I have recently acquired a computer which is about 4 or 5 years old.

The spec is as follows:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3600 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
VENGEANCE® RGB PRO 32GB DDR4 DRAM 3600MHz C18 Memory Kit — Black
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti - 16GB
ROG MAXIMUS X FORMULA Motherboard

How does this fair in the current market?

What value do you think it holds?

Currently in the market for a new monitor and keyboard / mouse combo if anybody can recommend anything.

Thay definitely was amazing still a few years ago. Now, I'd say the old reliable 1080ti is starting to struggle. But not horrible by any means.

If I had a need for a new computer, I'd probably offer $500-600 for that. I think it's worth a little bit more. I believe the mobo was quite a premium one. If it has a higher quality psu then at least $100 more.

Monitors.... I tend to find then on sale more often than not when I get one. Last time I bagged a 120hz 4k monitor for 400. Can't beat that. What seems to be good right now is 1440p/4k, 120/144hz, preferably oled. Then just look at price and double check reviews.

For a mouse, I've really liked the logitech 502 lightspeed. I had the same one as wired before and liked it. This one is wireless with both 2.4g and bluetooth.

Keyboard I can't help you much with. There's always an old reliable $10 Logitech there that just works if you don't need anything fancy. Beyond that, a lot of it is preference based. Whether it's looks, size, switches, connectivity, the lot.

Do you think there is any benefit in replacing the GPU with a newer model or would the mobo and cpu not support? I am so out of touch with this stuff I genuinely have no clue where to start.

Thanks for the suggestions on the mouse. I like the look of that, will order one :)

Would this be a good buy?

I agree on the pricing. I don't really look at the other stuff but the CPU is ~£100 and the GPU about £120-160 depending on the exact model.

A 4K monitor is nice, but the 1080Ti won't really be able to push it fully outside of more lightweight games like CS2. The card is still pretty good but like all cards it will struggle more because the drivers don't really target it for optimisation any more. It's a shame it doesn't support DLSS either. There's also the case of games like Alan Wake 2 which on launch relied on hardware support for mesh shaders, which the 1080Ti doesn't have and led to rotten performance. They did patch in a solution specifically for 10-series owners but if hardware mesh shading becomes a requirement in the future (and the PS5/X do support it) then I could see the 1080Ti finally being left behind in some games.

Still, I'd probably hang on to it unless you are prepared to part with the money for something like a 4070 or 7800XT which is what you need to spend to get something definitely better outside of edge cases like the above.

I personally would replace the GPU. Like dimmer mentioned above, 4070 or 7800XT are nice ones that give you plenty of horsepower without costing too much yet. Though, if you can spare it, 4080 or 7900xtx are definitely nicer. But it will work for quite a few games other than some of the newest and fanciest graphically intense ones.

As for the CPU and mobo, nothing wrong with them. I guess the worst thing is if it doesn't have great m.2 support as those are nicer to have than a sata ssd. Otherwise you're fine using that one still for 2-3 years at least. If you find a deal on a 9800k or 9900k at some point, for like less than $100, that could potentially be an upgrade (though that's unlikely.)

PS it has a corsair 1000W PSU - not 100% sure of the model, but it has recently been replaced and is still practically brand new.
Then you're set! 1000W is overkill for most cards still, but the overhead should also help you in case it's not the top of the line corsair psu. In general, I haven't heard anything bad about their psu. I think my current one is theirs.

Oh yeah. That monitor looks perfectly fine. It might be better to look for a 1440p if you're not replacing your gpu, but if you are, then that will be good with it.
