I figure we should probably start a new thread now that spring training has begun with the White Sox continuing their descent towards being the worst team in the history of baseball (they have won since that post) and people claiming that because the Rockies are pitching and batting well in the first two weeks that it OBVIOUSLY means they're primed to be a force in the NL.

The Guardians signed Tyler Naquin... as a pitcher. He last played in 2023 for the White Sox as an outfielder. Us Cleveland fans will always remember him for this play:

Missing from that clip are the horns that Naquin shot up after reaching home. 🤘

There is a reason to believe a little bit. We might have an ace, we have 3 legitimate starters along with 2-3 others that can fill in the back of the rotation. Maybe Bryan Bello makes a leap knowing he doesn't have to be the ace anymore. I couldn't tell you anything about the bullpen, which was a big weakness last year.

The lineup looks good assuming Duran can be close to last year. I don't know if that was a flash in the pan or if he is legitimately really good. Combine that with Devers, Bregman, Casas, and hopefully a healthy Story - you combine that with a bunch of kids that either had decent debuts last year (Wilyer Abreu, Kristian Campbell) and our highest rated prospects that are probably getting some time (Roman Anthony for sure and Marcelo Mayer) - they have what MLB.com called the 5th ranked offense in the majors.

There are a whole lot of what ifs, which is why I said earlier in the topic that I won't be surprised no matter where they finish the year. I can easily see it coming together for a division title, but I can just as easily see last place again if the pitching sucks. The unknown for me is the exciting part - a couple of these pieces could completely turn this team into a contender immediately... or not work out.

@The Eye in the Sky! @Alu ...who else is here i forget.

I can't believe I'm... getting excited for red sox season.
TECHNICALLY me. But since I moved to Florida I don't really associate with any ONE baseball team. I will always hold a special place in my heart for all Boston sports teams and root for them. I got off the Sox bandwagon with David Price and vowed I wouldn't root for them until he was gone. He's been gone a few years now, but they haven't been worth rooting for in that time lol.

@Fool's Requiem Congrats on the win. Of course the Royals would force a blown save off Clase only to lose by three in extras. Also, atrocious baserunnikg in the 8th. Not to mention intentionally walking old man Carlos Santana in the 10th to get to a lefty-lefty match up against a guy who already had a triple and a home run, both against lefties, and him promptly hitting a two-run double.

6 games in and the Mets are 3-3, if you go on Facebook, or reddit, or twitter though I'm sure the season is over according to them. I swear the Mets fandom has gotten worse since Steve Cohen bought the team they have pretty much become Yankee fans where overreactions after one game is becoming the norm. should the Mets be better? probably but not everyone can be the Dodgers or Padres. we'll see how the Mets are after this series with the Blue Jays
