the sub possibly better, usually the bigger the sub the worse it gets

It helps but only somewhat. Some red rooms can ruin your run if you don't have those protections, and unfortunately those are some of the helpful rooms here. I'm pretty sure I also ran into some keycard trouble at times.

I need to figure out a list of the other rooms it affects. I did the Furnace I think. Haven't done the Laundry room, maybe also the Freezer? Did the lab.

I am a little worried about late game RNG. The big question is, will the game respect my time.

I also haven't been paying much attention to the actual backstory threads the game is presenting. I will probably need to watch a lore video that explains all of it. Also I am not a fan of how the room 46 story goal does not mesh with the gameplay, meaning Simon continues to act like he is not the master of the estate, I still have allowance, still camps outside, etc. Yes I understand why from the gameplay perspective. But it's disjointed from the story.

I almost wonder if what's happening there is the norm for the estate. A weird goofy house that you have to populate every day with the resources you have. It makes some sense that you don't see the maids, since I believe I had heard/read at some point that "you don't see good maids" as in they do all their work without you even knowing it. The dinner bell rings whenever you step into rank 8. Every day the rooms are restocked and whatever. Though I do understand the point as some things still don't get unlocked for you afterwards that you probably should have access to.

Speaking of the game, I ended up caving in and got a hint for one of the puzzles. For the one in the garden @TD . Even though, in hindsight, the clues were RIGHT FREAKING THERE, and I had already solved half of it without knowing, I was oblivious to the main thing about it. I do feel dumb now, but also I wouldn't have been good with that kind of puzzle anyhow. That's my reasoning for it. Yup.

So now to do what happens next which I already figured out.
Edit: Holy crap, I underestimated how much of it I have to do. Ah well.

Still need my upgrade disk from the tomb.

And to get more stars. Sigh.

RE: The story and lore.

I don't think it is intended to be the focal point of the game and not it's strength, though it does exist and is kinda interesting. That said, a lot of the things mentioned here are explained through in game methods such as letters and emails.

Mild "story/lore" spoiler: at one point the staff even writes that Simon has been taking too long at the mansion and about him stealing their money. They even spoil some puzzles to rebel, it's rather amusing, and then Mrs. Babbage becomes furious.
It helps but only somewhat. Some red rooms can ruin your run if you don't have those protections, and unfortunately those are some of the helpful rooms here.
So it's also worth noting that with what I mentioned, you create a chain effect with the "buff", and the only types of rooms that can help with this are red, mechanical, and some hallways. I ultimately ended up with a run where my focus was providing power to all eligible rooms by using this trick and chaining together about a dozen powered rooms.

In terms of what rooms you can apply it to, the Library is a good start for information.
I am a little worried about late game RNG. The big question is, will the game respect my time.
Before the save bug hit me I was at 90 something hours and I had minimal frustration with late game RNG, personally.

That said, saw this and it feels appropriate:

IN:RE the above spoiler: I actually got letters that were encouraging and supporting of me doing a good job. Then again, I got mine mostly from lab experiments. Seems like there's alternative ones of those too lol. My row of letters is filled on the bottom in the mailroom with the last one leaning against the wall.

Happy to hear you got that one taken care of! It really opens things up for you in a lot of ways...
Oh yeah. I did start on that. You could see the list of things related to it so it was kind of obvious on what to aim for next lol. I also like the other new things a lot more than the old ones in general.

Also, how many of y'all have been using the Shelter for it's other main benefit?

...... my mind is blown on how much more they have put into the dartboard puzzle. They just added yet another rule into it for me. I now got X's to worry about.

It's been another one of those days where things slowly fall into place. At least more clues and whatnot.

In the chess room I did a second thing from a total of three, I think? I'm unsure of the writing on the wall, but I did the special thing there. The next clue after, I believe I understood, and now need to make the stars align for. Sigh.

Speaking of a random thing, thanks to the SD, I love the little additions. Things like that make the game more fun.

I also like the other new things a lot more than the old ones in general.
It's nice, eh? Let's you do the thing with a lot more frequency run generally speaking, and the SD has are very interesting. Really uncorks some things.

Are you referring to the Radiation protocol? If so, I did it twice. It's super useful but since I have the Master Key in Coat Check, it doesn't really get used anymore. Plus I never draft the Shelter anymore because I've cycled out all red rooms but the Darkroom, though I could access it the other way if I wanted to.
In the chess room
Are you referring to the smashy smashy? If so, I did that. I think I know what it's alluding to given the room the hint is in, but I have to wait before trying it unfortunately.

I'm very happy I eventually upgraded it to the Speakeasy (turns it into one basic math problem then it unlocks) because it started to get a little nutty for the potential reward. Learning those new changes are fun, though.

Yeeeh. It's very nice. It might be easier to do it now, but some of the original things to do were enough to do it.

Nope. Not that. There's something else there as well apparently. There was one hint somewhere random and then there was a blue note that I picked up that kind of spelled it out. There's a third hint too, but I can't talk about that.

I upgraded mine into the Break Room for exactly because calling it a day there gives you the keycard the next day. So nice.

Speaking of upgrading, I realized how insane the Spare Room upgrades are.

And more on upgrades, what did y'all pick so far? I got a Breakfast Nook, Eel Aquarium, Break Room, Spare Green Room, Bedroom Closet, Indoor Nursery, Bunk Room, Hallway with Key, always open Corridor, Cloister of Rynna, always open Corriyard, and... maybe that was it? Should be.

I just started a day with 45 steps! Amazing lmao! And a die. Who woulda thunk.

........ well, thinking back, they do reference this and why wouldn't this game make true with seemingly random things it says.

Hmm. It's been a long time since I've poked around the Chess Room. I've been antsy to jump back in and have even considered erasing my save and started over, though to lose all that progress and start over would be brutal, even if it was expedited. Plus the trophies, I know 8 are required for one thing, but I'm unclear if all 16 do something in game as I haven't gotten to poke around yet.

I had no idea the spare room had tiered upgrades, pleasant surprise. I currently have a Spare Master Bedroom, which is helpful for experiments because steps themselves aren't really critical at this stage.

For the others: 2gem Storeroom, 2key Parlor, key Hallway, Guess Bedroom (omg I hate this one), 2dice Boudoir, Cloister of Lydia, Starfish Aquarium, Bedroom Closet, 2key Nook, No Contact Mail Room, Corriyard, gem Bunk Room, Speakeasy, Indoor Nursery.
