My Bicycle Card Collection

Some of you may remember my Bicycle Card Collection, I posted it on GW a few different times. It has since expanded, is more organized now, and also cataloged.

photo_2023-07-11_13-22-31.jpg
Those are the "basic" cards, they're all variations on the standard deck (I realize how blurry this is, but I was too lazy to check the pictures as I posted them, you get the idea, oh well). But all of these are variations on the standard decks. My favorites are the "weathered" ones, the Series 1800 are technically not original Bicycle, but are a part of a program where Bicycle lets you create your own deck, but they're incredible, and the three above those two are also "weathered" and look really cool.

photo_2023-07-11_13-22-26.jpg
These ones are mostly standard decks, but with other back designs, there's nothing terribly unique about the faces of the cards other than maybe some differing colors, but they all have unique back designs. Tom got me the Silver Steam-Punk one at the top, and both of those are my collective favorite in this group. The box feels awesome, and the cards look great.

photo_2023-07-11_13-22-28.jpg
These are the "unique" cards. Almost every single deck in here has unique backs AND unique fronts in some form or another. For example, the Dark Mode (pixel) deck has all the numbers and suits formed out of pixels. Or the Zombie deck (the white one, which Tom bought me), each card has a "tip" to survive a zombie apocalypse. It's very hard to choose which of these are my favorite. The Dark Mode deck is cool, so is the Zombie deck, the 50-80s decade decks all have trivia from that decade on it, and can be very fun.

photo_2023-07-11_13-22-34.jpg
This last one includes non-Bicycle Branded decks. The two sets of prestige decks come with special cases, and have much more of a durable plastic feel to them, then the more "papery" feel of normal cards. the Playstation Cards come in that big tin, the Pixel Cards are some of my favorites overall, both the fronts and backs are designed as pixels, but on a transparent background. So it looks like you can see through the card, but they obscure themselves. Dr Pepper and United Airlines are both vintage decks that were gifted to me, found online or at yard sales. and the Hero Decks (they have them for all major sports, and most major towns), are famous Red Sox players through the years.

For those that might be really curiouis, here's the full list (I have a few friends that like to get me cards if they spot them at a store, so I alphabetized a list so they'd have a single source of ones I don't have.

I am not a card collector, but I can definitely appreciate a GOOD deck of cards. These are the ones that I have been using recently.

These are made by Theory 11, which I believe is the same company as Bicycle? I could be wrong. You should definitely pick up a pack or two and try them out. They handle very nicely!

What got you into collecting cards? Is it mainly just Bicycle cards?

This collection is very cool for real. Going by looks alone, I like the Nautic ones the best.
I love poker, I love magic, and decks of cards are relatively cheap. I used to always carry around a deck just to do tricks.

it is mainly Bicycle, yeah, but if I see cool ones that strike my fancy elsewhere ill grab them.

1. This is an oddly specific collection, and I always think those are the coolest ones.

2. That is a very aesthetically pleasing collection. I’d be proud as shit if I were you after laying them all out like that.

3. You should recreate that photo of the kid with all the Pokémon cards sprawled out on the floor. It would be hilarious to know it existed, even if I never saw it.

I had an older picture that was nicer, it was all laid out with my professional poker chips, but it's way out of date.

Think we talked about this before around the time you kickstarted my Derren Brown obsession: biggest mistake I ever made was letting my friends know that I liked collecting decks of cards. It was a fun little hobby I had, whenever I was out and about on vacation or something and saw a cool themed deck I'd snag it.

Now I'm the Card Guy and every birthday/Christmas gift is cards. Which is sweet and all, but it was my little thing finding nifty decks and such and now it's not as fun anymore.

That said, my collection is nowhere near as great as yours, Cole. Seriously cool stuff in there. Would have jumped at the chance to add that Dr Pepper one to my collection.

See, I think yours is way cooler cause it's mostly ACTUAL Bicycle. The art decks are sweet and all but it doesn't feel as "legitimate" to me as yours do. Your collection is much more like what I was setting out to do when I started.

its funny because I just said to someone "I think this is making me reconsider my stance on getting decks"

Before the only decks I'd ever buy for myself were Bicycle, no matter how cool they were. Then some friends started getting me some rare/old/unique decks that weren't Bicycle. but I'm wondering if I should just expand to non Bicycle now.

just got home from NYC with some treats for myself.

20230823_162731.jpg
I went to Tannens Magic Shop in NYC which is the oldest magic shop in the country.

the gold wrap bicycle is apparently super rare, created for magicians. the back even says "traditionally cut for magicians"

the blue Elites deck is actually a marked deck and is gonna be fun to screw around with.

the foil backs and mini decks are cool.

then I got the Hershey deck at the Hershey's Store, and the SNL one at the NBC Store at Rockerfeller.

welp I'm jealous you keep shaming my collection and I don't like it.
Okay then this will be the last one since you asked to see it:
