What's your favorite track from that album?

Overall? Passenger. I’m a big Tool fan as well, and that was an awesome unplanned collaboration. Maynard was only supposed to produce the track.

On guitar? Elite or Digital Bath, both have two entirely different atmospheres to play with.

Did you like their newest albums, GORE and Ohms?

Ohms has some of Stephen’s best work since Around The Fur and White Pony. I’ll be honest, I had a tough time getting into Diamond Eyes because Chi’s death changed the sound on that album. I think the unreleased album should have been released in its place, and then Diamond Eyes should have been next. Just shelving the unreleased album after Cheng died was wrong, I get that it was hard, but still…

TI fuckin L

No wonder that's my favorite.

Dude, I’m a music geek. I go down rabbit holes with music like a QAnon conspiracy theorist researches gay frogs.

I was pretty shocked at his passing. I thought the Deftones would probably break up after. But I'm glad they didn't. I have to admit though, Diamond Eyes is one of my top favorite albums out of the rest. I listened to it the most even after Koi No Yokan was released. But not near as much since GORE and Ohms was released.

I don't think there's a standout track but I think for the overall vibe Koi No Yokan might be my favorite album to listen to, front-to-back.

I still need to really check out Ohms though. Maybe that will be my commute soundtrack this afternoon.

That opening riff on Swerve City gets me every time. So much fun to play.

Ohms is definitely an interesting album to listen through start to finish, but I’m curious what the next album is gonna sound like since Sergio Vega is out. Honesty, I hope they go for a bassist that doesn’t use a pick. The scraping stands out too much to me since there’s no overdrive to wash it out like a guitar.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a solid album… but what we were supposed to get in Eros and what we got in Diamond Eyes was muuuch different. I don’t know if any of those demos are still floating around online, but there were little clips of some of Stephen’s riffs and Chi’s bass tracks that surfaced before his accident that were very promising.

Just one demo is floating around and it's just sound. No vocals. On the Deftones discord, fans are still asking if they will change their mind and release the album. Many have assumed that Eros will stay shelved.
