Multi Your greatest gaming achievement

Alright, what's the one thing you've done in a video game that you are most proud of? That makes you feel like your grandkids might one day see your save file and say "Wow, what a fucking loser my grandparent was!"

Here's mine (from VVVVVV, completed "No death mode"):

They're actually relatively recent and don't really show up in screenshots but my most accomplished one is probably doing a no-hit run of the Pantheon of Hallownest in Hollow Knight. Beating this is a pain in the ass as is.

Close runner up is doing a no death / no bonfire run in Dark Souls II for those two special rings.

Call me old school, but my biggest achievements in gaming are still maxing out the playtime on FFVII (legitimately, no accidental clock runoffs) and completing every single thing there was to do in that game.

ooh, this is tough. i have a long-term goal of getting the platinum trophy in every mainline yakuza game and have currently done 0, kiwami, kiwami 2, 3, 4, and am almost done with 5. once that's done that'll probably be my proudest accomplishment

in terms of like, smaller-scale things though? hmm. i got every spirit in SSBU. i got good enough in dragon ball fighterz that i placed top 8 at a tournament and made it high enough in ranked online to get the platinum trophy for that game. i did the endless setlist in rock band 1 and 2 on expert drums.

i have my answer, though. as a kid i got all 180 emblems in sonic adventure 2: battle.

Impressive! You're an absolute mad-man. I planned on 100%ing HK, but Godmaster just drained my soul. The final pantheon is so long and annoying, and I couldn't be arsed to beat it with all bindings. I ended up just abusing an invincibility glitch and not even feeling bad about it because I couldn't commit to spending dozens of hours practicing a game that I loved but was starting to hate.

My biggest achievement is unlocking all costume pieces on Mario Maker 2. If you don't know the game, it might not sound like much, but to get them all, you need to complete five of the toughest things in the game. I realllllly had to scam a few of these to get them.
  • Getting first, second, and third place on all-time leaderboards
    • I did this for total course clear time records, and I would've also done for most-played course (only weekly trophy) except that Nintendo nuked my course for "dark themes". I had to spend about month playing pretty much every free hour I had, trying to get and maintain speedrun records for homemade courses people made. Fun but exhausting. I had to set about 50 records a day, and ended up with around 1400 3164 records total.
  • Getting S+ rank in online multiplayer.
    • You compete against 3 other people at your rank, and at the second-highest rank, every time you win you gain something like 9 points, and every time you lose 5 points. Many of the courses are random so it's EXTREMELY difficult to come in 1st enough. Also, I had to do this during a 10-day holiday in Canada because my internet in Saudi was spotty. I got to S rank naturally and half way to S+-rank, then used a second console and played at weird hours to boost myself to S+ rank, which I also had to get up to S rank so I could compete against my S-rank self. I could've done it legit, but I just didn't have enough time.
  • Win 10 online multiplayer matches in a row
    • Competing against 3 other players, and you need to win 10 times in a row. Utter insanity, and straight up impossible at higher levels. So, I nuked my score and competed against scrubs. Still a lot of random chance, so when I got to about 7 wins in a row, I boosted myself using a second console + profile.
  • Win 100 Expert courses in a row without game over.
    • You start with I think 5 lives, and you can get 3 1-ups per courses, etc., but a lot of these courses are complete bullshit with sub-2% win ratios. Many troll courses, many puzzle courses that you could never get on your first try, insane Kaizo levels that just require rote memorization... So what I would do is I would start a new course, get the code for the course, load it up on a different console, see if the course was practical to complete, and then complete it on my main game. I guarantee you anyone with 100 wins or more did the exact same thing.
  • Get 7000 maker points / Receive 5000 plays on a course
    • You need one REALLY good course + more good courses to reach these milestones. I made a couple of story courses that got semi-famous, tens of thousands of plays. One was about Mario winning in the stock market, getting a lot of money, and going bust and having his house demolished. Got played by a famous Korean streamer. There's a vid on YouTube. Another was about committing vehicular manslaughter, getting arrested, going to court, doing time in prison, and having a redemption arc. It was fun shit to make, and I had to spend time shilling my levels on Twitch but I eventually made it.
All-in-all clocked about 1,000 hours in Mario Maker to get all of these. NEVER. AGAIN.

This full team wipe in Destiny 1 felt pretty amazing lol. I had no idea all 6 opponents were there.

EDIT: Also earning Luna's Howl, The Recluse, and Revoker through the comp playlist in Destiny 2.

Didn’t think about multiplayer but can absolutely understand your feelings there.

Winning on Warzone early used to be an incredible feeling. Remember doing a 1v3 to win it all while stood up and jumping around with cramp in my leg.

300 in wii bowling

Hole in 1 in wii golf, -8 in wii golf

Got all the cards in ff9

Won 3 matches in Tetris 99

Oh these are good. My top Wii bowling is 277 which isn’t great, but my best 9 holes in wii golf is -10. No holes in one though.

I DID get all the platinum medals for the mini games in Wii Sports though. Pretty proud of that one.

I don't really have much context for what's impressive pre-accounts stat tracking/Achievements/Trophies.

Generally, probably the most noteworthy would be reaching Stage 93 or something in the NES version of Galaga back in the early 90's.

Post-Achievements/Trophies:

- I conquered the entirety of Catherine. Gold Medals on all stages, completed all of the Tower of Babil challenges, did the stupid minigame. Everything.

- I have collected all 900 Battle Trophies in Star Ocean IV: The Last Hope, earning the Ultimate Battler achievement and an excellent case of "lolnope."

- I got gud over an extended summer break in the late aughts, spending upwards of 3 full months practicing and finally completing both Through the Fire & Flames and Devil Went Down to Georgia on Expert Guitar in Guitar Hero 3.

- I completed Rock Band 2's Bladder of Steel on Hard Guitar (fuck you, Visions, otherwise Expert!), which is basically playing every song in the game back-to-back without pausing the game or failing out even once

- I am one of about 115 people known to have earned all Achievements for Final Fantasy XI. But that wasn't really hard, so I went ahead and built one of the strongest guilds on my server and became, to our knowledge, one of only 3 groups there to tackle Divine Might II on Very Difficult on-content. ...Never putting that much time and effort into something again. 😂

Let me ask you this. I wanna play through all the FF games but FFXI has been a mental obstacle. Is it even still playable as a total noob? I’m not even asking if it’s good, just is there a campaign I can reasonably get through without dedicating my whole life

Oh, yes! Absolutely. They've made many, many changes over the last 10 years especially that make it very easy to jump in and get through all of the story content solo. A lot of which is actually pretty good!

They have things called "Trusts" that are basically characters from the various stories, and you can call/summon them in almost every content type so it's a party-in-a-pocket system.

Completed the first two COD:MW games on veteran difficulty and Mass Effect 2 on insanity. I’m not a good gamer so the challenge of beating things on the hardest difficulty was a rush (and not something I’d have the time to try again now!)
CoD4 Veteran irked my soul. Enemies all know where you are at all times, grenades everywhere, random one-shots from things you can't see - and all enemies infinitely respawn until you reach unmarked checkpoints. ...With said checkpoints despawning the enemies that came before, so the game ends up becoming "skip everything, run forward and pray" a lot of the time. :chuckle

This one is insanely impressive to me.
Yeah, I was surprised how uncommon a completion it is! It's my second-highest ranked game on TrueAchievements, losing only to SSX because that was available for free/on GamePass/on EA Play.

I super enjoyed my time with the game - besides the damn minigame lol - and reaching the top of the last Tower of Babel was a great feeling. :)

That minigame...
Ugh, that was probably my biggest barrier.
Yup, absolutely no idea what the hell they were thinking. It's not even necessarily difficult, it's just... why are there so many stages? Why do you have to then do extra stages on top?! Why why why. :ROFLMAO:

If anyone's curious about the Tower of Babel (just stop watching before/don't skip beyond the 24 minute mark to avoid narrative spoilers):

I've been thinking about this a fair bit when you posted it. I think it would have to be competition results from when I was a try hard CSS player. A lot of this is contextual as why would any of you know anything about any of the teams involved, but my best achievement would probably be coming second in this one day tournament. We beat a lot of very good teams and put the best score against the winners, who were about as top flight in Australia at the time as can be.

That was more impressive than placings we had in ladders/proper tournaments, despite not being as good as some of the results. Was a hell of a day!

I think otherwise, it would probably be having some pretty cracked time trial times on CTR.

For PS games:
My rarest trophy is Furi's platinum, at 1.74%. It honestly wasn't that tough to get. I think it took me 3 or 4 days to start and then 100% the game? Next rarest is Platinum in Arkham Origins at 1.84%, but I also 100%'d that game which just became a monotonous slog by the end.

I’m in the same boat actually. I’ve played all main series single player apart from 5 and 16 but haven’t played 11 or 14.

FF14 is even easier to get into than 11. All of the "MMO" parts of 14 are essentially locked behind doing the story; the story is 100% mandatory to do. 14 has one continuous narrative that spans all expansions, 11's first two expansions (Zilart and Promathia) are loosely connected and serve as extensions/sequels to the base game, while each of the other expansions have largely standalone stories that are never the less referential to one another in various ways. For my money, 11 is the better approach - but it doesn't have the same highs (or lows lol) that you may or may not get with 14.

I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 8,000 hours logged in XI and 17,000 hours logged in XIV. So, if you have any questions about either, I... probably have a lot to say. 😂

If it wasn't for the chao grind, this wouldn't have even been that bad. But why the hell did they have to hide emblems behind the chao race and karate?! :sad

Some games I've 100%'d are Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, both Banjo games, most Zelda games. Grinding to get some mounts in WoW was very rewarding in the end, but basically a non-achievement these days.

I guess for me it was being the only one I knew back in my preteens in Finland who had gotten 150 Pokemon and then also 151. I think I also managed 251 thanks to Pokemon Colosseum.
