FQ Wolf Wolf Discussion Thread

as some of you may know i ran a few games of Wolf/Mafia back in the PIMI/CV days, including one based on GW itself where every player had a unique role based on a GW member (that one may have been a bit too ambitious)

i really liked doing it and i miss it so i figured i’d see if there’s any interest in me doing it again? this first one would just be a very standard townies vs. wolfs situation with no unique roles to keep things simple. maybe if this one goes well i’ll do a more ambitious one with roles like Alpha Wolf or Doctor or Seer or Vigilante later on down the road!

the format would be your standard:
- EDIT: day phases of at least 24 hours, night phases last however long it takes for the wolves to decide
- wolves discuss amongst themselves who to kill during night phases and then one of them PMs me to make the decision
- execution votes take place during the day with discussion and arguments allowed and encouraged. vote changes probably limited to one per day
- so no one has to suffer the ignominy of getting killed in the first night phase without being able to participate, we’d start with a day phase and execution vote if everyone’s fine with that
- looking at a 1:4 ratio of wolves to townies
- any suggestions or tweaks more than welcome

i’ll leave this up for a few days and see how many people want in! as long as we get at least 10 i figure that’ll be enough but the more the merrier!

potential players: (13; 3 wolves vs. 11 townies)

- Fool's Requiem
- The Flame
- Raposa
- Warp
- Cole
- Major Isoor
- Holly
- shortkut
- Zell 17
- Jawneh
- canadaguy
- VashTheStampede
- Ants!
- God.

I'm down.

No suggestions in terms of rules, but if availability becomes an issue for people, 24 hour phases might make it easier for people to join. I seem to remember that being popular back in the day just because of differing timezones, though it does make things pretty long. Either way I probably won't have any issues personally.

I'm available for being cannon fodder, at minimum. Always have an hour or two available for shenanigans. Actual mileage may vary depending on when discussion is occurring relative when I'm being randomly dragged around during weekdays, though.

I’m in. I have some suggestions as I’ve played a LOT of werewolf since the GW days.

First, the wolves killing first is a requirement. It sucks to die night one but it gives information. The town randomly lynching gives no info and 99% of the time the town basically just starts the game down two townies instead of one.

Second, once we get feet wet we can add some special roles which will be fun.

firstly, where the fuck do you play wolf off GW?!

secondly, I disagree in part. if you play with strangers, yes absolutely.

but if you play with friends or even people you kind of know like on GW, my favorite day 1 strategy (which I now can't use) is to accuse someone at random. then you just watch and feed into the chaos. then towards the later end of the day phase, I insist on a vote of no lynch, because a random lynching makes no sense.

but you'd be surprised how much info you can get just from accusing someone at random day1 and starting the fight

ok i have heard the cry of the people and i can def do 24hr day phases! we could even stretch it a bit longer if necessary

i might also put whether to start with a day phase or a night phase to a vote, in true werewolf fashion. it seems like we'd be ok with starting with a day phase? i might not also have an execution vote the first day so everyone just has an opportunity to get increasingly paranoid about one another lol

either way i updated the first post with everyone who's interested! we hit my preferred minimum of 10 but i'll leave it open for another day or two in case anyone else wants to hop in. we have 11 rn so i'm thinking 3 wolves. i'll only up it to 4 if we make it to like 16

you do your thing with it, but my opinion is to have a day phase, but to allow a vote.

lynching at random is stupid, but finding out how people express that, or if they try to be adamant about a lynch gives a lot of info

Kind of funny to think though that the town would be voting to lynch their folk when the werewolves haven't even made their existence known as of yet.

it's an extreme religious society. all someone had to do was plant the word "werewolf" in their brain, and they'd be off accusing a hairy father of 17 and lynching him in the square.

Ha! I was wondering how long it would be until someone suggested a game of wolf.

I am SO in! 😁

Also I looked for the Link smiley emoji out of oldschool habit just now and then had a moment of sad realization like “oh yeah, we don’t have the GW emoji’s from before 😢

there sure is! i'm gonna leave one more hour in case any last-minute wolf fanatics want to hop in, but as it stands we're gonna have 3 wolves vs. 11 townies. when noon eastern time rolls around i'll start a new thread, tag our players, randomize the teams, send PMs out to the wolves, and we'll start our first day phase. it'll run for 36 hours, tentatively

Not sure if this is something that will come into play, or if it's even enforceable, but since post reactions are a thing now, I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to have some sort of rule that you can't revoke any Likes or reactions that you give out in the game thread? Maybe we're all super honorable people who wouldn't do such shady shit and it's not a big deal, but I can imagine a scenario where someone is seen silently agreeing with another player, but goes and revokes their reactions upon drawing suspicion.

oh yeah, i had something similar in that one GW-themed game i ran. it was the Jake and Marlei roles lol

will take into consideration. the current NPC roles i'm planning on are Seer (can check the identity of one person per night), Doctor (can ensure the safety of one person per night), and Vigilante (can kill one person per night but will lose that ability if they kill a townie). having every townie know the identity of one other townie might be a bit much with the NPC roles, but i might do like a Secret Lovers role where there is a pair of people who know for a fact that they're both townies

That works. I was thinking if we don’t have roles again

Yeah what the heck I check this place every day but I'm still getting the hang of seeing new threads I haven't participated in yet. Kind of forgot how forums work lol.
Check out the What's new tab when browsing ;)

Everyone who runs a game should get a Game Master badge or something.

@Mark @Crystal
Hmm. I like this, I'll look into it!
I just want a pizza badge
This, too!

I believe in a lot of the old games we had like a Freemasons role that was pretty similar to what's being suggested as well. Just a small group of a few townies who know each others' innocence.

Listen I still want to run one. And here is what I would do, based heavily on my experience on what is balanced in the Wolvesville app.

Everyone gets a role with an ability. Evils too. A 16 person game would look something like this:

Strong villagers:
Gunner: Can shoot and kill any player once per day. Two shots max.
Medium: Can revive any dead player. One time use.
Marksman: At night can place a target on a player. Any time after the next day phase, they can shoot them. If they shoot a villager the shot rebounds and kills them. Two shots max.
Witch: Has two potions. One can kill any player at night. One can protect any player at night. Consumed on use.

Regular villagers:
Aura seer: Can see if a player is village team, evil team, or unknown. “Strong villagers” show as unknown, as well as solo players.
Spirit seer: Can see if a player killed someone during the night.
Doctor: Can protect any player from death at night. Cannot protect themselves. Unlimited use.

Three villagers will get random roles that include the above (minus gunner/medium) as well as some additional weaker roles. So there could be multiple seers/docs/witches in a game.

Wolf team:
Nightmare werewolf: Can prevent any player from using their abilities at night. Two uses.
Berserk werewolf: once per game, can select any villager for a guaranteed night kill. Anyone attempting to protect that player will also die.
Wolf seer: Once per night can select a player and see their exact role.
Shaman wolf: During the day can select a player to enchant. They will show as evil to any seers.

Solo team:
Fool: Wins the game if they get lynched during the day. Loses in all other scenarios.

Solo team:
Serial killer. Can kill one player at night. Cannot be killed by the wolves at night. Can choose not to kill at night and stack kills for later use. Wins by being the last player alive.
