My journal looks like the scribbles of a madman.

If you like this game I also highly recommend Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. Not a roguelike, but an amazing recent puzzle game about uncovering mysteries in a mystery house.

That one broke my brain a little too much. This was the proper amount of thinking for me.

It's an absolutely incredible game.
@Kat and I chatted about it a bit in the Whatcha Playing thread.

I don't have much more to add beyond what is said - but there's absolutely a ton of stuff to do after hitting the credits, more stuff unlocks, there's a plethora of puzzles still to solve (seriously the number of these puzzles and the intricacy is insane), and there's new game modes that you can unlock too.

I'm on Day 35(?) on my main slot which has been going for a bit post-credits. I have a second slot because of Dare mode. I originally said there's no way I'll go for the Platinum on this one, but because I'm a bit of a sadist, I just might - I got four trophies down so far.

Honestly I haven't played it much since I last posted. It's frustrating to know I want certain rooms in the same run but I have no way to make it happen. Or even when I manage to do that, I almost immediately run out of possible ways to go, even if I prioritize rooms with more doors. Like for key card doors, I've never once had the breaker box + security room + a key card door all in the same run, even with the two rooms drafted very early. So yeah, I know I can do that to get more unlocked doors, but it somehow makes it so I can't get a high enough rank for it to matter.

So this gets more into general game mechanics but one of my biggest learnings was realizing that priorizing all the doors is a bad idea. While it may seem counterintuitive, use dead-end rooms early and often. A lot of them are useful but more than that, they get removed from the pool, leaving more multidoor rooms available at higher rank, where you may not be able to open all the doors. Avoid a web of interlocking rooms. My successful runs always see me running 10+ dead-end rooms.

This is excellent advice. I hadn't put together that they could only be drafted once so they'd quit popping up.

I've gotten back into this and have had a lot more luck by taking your advice to draft rooms to get them out of the drafting pool. I'm still not able to get most of the room combos I want (including the one I mentioned in a spoiler previously), but I've found other things to discover and puzzles to work on, so it hasn't been too discouraging. I'm particularly enjoying the wall art puzzle.

What do you all think about the dartboard puzzle? Was it difficult to figure out the rules without hints beyond what's on the dartboard? I feel like it was one of the easier puzzles in the game, but my IRL friends apparently had to resort to googling it.

Yeah the Billiard puzzle isn't too bad early, as you approach 50 and beyond puzzles, it gets a little ridiculous figuring out the order of operations.

And after 60+ hours I just learned you can sprint.

Hahaha, I learned about it by commenting to my friend that I wished I could run, and she said you can! It's not a button I ever would've thought to try.

I've discovered a lot of interesting things since my last post. I'm also going to withdraw my complaint about the note taking. It is annoying to have to take screenshots of everything, but generally writing out what I want to note helps me figure things out.

There are moments that are such a rush! Like trying a key on a dozen doors without success and suddenly having it work after you've given up on it. Or when I did a lab experiment which was "when you draft a bedroom, add three aquariums to the drafting pool". Since an aquarium is a bedroom, I was unable to resist building six in a row. It wasn't particularly helpful, but it was plenty amusing.

I've been trying to get a boiler room for twenty days now, which is annoying and frustrating because I'm pretty sure I need it to make progress at this point and there's not much I can do about it, but at least there's other interesting stuff to keep me entertained.

So the lack of a Boiler Room shouldn't negate your overall progress as there's multiple ways to do just about everything, though it is needed for a few specific things I've discovered at this point.

That said, if you're seeking out a Boiler Room specifically - without giving things away, I'll say there's multiple ways to make them significantly more likely to appear. One of which practically guarantees it.

Hmm, I guess I don't need it as much as I thought then. That's good to know. I'm not sure what else I'm meant to be doing right now though.
If you like I can try to nudge you in the right direction without spoiling much. What do you believe you need the Boiler Room for?

Heh, my notebook definitely resembles every unhinged notebook ever portrayed in media: lines connecting things which have only the most tenuous hint of possibly being related, random sentence fragments in all caps, question marks everywhere, you name it.

If you like I can try to nudge you in the right direction without spoiling much. What do you believe you need the Boiler Room for?
I was thinking it'd help me
drain both the fountain and part of the reservoir so I can use the boat to get across the reservoir.

I vaguely remember reading the boiler room was useful in several rooms including the pump room, and I haven't found any other way to use the reserve tank.

It felt like the water was too high to reach the boat in the reservoir (even though you definitely could reach it walking on the handrails, it won't let me do that). It's also possible I can't use the boat regardless and I just need to find a different entrance, which I've found multiple hints saying exist. But I have no idea where they could be.

But surely the reservoir is in the pump room for a reason?? Even though the kitchen and aquarium don't seem to do anything interesting when you change the water levels... Either way, the boiler room must be useful in some ways since there were a few rooms listed as working with it. So it should let me do something interesting if I can get the right combination of rooms.

I've also found mentions of other rooms I've never seen, so maybe I need one of those more. But again, I haven't seen any way to make them appear besides drafting some rooms which make rarer rooms more likely (which I don't always have the opportunity to do either), getting dice to re-draw in high ranks to get more opportunities to see rare rooms, etc.

There is indeed an interaction between the Pump Room and the Boiler Room. I'll also just throw out a casual reminder that a lot of things you do remain like that across runs, for example, if you adjust the water levels with the Pump Room, the water levels will remain like that across all runs until you adjust it again. I won't say too much more as that can get into spoiler territory, but I will say there's documents/hints somewhere (I don't remember where) that talk about the Reservoir water levels.

In terms of getting down there. There are indeed multiple ways to get down there - I have personally found four different ways of getting down there.

But overall, yes, the Boiler Room is quite useful, though it is not a progress blocker and the thing I like about this is that no individual room is a progress blocker if you don't get it.
But again, I haven't seen any way to make them appear besides drafting some rooms which make rarer rooms more likely (which I don't always have the opportunity to do either), getting dice to re-draw in high ranks to get more opportunities to see rare rooms, etc.
There are many ways to influence the rate at which rooms spawn. To avoid spoiling too much, I've only included the first letter and you can click to reveal the rest if you want:

Library is likely the one that you are familiar with the most. The one exit will always be to an unusual/rare room.
Solarium is a floorplan that you must unlock. Once drafted, it will greatly increase the odds of unusual/rare rooms for that whole run.
Finally, my favourite, Conservatory is a floorplan you must unlock too. It allows you to permanently adjust the rarity of rooms. Upon drafting, three random rooms are selected and you can use this room to change the rarity to any of the four rarity types.

In terms of rerolling, dice are the most upfront way. There are also at least four rooms that provide more opportunities to reroll rooms as well.

And when it comes to Mechanical Rooms specifically, there are two items that can infuece this.
#1) Wrench can be found anywhere and it allows you to permanently adjust the rarity of a mechanical room upon drafting it.
#2) If you draft the Workshop, it allows you to combine items. One of these combinations can influence this greatly.

I'm maybe being a bit vague, but I'm also trying not to spoil too much.
You're definitely on the right track though.
:)

Holy heck are there so many more puzzles in this thing. Like hot dang!

Just finished day 16. I got some permanent fixtures and upgrades done. I have some things scribbled in my notepad to keep track of. The two pictures puzzle was kind of neat. I do have some cripes though.

As it was mentioned here already, the stupid boiler room. I didn't realize that anything useful related to it needs to be planted next to it. That was annoying to find out.

I managed to have a day where I filled all, but 5 rooms. Potentially could've done them all, but I took a risk with my last room and I couldn't move forward anymore. Had to choose either a blind room or use my last two gems. Should've used the gems lol.

I also figured out the chest puzzle. Man is that going to be annoying to complete.

In:RE @Kat doing the Aquarium does give clues to something else.

Errr... Yeah. Rest I want to say would be spoilery in nature, so I wont get to them yet. Maybe in another few days or something.

So I'm around 70 hours in right now and yeah the sheer volume of puzzles in this game is crazy. Just when you think you're grasping a hold of things, you find more secrets.

I'll also add that every function in this game and every room has a  purpose. Except maybe the Lavoratory, I haven't figured out if there's anything to do there.

I also found even more ways to get there.

I'm at the point on my main slot where I'm uncovering the backstory of the manor and I'm actually more into that part than I would've thought.

Also - update on my wonderful decision to try for the Platinum. I'm a couple major trophies away. But the difficulty of this Platinum is bonkers. I've gone for some really difficult ones in the past but this one takes the cake.

I'm still enamored with this game.

Hmm. I think I need a better TV, I couldn't really see anything.

Lolsob, I finally got one and then couldn't power anything with it because the rooms that could use power were too far away.

Fortunately I found my way to room 46 another way so I'm not too broken up about it.

I saw that! I didn't notice which two you were missing though. I have two and the only other one I'll try for is to fill the room directory. Some of the trophies just seem too dependent on RNG to be fun. You'll definitely have quite the bragging rights after you pull it off, that's for sure.

There's at least 3 things in the room that are related to things. Two of them are obvious. The third one I started to uncover, but couldn't do anything with. Though I got an idea. Probably related to one of the others. Would make sense.

I made note of the things when I saw them and managed to figure out a part of it during one day. It's just.... I want to do so much more during each day, but then I'm out of steppies or didn't get the rooms I want or whatever. I'm just upset lmao.

Honestly, most of the trophies aren't too bad because you can benefit from permanent changes run-to-run and still have plenty of actual gameplay/puzzles left.

Cursed mode is objectively the most challenging.

The 8 Realm Sigils one is a big challenge but also a lot of fun because of the puzzles.

Reach Room 46 on Day 1? That's just RNG hell. No matter how good you are, you need a lot of luck. That's the major one I have left and it's really the main one that is dependable on RNG.

Okay, some of these room upgrades are very interesting.

I got Parlor up currently. Obviously, 3 gems sounds amazing. Funeral parlor could be very nuts with a few extra red rooms. But the 2 wind-up keys... At first, that's just two tries, but could you trade one of those in for something good? Hmmmmm. I want to know, but I also don't want to spoil this game.

Bah. Maybe I'll science it on another run.

You can trade it for decent stuff in the trading post, yeah. Otherwise I don't think it'd be useful unless you regularly need multiple tries. I went with the three gems option.

I have fucked up that puzzle a couple of times and it really annoys me every time. Usually two more seconds of thinking tells me what I fucked up.

How do you get the other game modes? It just put me into the house again the next day and nothing seemed different (besides the trophy and letter). I tried going back to the home screen to make a game in a new mode and there didn't seem to be a way to do it. Am I missing a menu option or is there something else I need to do?

I'm scared of whatever "cursed mode" is.

I've been thinking about how to approach that, but it's tough for sure. I feel like you need at least one rare room which will take dozens of runs to get. Not having the extra steps would really suck too, but you might get lucky enough to get around that one.

Unrelated to all that, is anybody else annoyed by this child being entirely devoid of any sense of adventure? Oh you don't know the secret to get into the cloister? Maybe just step over that one foot high wall? Oh you can't reach the boat because there's some water on the dock? Are you the wicked witch who melts when she gets wet?! C'mon now, do you want your inheritance or not??

Dare mode you got to buy from the souvenir shop. Curse mode you got to anger the gods (I only know since I just got cursed lol). No menu for them, though I haven't bought the dare one, so I don't know how that works.

Considering I'm currently cursed, maybe I'll get lucky and get to 46. It will be rough though.

Regarding the boat, there's also an extra boat that you can find! Can't get to it, but it exists! The cloister does upset me too.

What?!?! I feel like I haven't been playing right if I've gone through nearly thirty days without angering gods. Hmmm.
