The sky hasn't healed since the god stepped through.

The village is a flicker in the ruins — one stubborn flame where hope has not yet guttered out. Smoke still rises from the cities. The stars do not return. Most who survive now kneel or serve, their wills bent to the one who watches from beyond.

But not here.

Here, mages speak in hushed tones behind cellar doors. Old rituals are whispered through cracked lips. Scholars and holy men search ancient texts for a way to undo what was done — to send the god back into the dark.

And they are not alone.

The Acolytes have returned, hidden among the villagers. They smile. They listen. They whisper doubts and feed paranoia. Their task is simple: learn what the villagers know — and stop them before it's too late.

The villagers are not strong. They are not safe.
But they are not ready to give up.

BULLETIN BOARD:
WANTED: SMACKTARD

Crime: Being incredibly sus

Reward: 10 gold (5 from Local Hero, 5 from Alu) — that's two whole people who want this done.

Assassin, make it look like an accident. Or don't. We're not picky.

The game began with 4 Acolytes, 1 violent solo, 1 non-violent solo, 1 clairvoyant on the village team, and 9 other villagers. There is no set amount of strong villagers, the limitation is there can not be more than 1 of each (for example, there can't be two Mages). So the number of strong villagers can be anywhere from 1 to 6.

Minimum to witch hunt is 1/2 of the living players, odd numbers are rounded down.

The sun rises, but the village does not wake to birdsong. Only silence — and the knowledge that two among them will not rise again.

Shortkut is found first, crumpled in the grass behind the inn.
No signs of struggle. No footprints. Just his bow and arrows, neatly placed beside him.
The kill was clean. Quiet. Paid for.

The Assassin has struck. The Archer is dead.

A few streets over, they find Benzine slumped against the wall of the old granary.
A jagged blade buried in his back. Coins scattered at his feet, like a mockery of his trade.

The Acolytes walk among you still.
And the Merchant is no more.

At first, it's just sound.

A hammer. Striking iron. Steady. Measured. Familiar.

Some turn toward the old forge instinctively — a half-remembered comfort. But the rhythm is wrong. Off. The pauses too long, the tone too hollow. Each ring of metal on metal reverberates with something cold, something that does not breathe.

The Blacksmith is dead.

But the hammer is moving.

Smoke curls from the chimney, thick and dark, tinged with ash and blood. And soon…
his work returns to the world.

A Wight has taken up the forge.
And it remembers how to build.

Ok, I feel I should add some context because it wasn't technically my role that let me know how shortkut died, and I'm not sure we should actually kill Zell as the assassin because he could actually be useful against the acolytes. Thought he does start getting to kill the town if we don't put up a wanted poster today.

That said, I got lucky in my quest. I killed a snake in the necropolis and got a unique blood scroll. After randomly selecting Kut night one, I decided to continue targeting him with the blood scroll because 1) I thought it was funny, 2) he set himself up as a target and 3) it didn't actually do him or me harm.

It happened that he was killed last night and his killer was revealed to me. That being Zell.

So, I encourage the rest of the town to consider NOT taking Zell out. He can't be killed by acolytes, so he's eventually a threat to them, and we can use him to take out an extra acolyte or two. We know his identity, which is his biggest trump card against us (anonymity) gone.

I'll move my vote off him for now, but other thoughts are nice.

Other than that, it did kind of work out for me as I got a plan now. I'm going to be heading off to quest in the most suicidal way possible in hopes of dying and being useful. Sadly that didn't help me yesterday. I killed the dude I found. Maybe today I'll get injured and die tomorrow?

Also @Jon how do know about Zell?

Two posts above yours explains it.

If all that is true then we can at least wait one day to kill Zell. He shouldn't be able to assassinate anyone tonight as long as none put up a bounty on anyone.

The only other alternative to that would be that you're the assassin and unless someone has proof of either your or Zell or kills either one of you, it's a stalemate of sorts? That all sounds weird, so I'll ignore it.

At worst, Jon could very well be an acolyte who found out the assassin early. And now he doesn't want the assassin to be killed yet so that they chew through a little bit of the town first. That's also possible.

Or he's town and what he said is what he said. Sounds plausible enough. Welp.

Oh also also also, since I couldn't say anything yesterday, I got one of those puzzle pieces too! And I wanna collect them all. I can trade a sacred sword for one if anyone is willing.

I stopped getting notifications for yesterday's thread and got busy at work and forgot about the thread till it was closed. I didn't see who put up the bounty on Kut. Can someone fill me in on where it was? Because otherwise, I'm not sure how the assassin would have even been able to kill him.

I dropped a few fairly direct, I feel, hints as to my role early in yesterdays thread while joking with Kut. But sure, it's possible. Though unlikely since I'd have no reason to out him this early. I'd be smarter to let him do his thing without me indicating I know who he is (until he's killed more anyway).

I didn't notice it either. I'll look for one tomorrow unless someone looks for it first. Maybe there's an item that also does it privately?

Went over my head then. I'm usually one that just has a bit going and tend to view other peoples quirks as bits if it isn't quite normal for them.

... which should actually make it easier for me to pick up on those posts and figure shit out, but that's clearly not how my brain wants to work. Ah well. Sleep sounds good to me too.

Night 2 and night 3 would still be two nights in a row, so they still get to pick a random kill if nobody posts a bounty today.

In the dead of night, the Summoner begins their work.

Dark candles flicker, and the air hums with tension as the ritual begins. The circle is drawn, the offering placed, the chant spoken word-for-word — but the void stirs wrong.

The Summoner rolls a 2.

The magic recoils.

A tearing sound echoes from nowhere and everywhere, as if the ritual has offended something ancient and final.

"A soul must still be claimed," the darkness whispers. "But it shall not rise again."

A second die is cast into the silence. It clatters. Settles.

Dimmerwit. The Warlock.

Far from the ritual's site, a bitter wind snuffs out every nearby flame. Dimmerwit lets out a choking gasp and falls without warning, his warlock's mark already fading from his flesh.

No curse. No transformation. No legacy.

Dimmerwit is dead — and the void leaves him behind.

Okay, who the hell muted me the first day? Stupidly uncalled for and I'm 100% coming after you! :rant Like what the hell!
Coming back to this, looks like the warlock is the silencing role and the summoner rolled so bad they killed the warlock, which was dimmerwit. So... your silencer is dead.

But you can at least ask him when you activate ritualist Jawneh tonight!
