Multi What games have you played in the year 2023?

I've been playing a buttload of games this year compared to like any of year in my life and I don't think I've ever beaten this many games in a year so I wanted to talk a little bit about it. Here's all the stuff I got through this year:

Super Mario Sunshine (Switch)
Spyro the Dragon (PSX)
Spyro the Dragon: Ripto's Rage (PSX)
Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne (PS5)
The Last of Us 2 (PS4)
Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX)
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War (PSX)
Five Nights at Freddy's (PS5)
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (PS5)
Five Nights at Freddy's 3 (PS5)
Snatcher (SegaCD)
Tactics Ogre Reborn (Switch)
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (GCN)
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (Switch)
Xenoblade Chronicles Future Connected (Switch)
Tears of the Kingdom (Switch)
Metal Gear Solid 3 (PS2)
Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS3)
L.A. Noire (PS5)
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (GBC-Switch)
Pokemon Trading Card Game (GBC-Switch)
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon (PS5)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Switch)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)
Lies of P (PS5)
FAITH: The Unholy Trilogy (PC)
Final Fantasy XVI (PS5)
Final Fantasy XII (Switch)
Inscryption (Switch)
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly (PS2)
Control (PS5)
Alan Wake Remaster (PS5)
Alan Wake 2 (PS5)
Final Fantasy XI (PC)
Chrono Trigger (SNES)

Out of all of these, here are the ones that really blew me away: Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, Snatcher, Tactics Ogre Reborn, MGS2, Armored Core VI, MGS4, Lies of P, FAITH, Fatal Frame II, Control, Alan Wake 2, and Chrono Trigger.

Those are a lot of games but man I played so many GOOD games this year. I love how even after all of this time, there's such good gems out there. Even among new games in a world where I'm disheartened by the way game design is going, there's really good shit out there like Lies of P, Armored Core VI, and Alan Wake 2. Gaming has never been better

I spent most of the year revisiting games I'd previously played to get platinums. In terms of new games this year, I think this is my list:

Marvel's Spider-Man (PS5)
Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3 (Switch)
Metroid Prime (Switch)
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS5)
The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (Switch)
Metroid Fusion (Switch)
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch)
Kirby's Dream Land (Switch)
Kirby's Dream Land 2 (Switch)
WWE 2K23 (PS5)
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (Switch)

I'm hoping to change this a bit next year, but we'll see because I have a few long plats ahead of me for games I've already played.

Games I actually  beat this year:

1. Assassin's Creed: Rogue
2. Marvel's Midnight Suns
3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
4. Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
5. WarioWare, Inc. Mega Microgame$
6. Diablo IV
7. Marvel Snap (I count getting to infinite as completion)
8. Halo: Fireteam Raven
9. Mortal Kombat 1
10. Like a Dragon: Ishin!
11. Spider-Man Remastered
12. Spider-Man: Miles Morales
13. Spider-Man 2

I played a ton more than that but I rarely see games through to the end. I used to only finish 2-3 a year until I started cataloging my completions and I set an annual goal to finish at least 1 more game than the previous year.

Mission accomplished this year.

Not sure if you use the website howlongtobeat.com, but you can put your collection on there and some other details about it, and I tend to find it pretty addictive to see the games I've beat grow, as well as the games per system.

I actually did mess around with that once. I should get back to it...

According to my Steam recap I played Elden Ring, Rogue Legacy 2, Civ 6, Holocure, and Binding of Isaac the most. Says I played Undertale in January so that must've been when I tried my first genocide run (gave up at Sans). Played Death Road to Canada and 7 Days to Die for the first time, the former more than once (not big on sandbox survival). Aside from that it's mostly just multiplayer stuff I always play like Jackbox.

Booting up my Switch it looks like:
Metroid Prime Remastered
Shantae and the Seven Sirens
Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Sonic Superstars

Not sure if it was this or last year but I also played through Super Mario Land 1 and 2 for the first time. Was interesting.
Tried out WoW Classic for the first time for about a month because of some streamers I watch doing stuff. Also interesting.
Pretty sure it was this year that I did my second playthrough of Paper Mario 64 since it's on Switch now. Classic game everyone should play (Switch port does get a bit laggy at a certain part so be wary if that's something that would bother you).
Checked out the new Mario Kart maps for a bit recently.

Think that's about it. Nothing else significant comes to mind. Trying to beat Elden Ring currently.

Games I've beat in 2023:

Lords of the Fallen
Blasphemous
Sea of Stars
Undertale
Rogue Legacy 2
TMNT: Shredders Revenge
Kingdom Hearts Series
The Quarry

List of games I played this year with my score. With a few explanations

SMT 3 Nocturn: C
Ogre Battle 64: B- (I did DNF it because of clunky controls and slow speed even with Turbo)
Persona 5 Royal: A
Like a Dragon Ishin: B+
Outer Worlds: B
Sea of Stars: C
Fire EMblem Genealogy of the Holy War: B+ (DNF sadly due to slowness even with turbo. Foot units take forever to move and if you want an even leveled party or back up for mounted units you just wait and wait. Great story though)
Ace Attorney Investigations: C
DIsco Elysium: C+ (wanted more detective work and less political and philosophical manifestos)
AA Apollo Justice: B-
AA Dual Destinies: B
AA Spirit of Justice B+
Ghost Trick: A-
Great Ace Attorney: DNF
AA Investigations 2: DNF Both it and Great AA are just too slow, and verbose. Also didnt connect with the characters
Ghost of Tsushima: B+
Bayonetta 2: B
Super Mario Odyssey: C/DNF (way too easy, great for kids first mario but thats it. Mario controls amazingly though)
Bowser's Fury: A-
The Messenger: B-
Super Mario Wonder: A-

Currently Playing: Oriental Blue and Baldurs Gate 3

I haven't played an Armoured Core since the original. Do I need to play through the series or could I pick up VI and all make sense?

@GwJumpman

What did you think of Snatcher? I loved it, it is dated in some of the mechanics, but the music and art direction was top notch and really enjoyed the story.

You should check out Policenaugts, it has a ps1 (and maybe saturn) fan translation, better gameplay, fun story too.
I LOVED snatcher. In a huge Phoenix Wright fan and Snatcher was super similar. Soundtrack was also excellent and the story itself was pretty sweet. I know of Psychonauts but never played it, it's on the list though

I didnt even realize who I was responding too, I just saw you quoted by someone else and saw Snatcher there, of course you enjoyed it now seeing your avatar which I asked you about the other day!
