So this is from 2009, I was going to create a Dexter Mafia with a super complicated setup. This is incomplete, as the game never actually got started, but maybe people would find it interesting either A: to have me run at some point, or B: could find some ideas for future games.

Some of this probably sounds stupid, and I was probably going WAY overboard on the complicated scale, but I'm very curious what people would have thought about this style of game.

Here is the text file from my computer unedited, this is how I wrote it up 14 fucking years ago. Lemme know what you guys think.

Town lynching = someone being given the death penalty. Town known as "Jury" instead of "Town". Majority of voting population required to lynch.

Night kills get RITUAL/MO descriptions to let players figure out who killed them.

Good Guys:

Deb - Will see the night action of whoever she investigates. --- OR will see who her target visited, and who visited them. Dexter will appear as a townie to her.
Angel - Protector, can detain one person per night, that person can't be killed, but also can't use any night actions.
Laguerta - Mayor/Governor can free *TWO PEOPLE* from being given the death penalty during a day phase. Maybe something else at some point.
Dexter - Knows who Bay Harbor Butcher is. Detective role, must find someone that is guilty before the Bay Harbor Butcher can kill them. *WILL APPEAR AS GUILTY IF INVESTIGATED* Dies if BHB dies.
Ramon Prado - drunken vigilante. *IF MIGUEL PRADO DIES* Ramon becomes activated, his goal becomes to kill the person who killed Miguel. At night he can submit a name to me, if that person is the person who killed Miguel, he will receive a YES and that person will be killed. If he is not the person, he receives a NO and can try again the next day. If he targets someone under Lilas "guilt-cloud", he will receive a YES and will kill that person. If he kills the wrong person under these circumstances, he loses his ability. Knows who Miguel is, and can/should try and prevent him from being lynched. If MIguel is lynched, Ramon loses all power(s).

Extra Roles:
Masuka - Can investigate deaths to find out additional information possibly aiming at who may have killed them.
Special Agent Lundy
Harry
Rita - Martyr, someone kills her, Dexter will kill them.

Killers:
Rudy/Ice Truck Killer - Knows who both Dexter and BHB are, but is not allowed to vote for either of them or kill them. Probably a delayed kill role, abducts one night, next night drains, third night they die. Victim can't talk once abducted.
George King/The Skinner - Can kill every third night, but he tortures first, learning some of the information that his victim knows. (Who they investigated, or who else that person knows, things of that nature.)
Lila - Maybe can make people look guilty by doing something to them at night for a certain period of time, but can't actually kill.
Emmett Meridian - (Psychiatrist that gets people to kill themselves.) Emmett gets a list of half the townies, unknown to him. He has to choose when to vote for someone. When he votes for someone, that person will seek his counselling. If that person is on his list, that person dies.
Jorge and Valerie Castillo - combined "free mason" type role, combined power of silencing one person for a day by abducting them.
Little Chino - the huge tattooed henchmen, at night, he can bully any player into voting for someone he chooses in the next day phase. Submits his target, and the person they have to vote for.
Billy Fleeter - Gambler/hitman for the mob. 5 times throughout the game, he can decide that all kills that night will have "no evidence", mening what happens to them won't be announced.

Extra roles:
Ken Olson - The wannabe vigilante trying to be like Dexter. 50/50 chance of his kill failing and victim getting away, can only kill every 3 days.
Paul Bennett - Ritas ex husband,

Matt Chambers - drunk driver.
Jeremy Downs - teenager killer kid.
Carlos Guerrrero - Drug lord/mafia boss.
Roger Hicks - car salesmen, women
Billy Fleeter - gambler/hitman for the mob.

Neutral:
Bay Harbor Butcher - Knows who Dexter is, can only kill if Dexter finds someone that's guilty. *WILL APPEAR AS GUILTY IF INVESTIGATED* Dies if Dexter dies.

Miguel Prado - Killer can kill once every 4 night phases, has a list of every person in the game that has a role, not knowing if they are good or bad. But his goal is to kill the people he perceives have done evil. Killers, and maybe some good guys if I can figure out how. Penalized for killing Dexter/BHB.

Doakes - Only goal is to kill Dexter, need a way to prevent mindless killing. Maybe he quits law enforcement/turns himself in/leaves the game if he kills someone other than Dexter/Bay Harbor Butcher. -- Receives a certain amount of "chances" (based on the game size), if he tries to kill someone that isn't Dexter/BHB he gets a repreive. But once his chances are gone, a wrong kill ends his game. ===== Possible alternative, his goal is to get Dexter LYNCHED/death penalty, he knows who Dexter is and tries to get him lynched.

EAlright, as I said, I intend to try some new things. So I hope people will keep somewhat of an open mind and give this game a chance. If it fails, you can tell me I told you so later.

Everything contained within this post is subject to change before the official start of the game. Vash will be cohosting so he might have a few ideas. Some stuff will also be left out that I don't quite know yet.

A Few Rules and Information:
  1. In the spirit of the theme of this game, daily lynchings will not be lynchings. Instead they will be essentially court trials. If you're voted out, you're given the death penalty and are executed! In that sense, the town will be henceforce known as THE JURY. (Note: still everyone gets to vote, of course, not just townies.)
  2. Jury decisions will only be awarded to a VOTING MAJORITY. Not a majority of the town, but the majority of the players who VOTE during that day phase is required for the decision to be carried out. Otherwise the vote fails.
  3. Voting will NOT be mandatory during any day phase. Activity will be counted by posts (only one necessary, but I'll ignore "HEY I'M HERE" type posts. Activity posts will be counted by actually participating.)
  4. As usual, 3 days of not posting (starting DAY ONE) will have you removed from this game regardless of role.
  5. Some roles will be recast if they are removed for inactivity, major roles only, minor roles will be left to dead.
  6. When someone dies during the night, when I post the results, there will be a description of the modus operandi of the killer. People familiar with Dexter will have an easier time deciphering these, but they are welcome to share their findings with the town. This will allow a little bit more suspense in figuring out who killed someone.
  7. Since some night actions will counteract other night actions, results of night actions will not be delivered until just before the day phase opens so as to prevent people from receiving extra information.

Miami Metro Police Department (The Good Guys):
  • Blood Spatter Analyst, Dexter Morgan: Dexter Morgan is a normal guy, highly intelligent and great at his job. He works in the forensics department at Miami Metro as a blood spatter analyst. In this game, he will act as your primary detective. At night he may submit a name to me who he wishes to investigate, he will find a result of "GUILTY" or "INNOCENT".
Notes: Dexter knows the identity of the Bay Harbor Butcher. Dexter must use his forensic ability to find the identity of the serial killers and villains, and give those names to the Bay Harbor Butcher for elimination.
Dexter will always appear as GUILTY to any investigation. If the Bay Harbor Butcher dies, Dexter will die as well. Angels protection will also effect both parties.
Goals: To use his ability to help Bay Harbor Butcher eliminate all the villains in Miami.
  • Detective Deborah Morgan: Deborah Morgan is Dexters sister and one of the only people Dexter truly feels strongly about. (**Her role is not yet defined, however it will be some kind of detective style role, likely that she will either see the night action of whoever she visits, or she will see who visited that person, and who that person visited.**)
Goals: To keep Dexter safe and to have all the villains of the town given the death penalty (or killed).
  • Sergeant Angel Batista: Angel is a good cop, with a big heart. In this game he will serve the role as supreme protector. At night, he may submit a name to me. That person will be protected from the night actions of any villainous member of the town. However, his detainee will also not be able to use ANY night actions he may or may not have.
Goals: His goal is to see all villains be given the death penalty (or killed.)
  • Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta: LaGuerta is the head of the Miami Metro department and is a good cop with a bit too much political aspirations. In this game she will serve as the mayor or governor of Miami. Twice during the course of the game she will be allowed to give anyone she chooses a stay of execution if they are voted guilty by the Jury. The death penalty will not be carried out and the player will remain in the game.
Goals: Her goal is for herself to be alive at the end of the game at all costs, and for the villains in the game to be given the death penalty (or be killed.)
  • County Sheriff Lieutenant Ramon Prado (Retired): Angered over the death of his brother Oscar, Ramon began operating outside of protocol and the law, aided of course by his heavy drinking. He's desperate to insure that his remaining brother Miguel remains alive. In this game he will work somewhat as a drunken vigilante. He becomes active ONLY if Miguel Prado is killed in the game. If Miguel is killed, Ramon may submit to me a name of a person he wishes to investigate. He will receive an answer of NO if the person he investigates is not responsible for the death of Miguel, or he will receive the answer YES if that person IS responsible. If they are responsible, Ramon will kill them in revenge of his lost brother.
Notes: Ramon knows who his brother Miguel is, and will do whatever it takes to keep him alive, including preventing him from being given the death penalty throughout the game. If Miguel is lynched, Ramon loses all of his power.
If Miguel dies, and Ramon than tries to investigate someone under the power of Lila Tournay, he will mistake them for Miguels murderer and kill him. If this unfortunate set of circumstances happen, Ramon will lose his ability.
Goals: To keep his brother Miguel alive, or short of that, to avenge his death by killing the person who killed Miguel.

Extra Good Guy Roles If Needed: (Meaning will be activated if we get a certain amount of people. Roles partially or not at all complete, obviously will be if they become active.)
Lead Forensics Investigator Vince Masuka: He would be able to investigate the death of anyone that died the previous night and gain additional information about his killer. (I'd basically just give him bullsh*t clues that will lead him to the person.)
FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy: (no idea exactly what I'd use him as, possibly some sort of advanced detective that can find out exact roles. I don't know yet.)
Rita Bennett: Dexters girlfriend, she will be a martyr of sorts, in that if she is killed by someone that evening. That person will be killed by Dexter/Bay Harbor Butcher the next evening.
Harry Morgan: Dexters deceased father, if he joins the game he'll likely be as some sort of specialized protection role that maybe only works for Dexter/BHB.

The Serial Killers of Miami Florida, and Their Helpers! (The Bad Guys):
  • Brian Moser/The Ice Truck Killer: Dexters brother and scurge of Miami. Brian is a serial killer that, like Dexter, is meticulous in his work and highly intelligent and skilled in his craft. He is a killer that kills without mercy, and may kill once every third night. On the first night he may submit to me a name of a person he wishes to abduct. The next night he will spend that evening draining their body of blood, and the third night he will kill them. They will be found dead the next morning. Once abducted, however, his victim is essentially out of the game and will not be allowed to post in the thread or use any night actions available to him/her. Starting the following night after his victim is found dead, he may begin the process over again.
Notes: Brian knows the identity of both Dexter Morgan and the Bay Harbor Butcher. However he loves his brother and wishes no harm. He is not allowed to vote for either of them, and he is not allowed to abduct/kill them.
Goals: His goal is for Dexter to kill someone that is actually innocent. Either someone that is masked by Lila, or has not yet killed someone in the game. He would also like to stay alive, and does not care if any of the villains around him have been killed.
  • George W. King/The Skinner: George King (Jorge Orosco) was a high ranking member of the Nicaraguan Army. A brutal leader with a knack for torture. Starting NIGHT TWO he may submit to me a name of a person he wishes to capture. The next night he will torture the victim to find out pieces of information, specifically any direct game information they have related to who they have investigated most recently. (Applies to Dexter, Deborah, Ramon, and Emmett Meridian.)
Goals: His goals are for 51% or more of the villains to still be alive at the end of the game, including himself.
  • Emmett Meridian: Emmett was a psychiatrist that convinced women life wasn't worth living and told them how to commit suicide. Emmett will have a list of a certain number of townies, the female roles and a portion of the regular townies (that he doesn't see, I'll keep ahold of it), during the day, whoever he votes for will come to him for counseling that evening. If they are on his list, he will convince them that night to kill themselves and they are dead. If not on his list, it is a normal psychiatrist visit, but he may find out some clues as to their guilt or innocence.
Goals: His goals are for all the female roles in the game to be dead by the end of the game.
  • Lila Tournay: A disturbed young women who meets Dexter in a Narcotics Anonymous class and senses something deeply wrong with him. But she falls in love, and soon turns from lover to stalker. Upon rejection from Dexter, she gets involved with Angel and ultimately sets him up to look as though he raped her. She discovered she has a knack for it, therefore. Starting night 1, she may submit to me a name of a person which she would like to set up. For the remainder of that night phase as well as the following two, that person will appear as guilty to anyone that tries to investigate them.
Goals: (**Her goals are not yet completely defined, but they will likely have to do with the safety of Dexter and the death of the good guys. If Rita is activated in this game, she will be specifically out to get her as well.**)
  • Jorge Castillo: Jorge and his wife Valerie are human traffickers, known for killing the people whose families refuse to pay up. In this game they will serve as somewhat evil masons that can kidnap people for a day phase. Working together they may submit to me each night the name of a person who they wish to keep silent for the next day phase. That person can not post or vote in the game or they will be removed from it.
Notes: He knows who Valerie Castillo is.
Goals: For his wife to be alive at the end of the game, and for the good guys to be dead.
  • Valerie Castillo: Valerie and her husband Jorge are human traffickers, known for killing the people whose families refuse to pay up. In this game they will serve as somewhat evil masons that can kidnap people for a day phase. Working together they may submit to me each night the name of a person who they wish to keep silent for the next day phase. That person can not post or vote in the game or they will be removed from it.
Notes: She knows who Jorge Castillo is.
Goals: For her husband to be alive at the end of the game, and for the good guys to be dead.
  • Little Chino: Member of the 29 Street Kings, he's a massive tattooed bully that can be surprisingly intelligent in his actions. As a bully, he can get other people to do nearly whatever he says. At night, Chino may submit to me a name of a person he wishes to target, and a person he would like to have them vote for. The VERY NEXT day phase, his victim must at some point cast a vote for the person Little Chino chooses. They can decide however they want to cast the vote, but they MUST cast the vote that next day phase.
Goals: For the good guys to be dead.
  • Billy Fleeter: Billy is a gambler turned hitman for the mafia to pay off his debts. For the purpose of this game, however, he will be more of a protector to the villains. 4 times throughout the course of the game, he may submit to me a decision of "TONIGHT", during that night phase, any kill that takes place will be spotless of any and all evidence. Masuka (if activated) will find nothing, the next days opening will have no details of the persons death, and Deborah will not be able to *do whatever she does to them*.
Goals: For the good guys to be dead.

Alright, firstly everyone who joins should know I like to run my mafia games a little differently. I'm a big fan of the intelligent style games, not the random style games. That said, I prefer to not have "secret" roles or "secret" agendas, I like to outline the rules I intend to use, and let it play out with thought and intrigue, rather than blind luck.

I also doubt I'll be writing very long stories before or after day phases, I like to let the story play out in the game, not with my writing. Writing stories sometimes hints at information that is not fair for me to release. So most of the time, you'll get a little line, make a slightly comical one-liner and the results. Nothing more.

But the game should still be fun, those of you familiar with TravisTouchdowns Batman Mafia saw how intriguingly the game played out without a unified mafia. This is something I think I will be trying.

So here's the basics of how the game will be set up, and if you'd like to join (or have any questions) feel free to post in the thread and we'll have a nice Dexter style game!

WARNING: The roles of the game will require knowledge of all three of the first seasons of Dexter, I will avoid using knowledge from the current (4th season), but if you're a Dexter fan and don't wish to be spoiled on previous seasons, this game may not be for you.

Also for the record, you won't necessarily need to be a Dexter fan to participate. The roles will be clearly explained.

    So:

The good guys will, of course, not know each other, and will consist of policemen, maybe some other main characters directly associated with Dexter, and a few other fun surprises.

The bad guys will also NOT know who each other are. (Unless I create some specific "joint" roles), and will mostly consist of the serial killers that have been seen throughout Dexters history, again, with more surprises thrown in.

Unlike TTs Batman mafia, there will not be any sort of unified goal for the villains. Instead, they will all have independent goals they need to survive. Some of them may need other villains to accomplish those goals, but their goals will be independent.

I look forward to all of you playing!

    Good luck!

NOTICE: I just want people to know, I plan to try a few new things with this game. Not just with the roles, but with the rules and how the game plays. Some people might not like them, some people might think they're terrible ideas. If the game completely bombs, you can say I told you so. But if you join, try and keep an open mind. Hopefully my ideas will make for an exciting game!

I'm interested, but I think I'd like the roles to be cut down to a smaller subset for the first game. I'm not experienced in Mafia games in general and it feels overwhelming.
yeah it would have to be refined. or more than likely someone uses it for inspiration for their own game.

I like all those mini roles that have effects on other people beyond just "lol u ded". Like Little Chino is great. I got no clue if an ability like that already exists in wolf games but I approve of this. It's always nice to have your vanilla townies getting some minor things to do as well instead of just reading and voting. Multiple factions and killers are nice, but you of course need the people for a full roster to take advantage of that.

I am so in if you make this an actual game!

I concur with the others about editing it down. You see how much confusion there is with the current wolf game and maybe 1/10 as much reading. But the good thing is you have so much written already, so you can just pick out your favorite old stuff and also draw from five more seasons plus New Blood and make it even more awesome :link

yeah. I dunno if people read all of it, it's long, but I mention a few times it's very unrefined. I basically just got the idea one day and then splattered out whatever I could.

if I ever ran it I would bring it WAY down

Can the winning goal for everyone be voting out the people who made the last season of the show?
Funny thing is, as much as people hate the way the show ended, it’s one of the few examples of a tv or movie adaptation that actually stayed kind of true to the source material.

Specifically that the way it ended in the show was pretty much how it ended in the books.

I'd love to be involved if this gets off the ground. Would you add in later seasons as well, now that the show is over?
I don't know. I know the first 3 seasons best, but there might be something interesting yo grab for the later seasons.

the last season of the show is *fine* the last episode is..
a little weird, and seemed out of place. but I still love the series.
