Anyone here by chance dabble with telescopes for astronomy? I have a Celestron 130slt myself. Just curious if anyone else is a space junkie.

I don't have a telescope, but I do like looking at the stars and whatnot. Unfortunately here it's either cloudy or light out past my bedtime, so I don't get to do it much (and where I live has a lot of light pollution).

What're some interesting things you've seen?

Lotta light pollution where I am too. Smack dab near the twin cities. But I can get some cool pictures of the moon occasionally but I have been fortunate enough to see jupiter and it's bands along with Saturn and it's rings. The idea of space just gets me jazzed up like no other.

Me too! I still remember the first time I camped waaay out in the middle of nowhere and realized what I'd been missing my whole life.

Did you get to see the perseid meteor shower at all?
Unfortunately I did not. Unless I find myself leaving from the cities at least a good hour+ away, I can't see anything small like that.

I know every now and then some cities turn their lights off for a random period of time to showcase the skies.

random anecdote:

I used to like the stars and space as a kid. At some point in my adult years, I started thinking they were a lot less impressive, and I didn't know why.

Fast forward many years later, I finally went to the eye doctor and got glasses (my eyes aren't *bad*, but distance was getting rougher and I have a stygmatism.)

Anyway, the first clear night I went outside with my glasses on and saw the stars, I nearly cried. I know that sounds lame, but I truly did forget how beautiful and vast it really is.

Years ago I went up into way northern Canada. And during a well deserved winter walk outside and piss moment. I saw the northern lights and had an epiphany.

Ever since the skies and space have enspired me. Some folks are so focused on trivial things when out there is just so vast.

I had to drive over an hour to find anywhere dark enough to see anything, which especially sucked driving back home late at night, but it was totally worth it. I'm going to try to plan ahead next year and book a campsite near the peak so I don't have to drive.
