Anyone making resolutions for 2024?

My main resolution is going to be a greater focus on self care and less time appeasing others.

This is not to say I'm going to become a selfish asshole, but in going through therapy I've come to the realization that I nearly always put others before myself and I need to work on that - so that'll be my main focus for 2024.
...do we have the same therapist? lol, mine says the exact same thing about me.

I don't do New Years resolutions. If I was going to make a change, I wouldn't wait until New Years to start.

Less scrolling. I've deleted most social apps but I still scroll Twitter a bit too much.
I've only touch Twitter when a post is linked from Reddit.

I've stopped using FB for a while now.

Not going to commit to less scrolling though.

No resolutions for me. I can't even remember if I ever stuck with any of my resolutions from before.

If I did make one, I'd probably get overly stressed about it now as I tend to procrastinate a lot. Especially on things that aren't really time sensitive. So nope.

I've only made a New Years Resolution once, and that was in 2022. It was to get out of all debt (CC, phone contract, varies things on finance), excluding car payments and the mortgage. It never happened, so I'll not bother making another one:dance

I don't believe in "New Year" resolutions, but rather, "Whenever It Seems Appropriate" resolutions.

But anyway, my running resolution for the last year or 2 has been to "be more selfish". Like others above, I've put others before myself too much throughout my life, giving more than I get back, and sometimes choosing unfortunate people to give to who are completely self centered, and it's put me in a bad situation. It seems like the best thing I can do for everyone in the grander scheme at this point is to be more selfish so they don't have to take care of me in the end.

Also after a recent incident that's costing me more than $18,000 out of pocket (though so far I've raised about $6000 out of the immense generosity of friends) ironically I've decided the other day to stop saving money. It was the saving of the money and delaying of gratification that put me in this situation, and now all the money I saved as a result has to be spent due to the bad situation created and I have a new serious chronic medical problem on top of it. So in the end the saving of the money made my life substantially worse. It seems like there's no point. I guess if I run out of money I'll just kill myself, because living like this is basically like being dead anyway.

So I guess, overall my "resolution" is to try doing the right thing less, as so far doing what is supposedly the right thing has made my life much worse overall.

I don't have the ability to save money. It isn't part of my personality. I try to make sure I always have £1000 available to me at any time, but sometimes it is just impossible.

When I am at a low point mentally, my coping mechanism is to overspend. Even with 20 years of therapy I can't see to get a handle on it.

Sometimes I think I would be better of dead - I too have chronic physical and mental medical conditions - but then I picture my children and those thoughts usually dissipate.

I guess my point is that you can live just fine without savings (please do not take this as advice, I would never advise somebody to live like I do) and that killing yourself isn't the solution to any problems, let alone any to do with money.

I dont really do them, mostly because if you need an arbitrary date to make you change something, it's less likely to stick than if you do it on your own when you realize you're ready to change something

Cant talk about too much on here, sorry friends, but just not gonna make any expectations for 2024. 2023 has been a wild year for me and I've grown so much, I might be due for big changes in my life this year, but Im just going to do what feels right, not rush and enjoy the ride

My autistic mind cannot make the correlation between your quotes and your meme. Sorry! 🤣🫣

Basically, a change of approach works wonders. Instead of looking at life as ā€œliving the dreamā€ sarcastically, the alternative is that you’re beyond your horror’s capabilities to destroy. Sounds much better that way. Apologies, I’m barely awake yet.

Very wise, Mark. Something we could all do with remembering I would guess!
