I have covid for the first time.

we thought it was just a bad cold with some lingering effects. then we got high and ate popsicles that we both agreed didn't have much taste, and made the realization. (still not convinced I have no taste, maybe just diminished atm)

oh boy. I'm on the tail end of it I think, so that's good at least. but makes life difficult still.

any one have 100% guidelines on how long we need to isolate?

I started feeling sick Sunday afternoon. is it 5 days from that point? 5 days from when I no longer have symptoms? 5 days from positive test?

I can't seem to get a clear answer.

Been hearing about quite a few of people catching this latest round, mostly people around our age. Get well soon, dude.

That sucks! Glad to hear it was mild though. Here's hoping there's no lingering side effects.

I thought the current variants didn't affect taste/smell that much, beyond what clogged sinuses typically would.
which is what I think it is. I think the food just tastes a little muted becsuse of the sickness, I can still taste it.

My work has updated guidelines. Basically, you can come to work with covid or covid symptoms if you feel like you can work lol. If not, normal sick day guidelines apply. Exception is if you get properly tested and haven't used your alloted 3 times covid allowance, you will be paid for your time.

So yay. Maybe I'll be (un)lucky and get it now.

Laaaaaaame. Fingers crossed it's not actually COVID and I hope you all get over whatever it is quickly.

I've never tested positive for COVID, despite others in my house getting positive tests and me also getting symptoms. My youngest son was born at home on Christmas morning, because my partner decided to wait to wake me up until about 20 minutes before he was on his way out. After delivering him, having about 13 fire fighters in our bedroom and them taking my wife out on a stretcher, no one thought to put a mask on her when she went into the hospital, so she caught it immediately after delivering. Quarantine with a new born is a fresh kind of hell.

I think I misread your "which is what I think it is" reply as meaning you thought it was a bad cold. To be fair, I also think I forgot the start of the thread by the time I'd scrolled to the bottom, so that's on me.
lol yeah, I meant I think the distorted taste is the congestion rather than the covid.

One of the many reasons I'm glad I work from home. People should keep their germs to themselves!

Agree I don't care whether it's COVID, a cold, a stomach bug or anything else if I see you in the office and you're sick I don't want to know you. Thank god I only go once a day.

Every second week when I go to the office I bring something home that gets my fiance sick.

As a teacher for a company, we often feel pressured to come into work even when we're sick. It's such an awful policy. I remember my last principal (acting) once encouraged people to come in by saying he had never taken a sick day in his life, and he was only a year away from retirement. What a pitiable thing to say, I thought.

I've had COVID three times so far. Finally lost my sense of taste the last time, just recently. The hospital here refused to test me, so that's why there's currently officially 0 cases in Saudi Arabia 😊

Did you at least get your sense of taste back?

Yeah I should be clear it's not always the people I get annoyed at but the lack of clarity from their leaders to say if you're sick please stay home. Especially when we are a completely hybrid work place.

I got it back after about 5 or 6 days.

When I get sick, I stay home. The problem is that if I'm not sick enough I can't justify staying home, as important as that is. Now I mask up, let people know visibly that I'm sick, and go into work.

Very glad to hear you can still taste. My cousin's fiancee lost her sense of taste in the first time they had covid and wasn't able to taste peanut butter for a year.

I remember you telling me something like this long before I got it the time I lost my taste, and I was shitting myself when it finally happened

Yeah it was crazy. Also pretty funny that when she finally started to get it back that she just kept a jar of peanut butter on her desk with a spoon because it was then one of her most powerful available tastes.

I got covid last October and I was still able to taste but my sense of smell disappeared over night. I would use a bag of coffee beans to check if it came back. Took about two weeks to be back to normal.

What didn't get back to normal. I had a persistent cough for like two months, and it was worst at night time. And now anytime I get a cold (and my son is in kindergarten and my daughter in a day home so that's almost always) I get a cough that lasts at least a month.

Same. The cough was just finally starting to go away when I caught it again. I haven't caught anything since then, but I had to completely give up smoking pot because one hit now gives me a vicious cough that lasts for days. Idk what exactly that shit does to have side effects that last for so long, but it sucks.

I think I've heard covid can cause damage to the lungs, but I don't know if that's my situation, since once the cough does clear I have no issues.

Not covid, but I got super sick after traveling abroad around 2017 and a wicked painful cough that lasted more than a month. I thought maybe I was still sick and eventually went to the doctor. She said the coughing was probably irritating my lungs/throat which was causing more coughing, rather than still being sick. Kind of sounded like bullshit at the time given the constant coughing in itself was making me feel terrible, but she gave me some special cough suppressant taken as a pill, and miraculously the impossible cough indeed disappeared over 2 or 3 days. If only I had known the cure for the coughing was to simply stop coughing.. 😂 Maybe worth trying next time it persists for a really long time.
