I am enjoying it, I dont think I like it more than SOTN or Aria of Sorrows though
I definitely agree that those 2 are in the discussion. SOTN was my clear favorite before Ritual of the Night, but it's a toss-up now.

Did you play Curse of the Moon, by chance?

I really liked that too. Not as much as Castlevania III, which it clearly emulates, but it's close.

I have not, only played SotN and Aria

Also loved bloodlines, need to retry IV and Rondo of Blood

This thread title is so accurate. Metroid games are weird because I don't love them when I start, but the more abilities I unlock, the more fun it becomes. The double jump and the spinning jump one are the two best.

Yep, it can be a little frustrating at first, but man it so addictive getting a new skill

Sadly my double jump isnt getting to a few places I thought it would, either need to unlock something else or upgrade the shard (dont have the ingredients yet), but it does make combat more fun and I can still get to some new places

Curse of the Moon is one of my all-time favorite games. The sequel is really good too but not quite as magical as the first.

I've got the sequel in box but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet...
excited open it GIF

A sort of major gripe i have with bloodstained is the ability to go under water is a shard drop from an enemy you can barely even fight. I am sure the first shard one has a high probability, but I had to kill a three or four to get it, and only knew Because I googled it as I was tired of hitting dead ends

Now maybe it was a journal entry I missed, as I have stopped reading them because 95% of them have been useless to me

Finished Bloodstained, really enjoyed it

I like it more than Aria of Sorrow, but not as much as SOTN. There is a certain charm to SOTN that Bloodstained just doent have. Hard to really put into words why I like SotN more, I do feel the monsters are better designed and cooler to look at most of the time. Also while neither is a story powerhouse, SotN's campyness felt genuine where Bloodstained feels a bit more forced and cheap.

Also not sure whose idea it was to make breaking down items take an item. Maybe it was balance? But kept me from breaking down stuff unless I needed the materials.

Yeah that's a good point about the camp.

SotN's tone comes off as genuine, if a bit silly. Bloodstained is clearly trying to recreate that feel so it's a bit artificial.

They're extremely close in my book but I prefer Bloodstained's boss fights and "ending" (to avoid spoilers) more so I give it a slight edge over SotN.

But understand that before Bloodstained came out, the idea of giving another SotN-like game that kind of praise was near sacrilegious to me.
