Unfortunately I did not. Unless I find myself leaving from the cities at least a good hour+ away, I can't see anything small like that.Me too! I still remember the first time I camped waaay out in the middle of nowhere and realized what I'd been missing my whole life.
Did you get to see the perseid meteor shower at all?
Years ago I went up into way northern Canada. And during a well deserved winter walk outside and piss moment. I saw the northern lights and had an epiphany.random anecdote:
I used to like the stars and space as a kid. At some point in my adult years, I started thinking they were a lot less impressive, and I didn't know why.
Fast forward many years later, I finally went to the eye doctor and got glasses (my eyes aren't *bad*, but distance was getting rougher and I have a stygmatism.)
Anyway, the first clear night I went outside with my glasses on and saw the stars, I nearly cried. I know that sounds lame, but I truly did forget how beautiful and vast it really is.
I had to drive over an hour to find anywhere dark enough to see anything, which especially sucked driving back home late at night, but it was totally worth it. I'm going to try to plan ahead next year and book a campsite near the peak so I don't have to drive.Unfortunately I did not. Unless I find myself leaving from the cities at least a good hour+ away, I can't see anything small like that.
I know every now and then some cities turn their lights off for a random period of time to showcase the skies.
