New game got, and best part is I pass the minimum age requirement so I can play it.

I am exercising so much fucking restraint waiting until this weekend to play it with the waifu.

Anyone else have this game? Plan to get it? Maybe eventually we can link up and fuck around online?

Post your best bings and wahoos.

Been playing it a bit. So far my only complaints are that the talking flowers are kind of annoying and the levels are really short. But I'm only in the first world so maybe that changes. It's pretty decent so far. I really like the badge system, and the elephant power is interesting. Hoping there will be a lot of new power-ups besides that. It's cool that every level kinda has its own gimmick so far and it's not just "run to the end".

Oh and also they snubbed Wario and Waluigi as playable characters again because Nintendo seems to have some vendetta against those two despite being obvious choices:shakefist. I'm shocked they didn't even shoehorn Rosalina in again. I wanted to play as a Yoshi but unfortunately they're Baby Mode only.

I have never been a big Mario guy.

What is the best Mario game to start with?
Depends what you like. Smacktard gave some good choices for 2D sidescrollers, but the New Super Mario Bros. games are also solid. Wii one was my favorite of that series.

As for 3D platforming, I'd say Galaxy or Odyssey. 64 is iconic if you want to start at the beginning, but some people complain about the camera. And 3D World is good if you want 3D but prefer getting to a goal like the old games rather than exploring a world.

The NSMB games are great, just get a lot of hate for being repetitive, but they still improved on the series with every iteration (except 2). Wii U and Luigi U were fantastic.

Pretty much any of the 3D games are a good starting point except for Sunshine IMO. My favorite is 64, and the camera is easily fixed with one option that I think no one ever uses.

what do you guys think of the new VA?

Also, am I an idiot for having just now learned that Mario and Luigi are fraternal twins?

Is there some sort of payoff eventually for the talking flowers? Why put those in?

I always thought Luigi was the younger brother, and according to the various Wiki's, it looks like that's the established canon. So you're right for assuming that, I think we all have in our lifetimes.

My brother already beat the game by Sunday afternoon. I still haven't bought it yet. Thinking of getting the 2 game pass for $100 and getting Wonder and RPG - if I'm already getting both, it's virtually the only type of deal Nintendo offers so might as well.

well I guess what they are saying is "Mario came out first" thus being the older brother while still being a twin. Which is suuuper weird to think about!

And it sounds like part of this is a translation problem. I learned from this that there is no word for just "brother" in Japanese. It is either "older brother" or "younger brother"--which must be kind of weird for twins.

Game's fun so far. I've gotten like 4/5 worlds deep but only played levels from 1 side of that secret zone so i'm prob not even halfway through the game in terms of challenge. Normally I don't use online features but I've had it on for Wonder and I really enjoy seeing ghosts of other players alongside me. There's been times where I've been stumped on where something is hidden but the ghosts' movements give me the hint I need to find it. It's not even a huge spoiler in some cases because even with ghosts and standees I was stuck on some spots for like ten or more minutes totally confused. (I'm looking at you, pipe that you can push)

So, I finally started the game. The game isn't really suited to my wife, so after trying it out for a bit together, I've been playing it single-player.

It's super fun! I find myself being shocked by some of the wonder effects -- so much so that I've actually caught myself saying "Whoah what the hell!" out loud. One space wonder seed had me smiling from start to finish. It's a pretty magical game tbh. And the difficulty is ramping up a lot quicker than in any of the NSMB games. Pretty magical game so far.

She kept telling me to slow down and stop rushing :facepalm
At one point my wife was like "Why you going so fast!?" It's a struggle finding a game that's compatible with both of us haha. Tommy, I absolutely recommend Snipperclips for you and Yiwei. It Takes Two is the perfect couple game too.

This game is great. I didn't expect much going in, but it really surprised me with the flexibility of play styles and finding ways to make you work together. It was easy to fall into a comfortable role without being too annoying. I also play things annoyingly slowly, games are a work of art and I enjoy just looking around and enjoying the multimedia experience and finding small interesting details knowing that someone spent hours or even weeks making that little thing. I generally don't play games with other people for this reason, unless it's something I've already played alone and am satisfied I've thoroughly enjoyed the experience before wanting to have a completely different experience going at a fast pace with other people.

On topic, Mario is also great. The trailer for this one looked really good, and I hope to be able to try it eventually. It seemed like it might have some of that old school Mario magic.

And as far as getting into Mario for the first time, Super Mario Bros 3 is my fav and just an all around great experience even in modern times IMO.

Dude same. SMB3 is just such a great game. I'm still waiting for it to be topped.

I find I played like this in It Takes Two. There's just so many small and fantastic details that taking your time in that game just makes the world seem that much richer. I also found some skybox glitches that had my wife howling cause she never saw something like that before in a game 😂 I miss old school glitches like that.

I prefer it solo. The camera doesn't zoom out at all unlike NSMB games so it makes it tough to keep people on the screen at the same time.
So I assume its still fun? The few levels I've played the levels didnt feel like what I want from a 2d mario, the levels felt too wide and tall and samsey if that makes any sense. Never felt well designed like SMB3 or SMBW, more like a mile wide and inch deep.

Maybe because I had played it with others and the camera was zoomed out

You mean the NSMB games? Wonder feels a bit tighter so far, but yeah the first few levels can feel a bit empty. The craziness starts ramping up much earlier compared to the NSMB games though. World 2 is where it started getting pretty fun for veterans.

Yeah, Ive played a few of the NSMB and while I know this isnt technically one, feels in the same vein, though this could be a game to finally get my son into video games

Excuse me sir, this is a Nintendo thread. I knew what you said but COURSE CORRECTED for all the helpless children reading this thread :tissue
I’m going to leave this here
If ANYONE is allowing their children here, I will ban the shit outta them.

We are NOT starting another cycle of this.

It dies with us.

Ugh, I'm in the middle of five games right now, and y'all are making it so tempting to buy this one.

For Better or For Worse there's no point in Waiting for a sale giving how stingy Nintendo is and it may go on sale for 10 to $15 later or maybe you can find a buy to get one half off at like Best Buy and that's about as good as you're going to get, so if you want to play it it's going to cost you about the same now or later, so really I'm just probably making it harder for you to not buy it

I just bought Wonder, Bowser's Fury, and am picking up Super Mario RPG this week for Christmas gifts. So we will be full on Mario this year. My wife wanted the Spyro collection as well, so there is going to be fighting over the Switch for a while when we aren't playing together.

My daughter also wanted mini-figures of Mario characters, which was stupidly expensive, but I'll allow it becaus its for a good cause.

I can't wait to pick up Super Mario RPG. That game is my childhood, and is still my favorite game of all time. The new soundtrack sounds fantastic and the art direction looks excellent.

Bowser's Fury is fantastic too, and of course Wonder is great. Y'all are gonna have hella fun.

Loved Bowser's Fury, and its what I want from the next 3d marios

I was never a big fan for SMRPG, maybe because I didnt play it when I was a kid or I was a sega boy so the mario skin doesnt do much for me. I always felt it was decent jrpg that was propped up by the mario skin (but thats my unpopular opinion) Agree about Fury though, had a lot of fun with it

In the intricate tapestry of linguistic expression, the phrase "Wowie zowie" unveils itself as a nuanced portal to philosophical contemplation. The juxtaposition of "Wowie," with its echoes of childlike wonder, and "zowie," a lexical anomaly, initiates a dance of semantic discord that invites reflection on the fluid nature of meaning.

This interplay of seemingly incongruent words serves as a linguistic paradox, challenging conventional boundaries and beckoning the inquisitive mind to explore the inherent ambiguity of language. In the absence of a predefined narrative, "Wowie zowie" becomes a linguistic canvas upon which the intellect can paint its own subjective interpretation, a reminder that meaning is not an absolute but a product of individual perception.

Delving deeper, the absurdity embedded in "Wowie zowie" mirrors the inherent chaos of existence. Amidst the cosmic tumult where order and disorder entwine, the phrase becomes a microcosm of life's capricious nature. It serves as a subtle reminder that, in the face of existential uncertainty, embracing the nonsensical may offer a unique lens through which to navigate the complexities of human experience.

Ultimately, "Wowie zowie" emerges not as a mere linguistic oddity but as a philosophical touchstone, inviting contemplation on the dynamic interplay between language, meaning, and the existential tapestry of life. It stands as a testament to the richness of expression and the perpetual dance of interpretation that defines our engagement with the intricacies of language and thought.

For those of you who have played Wonder, how do you think it would be for kids going on 6 & 8?

My nephew and niece are getting a Switch for Christmas and thinking of grabbing it for them.
