if you didn't know there was a Video Game History Foundation, there is, and they do amazing work. one of my favorite offerings (even if i no longer subscribe to it) is a subscription where they send you an old video game magazine each month. it was magic.

well, they've taken it to the next level.

it's not exhaustive (yet), but there are already hundreds of magazines and other things to thumb through. i particularly like going through the magazines and realizing just how far games journalism has come. here are some fun things from just one 2003 issue of EGM

As I once called out in answer to a teacher's question during a media studies class around 11 years old, "Sex sells!"

It's wild just how raunchy game ads used to be, though. They were 100% aiming for young men and that was it.

Cheney definitely would have played with friendly fire turned on.

Even archiving OXM, I had that from the preview issue through to about 2010. Saved them all and then ditched them. They were neat.

I love that people archive things like this :)
