Industry Where do you get your gaming news and reviews from?

Given that I'm looking to do more gaming this year, it's occurred to me that I have only a very rudimentary awareness of what's going on in the industry nowadays. I used to read magazines regularly, and then did read some websites regularly at one time, but most of those websites have diversified considerably and are perhaps not as reliable a source of information and reviews as they used to be. Nowadays I follow one site in particular for deals on things including video games, and therefore naturally become aware of newer releases. I also find things via the Steam discovery queue, and will use Steam reviews to influence my decisions on purchases quite heavily.

But I don't really have a consistent source of gaming news and reviews of newer games outside of that. For example, I've just randomly seen on Steam that Civ VII is coming out next month, and I didn't even know it was in development. Same for the new Indiana Jones game, which is supposed to be excellent but which I randomly noticed on a Facebook buying and selling group. I feel like it would be helpful to inform myself a bit more and keep my knowledge up to date. So what does everyone use for that? Websites would be useful, but I'd actually be interested in podcasts and YouTube channels too, as I use both at the moment and could definitely mix in some gaming content.

I mainly listen to/watch Nextlander (off-shoot from Giant Bomb).

Additionally I follow several gaming reporters/critics from the old glory days of gaming news on social media.

But for me it's mainly Nextlander. They keep me up to date on industry news and every month they do a podcast detailing all the games coming out.

Oh and for deals it's 100% Wario64 on Bluesky (Twitter if you can stomach it).

I basically use Reddit for most news in general - but it's my main source of gaming news; whether it's console specific subreddits like playstation, or game/series specific subreddits. I also use things like the official playstation youtube channel to catch announcements of games or updates that interest me, then typically will find a subreddit to follow associated with that game.

They also typically have review megathreads for games and such, if you're into reviews.

My friends. I follow a couple pages, but I don’t really follow the feeds like that… I just kind of skim. If I play a game these days, it’s usually a recommendation from someone.

@Smacktard and @TD both have provided me with good recommendations in the past, as well as some of my offline friends that I talk to. Generally, I’m more trusting of a suggestion from someone whose preferences I’m familiar with or from someone who I know to be more in-tune with the catalogs than myself… which is a lot of you guys here.

With that said… perhaps we might finally have a purpose for bringing the gaming club public again? I always thought it was a great idea, but we never really invested the time into implementing it the way we did other features. It could serve as a great landing page for recommendations, co-op, or any other number of community-oriented stuff.
