This is a thread for the glut of summer news that will be coming out from this weekend. The Summer Game Fest show itself is on Friday. See the table above which I shamelessly stole. There's also some non-event stuff like IGN Live.

Already some news as IOI, makers of Hitman, announced the name of their James Bond game as 007: First Light.

Also if you're wondering about Sony the word is they will hold an event sometime in June, but nothing is confirmed. We do see Sony stuff elsewhere though, and there's the Death Stranding 2 premiere on Sunday.

Nintendo are probably busy with Switch 2. Their next showing is the Pokemon Direct on 22 July.

The Unreal event is starting soon. It is a tech-focused event, but there will be some Witcher IV footage.

So, that was more to show off what Unreal 5.6 can do as opposed to announcing a bunch of new games using Unreal. Should have figured that, but the Witcher footage suggested to me that maybe more games would truly be announced instead of a bunch of concept footage.

Well, Sony have confirmed their State of Play for June, which is in fact going to be tomorrow.

The hot rumours suggest Resident Evil 9 might make an appearance either tomorrow or sometime else this week.

I really don't know how to feel about that series anymore.

4 was great and iconic, but started straying from the whole "zombie virus" roots. Still, it worked.

5 was good too but started leaning too hard into the action "I'm going to punch this boulder" territory, and just got weirder with the parasite goo stuff.

6... I don't even know what to say about 6. That was just a clusterfuck.

I didn't play 7 but from what I know it was pretty fucked up and hillbilly like.

8 was very fun and had some creepy fucking enemies, especially the Vârcolac, but at the end of the day you were fighting a mushroom. I don't remember what happens in the 8 sequel where you play as Rose, whether they wrapped up that storyline or what.

I guess I'd just love for them to return to good old fashioned zombies and not come up with some new weird shit that Umbrella apparently had their hands in.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls announced, a 2D Marvel fighting game by ArcSys.

Along with the 2D Mortal Kombat collection unveiled earlier.

It closed the show. No Resi Evil 9, although since apparently they don't have a marketing deal with Sony any more that's no great surprise.

Ok, watched the Marvel Token trailer. Looks like Marvel vs Capcom mixed with Guilty Gear Strive. 4v4 tag team would suggest a large roster of character.

Oh nice. It's pretty rare to see a Rockstar game on a Nintendo console, not including Gameboy games. The Switch got the GTA trilogy demakes, Red Dead 1 (and the zombie DLC), and LA Noir. Before that, the Wii got Bully, Manhunt 2, and Table Tennis. The Gamecube only got Smugglers Run Warzones. Before that, as DMA Design, Body Harvest (N64), Space Station Silicon Valley (N64), Lemmings (NES), Lemmings 2 (SNES), and Uniracers (SNES).

Bully, Smugglers Run, and Table Tennis were not done by Rockstar North/DMA Design.

Also, watched the Bond trailer. Nice to see a new Bond and a young one, at that. Dude grinning all over the place like he definitely enjoys this shit. Perfect James Bond.

Mundfish show two things.

First, Atomic Heart II, which supposedly has more emphasis on RPG elements. I quite liked the first game and it had a lot of potential, so that's neat.

Then an MMO RPG spin-off called The Cube, where a giant cube appears and then everyone seems to shoot each other. They don't lack ambition, that's for sure.

I must be hallucinating, because I've just seen a puppet boxing game called Felt That Boxing. As if Sesame Street was cancelled and they just went off the rails.

Now there's a deception murder mystery game called Killer Inn which I should love but frankly nobody will actually play like any of the other games in that genre.

A neat clay-model based game called Out of Words, and a LEGO co-op game (Voyagers) like Split Fiction. A lot of stuff here that's been announced though in this mid-stream slump. Mafia does look good, but a lot is stuff I haven't even glanced over at.

And then, as if to embarrass me for the post above and after another cock block earlier, Resident Evil Requiem is announced for a 27 February 2026 launch.

So after the main show came the Day of the Devs show for indies and it was IMO much more interesting, with some really neat games unveiled and showcased.

Also IOI did their showcase. Their new James Bond game is so stealthy it didn't even appear save for the trailer they'd already shown. Their main announcement was a Hitman co-op mode.
