I have not played an MMORPG since.. uh, Ultima Online.

This game has been on my radar for a LONG time and it's now rumoured it'll have a 2024 release year.

Anyone heard of it? Keeping an eye on it?

For those who aren't aware:

Never heard of this one before!

Trailer's not being super helpful here having CG blended in - there was some insanely impractical foliage and water effects in some of those cuts :chuckle - but it might be fun. All going to depend on how well the game handles latency, and how much emphasis there is on parry/dodging. I could see the disillusioned PSO2 base giving this a whirl if it's similar enough.

Curious how the time mechanic will end up working in practice, too. Being able to hold enemies still for several seconds is always extraordinarily powerful. šŸ¤”

I'm shocked you've never heard of it.

The soulslike combat is what's grabbing me right now, big shocker I know. Also something about the soundtrack on this trailer just hits for me.

I always worry about latency for online games.

The time control mechanic intrigues me greatly.

I'm also nervous of a high monthly fee.

I am basically never clued in on MMOs/Live Services/Gachas and avoid them like the plague. I just play(ed) XI, XIV and PSO2 'cause I like those series. :chuckle

Oh man, if this ain't F2P/one-time-purchase it's so dead on arrival! šŸ˜°

WoW can do it 'cause it's WoW, Square can somewhat do it 'cause "Final Fantasy." Everybody else gotta suck it up and just sell cosmetics and boosters. There's too much free competition; XIV capped out at ~1.5 million "active" characters (not accounts) over a 3-ish month period at its absolute peak. Numbers a lot of games put up in a single day/week without breaking a sweat in this scary modern age.

You're like the holy grail of game knowledge to me though, you know a lot about a lot of games and the biggest reason I know what's coming out is you.

If there is a monthly fee or necessary microtransanctions I will be immensely disappointed for the reasons you said.

I see so much potential in this game.

I refuse to get into MMOs. Too repetitive for me. It's like a full-time job. The Monster Hunter-style combat looks interesting, but I also hate Monster Hunter for how grindy and repetitive it can be wrt drops. If Monster Hunter were just a liiiiiiittle less Japanese, I think I'd love it.

Monster Hunter is an interesting franchise to me. I put a ton of time into World but mainly because I could play with up to 3 players at a time.

I'm realizing I'm becoming less and less of a single player gamer.
