That's definitely an idea! I'd have to check with my branch manager. We have lots of LGBTQ-friendly books even in our Teens section, with relationships depicted on the covers which I often put on display. In fact, Kacen Callender on the one I just did is a trans author. There was a trans author on my Hispanic Month board too (Aiden Thomas). And I've been pleasantly surprised at the openness and acceptance of the trans community since I started working here. Several patrons and staff when I did my training at Main branch were openly trans and nobody blinked an eye. One teen patron introduced themselves to me and told me their pronouns and asked for mine.

Reason why I say I have to ask first though is because this state is also hella Trump territory. Just the other day we had a patron come in asking strange questions, and it turned out he was trying to find out if we were "pushing" LBGTQ stuff on young people. The person they talked to told them calmly that we don't dictate what patrons can check out, that Teens and Children can't check out R-rated movies but other than that we leave the discretion up to the parents. They seemed satisfied with that answer and left, but still feels a bit chilling.
Yeah, fair, I wouldn't want you to do something that would get you in trouble, but given that it is trans day of visibility it would be cool to show a little support for trans works. I love that you already do, that's amazing! :)
I thought March 31st didn't exist?

That was one of my favorite bits lol. Too bad Chapelle has become so loudly and militantly anti-trans :(

I would need to get clarification on anything big that might anger the "pushing an agenda" morons that vote (the parish next door to us had its funding slashed horribly and they're having to shut down a ton of services they once had), but I do try to subtly sneak it in so as to be inclusive and supportive of any trans youth that come in such as choosing those titles over others for my book displays whenever possible. I figure if I'm just displaying books that are already in our collection then there's nothing anybody can really say about it.

So we got an email today, announcing plans the mayor has to move some of the funds from the library to the police force instead. Hoping it doesn't happen.
Gross. I believe orange Tramp cut federal funding to police. Very dumb that cities have to redistribute from other places to cover.

Because the police sure AF won't sell their APCs or tanks.

From what it said in the mayor's letter, it's mostly going towards giving police a significant salary increase. He was bragging about it.

Oh, well fuck Mayor McCheese, then.

And then the assistant library director sent out another email in which she was fact-checking all of the blatant lies in the mayor's letter, about how we are overfunded and shit like that. It was beautiful. I would copy and paste both emails here, but I'm not sure if it will get me in trouble or not.
Don't risk it, but it's nice to know.

Meh. Every time they walk up to me and ask "where are the printers?" I get to do a tally mark for stats. One of the ways we prove ourselves for funding.

“What did you get done today?”

Ants: “Your mom, and, also, I told 32 people where to retrieve their prints.”

Lol. Too bad I'm a local government worker because if I got that email all I'd have to do is show scans of my stat sheets and maybe pics of the displays and programs that I did.

Yet they're still trying to take our funding because the mayor is trying to use next years library budget to give the police an enormous pay raise (like 60% increase).

Please e-mail this info to me in 5 bullet points by Monday.

Gotta check that productivity.
Funny thing is 90% of my day is sitting behind a computer waiting for somebody to ask for help, yet I could still easily prove my usefulness and productivity if I needed to.

Yes, because police batons are far more educational to our youth than books. Makes perfect sense. Reminds me of the 90’s when education budgets here went to shit. First they cut music class, then art, then every foreign language except Spanish, then home economics, and finally… physical education. Fast-forward to today, and those same educators wonder why kids can tell you how many grams are in an eighth but can’t tell you about common denominators.

Omg, it's all become clear. Budget reallocation from libraries to the police must be why the phrase "throw the book at him" comes from. They skipped moving the funds and just replaced the guns with throwing-books.

Personally, I think he's doing it to jump on the hip MAGA "own the libs" trend. I imagine he sat there and thought "Hmm...how can I stir up a right vs. left controversy? I know! Do libraries vs. police!"

And, in a cruel yet intentional twist of fate, educational programs are among the hardest to “unlock” when you’re incarcerated. You bet your ass you can stamp some license plates, though. Ignore that sign with the picture of hands being crushed by something that looks strikingly similar to the machine in front of you. You can’t read it anyway.

Alrighty, I need to start thinking of an idea for April soon! I'm thinking Easter. I have some of the light purple paper I used back in September for Hispanic Heritage month, and that's the only color I have enough of in stock until I can grab some more from Main branch at next months Teen meeting. So puns or dad jokes that are books/library+non-religious Easter stuff. Or anything else related to April. Or hell it doesn't even have to relate to the month at all really, if I can't think of anything. Like the Tolkien one for example, even though I forgot his birthday was in January so that's just a coincidence lol

@Tommy Boy and I were born on April 11th, so just print a bunch of our posts and call it a day.

You can go for the "April Showers Bring May Flowers" thing (if that's a saying down there) and make a pun out of that.
Memory recollection triggered.

At my old job right before this one, I might have mentioned their insane, violent, psychopath eldest son living upstairs. He was the biggest pathological liar I've ever known before Trump started running for president (actually, he's about equal to 2016 Trump, though 2024 Trump is something else entirely). Dude was so weird in so many ways, including having arguments with himself in front of other people, and he did a lot of shadowboxing. He was a bit of a running joke between myself and the other workers whenever he wasn't within earshot.

Anyways, one time I overheard him talking to himself, and he was saying in a growling and very angry voice: "APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS
:grr2
:grr2
:grr2
:grr2
". One of many "WTF?" moments my brain keeps going back to.

Oh yeah. Somewhat kinda-related, as it pertains to a grad school assignment (where I'm working to get my Masters in Library and Information Science to promote to a Librarian some day). I'm about to start an elective that concerns YA media, including novels, graphic novels, and manga (literally 14 of those kinds of books as reading assignments for this course, as well as watching at least two animes from a list she provided).

My first assignment involves making an avatar of myself and posting it along with an introduction. Most of the avatar generators I looked for are shit. If anyone feels generous and wants to fill the vacant BFF position, a wicked anime avatar that looks kinda like me would be awesome. Especially if it kinda sorta makes me look a little like a slightly out of shape Nappa with some salt in his beard.

Edit: since I know we got some AI wizards here. I can post pictures of myself if anyone needs a better idea what I look like. Or we can just go with the Nappa thing since I'm white and shaved head with a beard.

Edit2: oh shit I just hit 6k posts. Now it's OVER SIX THOUSAAAAAAAAND!!!!

April Fool's, you could go with classics like King Lear or Don Quixote, or more teen attracting joke books.

Nice! I'm not sure how many joke books I have in my collection, I'll have to check. I often like to include covers of books that people can actually check out here.
After fucking about for a little while:

That looks pretty awesome, and the library background is a nice touch that I hadn't even thought of! I don't wear glasses but I may end up using this one anyway because it's so good.

If anyone wants to make any more, I just remembered one other detail: I often wear Hawaiian shirts to work 👍

I don't know why I thought you had glasses.. 😅 Maybe the librarian bit. :D

Omg. I don't know which one I like more :link 🤌
Okay so I ended up choosing Nae'blis version for the assignment because of the face, even though the body type for Bens was better and the flying books were hard to pass up. I ended up adding his too in a reply to my submitted assignment anyway :clap
