Capcom is doing way too much! ...Guess I should probably bump World up a couple notches in the backlog queue, lest they decide to be silly and nuke those servers or something.

Anyway, the teaser looks pretty fantastic! They definitely learned a few things and opted to push harder thanks to the likes of Exoprimal. There's a lot happening on-screen there between enemy count and weather conditions.

World was my first MH game and I put some crazy hours in. Still need to go back and finish off the expansion.

Muscle memory is all gone by this point though, so need to relearn a bunch of movesets for a while before I can really make a push lol

Did you have a hard time getting into World when it first came out? I thought I was going to love this game, but found myself giving up after like 2 hours. Tried again some time later, and the same thing happened. I love A-RPGs, do I just dislike J-RPGs or something?
MonHun is the epitome of Acquired Taste. I bounced off of it hard, twice, prior to World being a thing. On the PSP and the 3DS. It's just very, very different than a lot of other stuff out there, and there's an enormous learning curve to each and every weapon type, monster type, and hell even the controls with the patented (crab) claw control style.

They've definitely made improvements over the years, and World is definitely the most accessible. But, yeah, nothing wrong with not being into it even if you've tried out each weapon type (or at least the ones that appeal to you aesthetically) and can't find a good fit/comfort. Obviously having friends you can play with would help getting over the hurdle too, and hopefully Wilds here supports cross-platform because World not basically doomed at minimum Xbox. Unsure how healthy PC is.

My biggest issue was definitely the learning curve I would say. Had I played on PC, I would have a command console to ...help me in certain moments šŸ„² (Elden Ring comes to mind also lol).
Ch-ch-cheating?! Not only the game, but yourse--*bodied*

Haha, yeah, you really gotta come at MonHun with a certain level of patience and dedication for a good number of hours before it starts to flow. It's very, very much like a (competitive/hardcore) fighting game in that way, and not really so much something you pick up and just immediately start enjoying. Even World, for all of the concessions made.

Regarding the claw control style, controllers with programable back buttons are fucking god send for this game.

And yeah, each weapon type has such an huge and unique learning curve. Each weapon is so different in handling and playstyle, that you might as well almost be playing a completely different game.

One thing that felt like a let down, is that apparently due to engine limitations (or some technical whatzit), the "uniqueness" of the weapon designs in previous games really didn't exist in World. So every weapon in the bone tree, was just the base bone weapon with some monster bits glued on. Likewise for the other trees.

MH games seem on paper like the type of games I love: high skill, action-based games with huge freaking dinosaurs to contend with... The problem, at least with the only MH game I ever played (Tri) is that grinding became such a pain. It really wasn't that fun fighting the same monsters over and over again. I wonder if that issue has been fixed in later games, but I suspect it's more of a feature than a problem for most people.

It's absolutely a feature, yeah. MonHun is effectively either the progenitor of the third "wave" of MMORPGs (first being Everquest, second being World of Warcraft) or one of the harbingers of the apocalypse that brought us Live Service games depending on who you ask. Like if you were to add a couple of towns to the games, and those towns were hubs of like a couple hundred people, MonHun would 100% qualify in everyone's book as being an MMO. Because at that point you're talking about a game identical in structure to something like Phantasy Star Online, which is cited as being an inspiration.

So if you're playing solo, and not chasing loot as a secondary function of something more meta-oriented like challenging your personal best kill times or trying out new weapons/loadouts, you're probably not going to have a great time. Even with friends a lot of MonHun players still bitch and moan about about drop rates and rare spawns. As they do in most MMOs. :chuckle
