These fucking things from Aldi are great. I think they're 3 and a half bucks a bag. I hope they're not limited time items. Definitely buying more when I finish these. Use by date is over a year from now, so I could theoretically stock up if I had the room. Aldi has a decent dark chocolate selection, though, so probably not necessary.

Dark chocolate ain't my thing, but Aldi is surprisingly good. They have a brand of Jaffa Cakes that are probably better than the 'big brand' in England.

Someone told me about these from IG and we found them at our local Central Market. Delicious but oof, really high on calories.

Burger King were giving away free Whoppers today, so I got one.

Supposedly they've improved it, but it tasted identical to me.

Still, free burger = good burger. Most of the time anyway.

I use avocado oil instead of olive oil for cooking. My thinking was I don't like olives and do like avocados so maybe I'd like it better? But it tastes pretty much indistinguishable to me.

They sell something similar at Fred Meyer near me. I think they also have a blackberry one which is equally delicious (but might be a local thing). They're a great snack.

oh, my reply disappeared in the Great Server Kerfuffle of 2025.

Is this Mediterranean or Middle Eastern styled food? I love that stuff. I'm not partial to feta cheese or hummus, but just about everything else I've had is aces.

STL is filled with great Mediterranean and Middle Eastern style restaurants, which was not something I was expecting moving from DC which had a good share of those places within walking distance for me.

I had a great lunch today at a Persian "Cafe".

That's a koobideh and chicken kebab, with balsamic rice, and grilled tomatoes, plus Chai tea. Not shown, the slice of butter that was on top of the rice that I mixed in before taking the picture and the cucumber yogurt sauce I requested.

It's the small wins that count!

I've got into flavoured KitKats since my mum brought me back some from Japan. I tried the salted caramel version of the above and it was great.

Japan is very much still the king of flavours though. Apple Cinnamon and Cafe au Lait were two of my favourites. Hojicha is also up there. Strawberry adult version meanwhile was a disappointment.

Been having a shitty couple of weeks, so I decided today I would treat myself...you know, you're barely scraping by, so why not waste $4 on a giant bag of crisps? Turns out these things are fucking amazing. I mean they don't touch anything we have in the UK, but nicely done, Funyuns, good flavour.

I'm more impressed with your holding on to the olde tongue, with "crisps". I've admittedly dropped all English terms in favor of Americanized ones, at least that I can think of. Purely because I got fed up with people giving me "ohhhh you're British, like Harry Potter!"

Pronunciation of stuff might still slip through, though. My kids like to point out how I say "garage".

I live an isolated life at this point, so lots of it slips back in unintentionally, I don't know why, I went to high school here, I pretty much spoke in fluent American, lol. Now? It's sort of reverting.

Anything to not be American, I get it.

I subtley enjoy dropping an "oh bugger/bollocks" at work sometimes.

Although I do have some English coworkers, but they're not as sensitive as the Americans I think might get offended if I ever say "damn".

Well I spend all day around a grown up Scottish toddler and occasionally around a bigoted belligerent Englishman, so...yeah, I think it makes sense for me that a lot of my vocabulary is sort of reverting a bit, and maybe there is some intention to it at times, I'm definitely guilty of a bollocks in place of a more casual shit, fuck or damnit. It also doesn't have the same impact that my accent now is so nothing, so mutilated beyond belief that I sound like I'm quite literally from nowhere. So it probably sounds like an American tryhard speaking British. Or maybe I could pass as Canadian? I don't know. Marcie's heard my voice and she says I still have an accent, but I don't hear it.

Good ol garrige!

Hit them with "car park" next, Americans seem to like that one.

I've also become aware that the term "fortnight" is not common over there, which is quite funny given the popularity of the game.

I still use fortnight. Fuck 'em.

But outside of my job, where we've got a number of Brits in my department, Americans don't really get that one. Definitely had someone go "huh, the game?" at some point.

My mum tells me I sound wholly American. My current boss (from Tennessee) told me I sound like Johnny Depp in January, though. Not sure I get that one.

At least I don't sound Southern. I picked up New England if anything. Old England + New England = Regular England.

... I learned earlier today that the gyro hub is actually a small franchise and that there's one within half an hour from me instead of 2.5h where I went the first time. This isn't going to be healthy to my bank account.
