Anyone playing this?

I'll go ahead and say that my experience with MH games is limited. I had a buddy who was super into them, so whenever they'd release, he'd be hyping TF out of it, so I'd buy in to that hype, start playing the game, get bored immediately, and then never touch it again.

That said - a game similar enough to Pokemon GO, where you go out in the real world and slay monsters to level up and upgrade gear and all that fun stuff...well, that's been a thought I've had since the release of Pokemon GO. So, the launch of this game certainly piqued my interest.

I'm currently HR 17, and on the first 2 'quests' of Chapter 3 (Slay 5 Large Monsters and Slay 10 Monsters), and I gotta say - even though it's reached the point of just repetition for the sake of repetition, I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I'm kind of excited to see how it holds up in higher levels, and what higher-* Monsters await me, even if it is just the same tap tap tap swipe swipe tap tap tap repeat to no greater end. Like, with Pokemon GO - you kind of look past the repetition because you can collect them, evolve them, etc. With MH...I suppose my 'collection' is really just the weapons and armor. Another key difference, I'm guessing, is going to be the fact that there is actual progression in MH NOW, as opposed to PoGO. Sure, higher Trainer Levels give you higher chances of catching higher CP Pokemon, which is probably super important to people who do the raids and PvP stuff. But, I don't care about those things, and...really, not caring about them hasn't impacted the game one bit. With MH NOW, though...the more you progress, the higher difficulty you'll encounter with the Monsters. And since drops are somewhat sparce (and admittedly, I'm probably not truly utilizing the 'break' feature of the battles all that efficiently) and since Armor and Weapons use the same parts you collect, I've been finding it a bit daunting when selecting Armor and Weapons to spend resources on.

I have the Knife that has Poison dmg, and the Knife that has Water dmg (as well as the base Iron Knife), and then I have the Poison Great Sword (and the base one). But, I just unlocked all the rest of the weapons, and...boy, do I not have the slightest idea what I need to do now. One part of me is saying "Duh, get something with Paralysis dmg" - but...what? I read online that Great Sword is super efficient for breaking parts, so that kind of appeals to me - but also speed at which you dispatch with the Monster plays into the parts you are rewarded from that encounter. The Great Sword is slow AF, you lose the shield, and...reddit says the dmg output isn't as good as it needs to be to make up for the drawbacks. They say that I should do Bow or Bow Gun. But...again...they're not in unison on that; some people say it's not time-effective to do it, others say it's OP due to the range that it lets you play at, and since there's unlimited ammo. Not having a shield isn't a factor when you can stay outside of the attack range of the Monster, but it will take you longer to kill the Monster. They also say that the Bow or Bow Gun are too dependent on Armor skills.

Sooooo - basically, I'm in a holding pattern of not spending any of my parts I'm gathering on Upgrades or Forges, because I'm not sure what to spend it on...and don't want to waste the parts on something that won't prove useful, and also leave me in a position where I've progressed beyond my capabilities, and I'm stuck spawning Monsters I have no hope of defeating.

For what it's worth, here's what I have:
Head: Kulu Headpiece (Grade 2) - Lv 2/5 (includes Lock On at Lv 1)
Chest: Leather Mail (Grade 1) - Lv 2/5
Hands: Leather Globes (Grade 1) - Lv 1/5
Waist: Leather Belt (Grade 1) - Lv 1/5
Legs: Kulu Greaves (Grade 2) - Lv 2/5 (includes Critical Eye at Lv 1)

Unequipped Armor is just the Leather Headgear and Leather Trousers, both Grade 1 and Lv 1/5. I haven't forged any of the other Armor.

For Weapons, I have:
Knives (Sword & Shield)
Hunter's Knife (Grade 1) - Lv 5/5 (129/0%/None)
Jagras Edge (Grade 2) - Lv 4/5 (165/0%/49 Water - includes Perfect Rush Combo (SP) at Lv 1)
Blooming Knife (Grade 2) - Lv 1/5 (144/0%/100 Poison - includes Perfect Rush Combo (SP) at Lv 1)
Carapace Edge (Grade 1) - Lv 2/5 (118/0%/None)...didn't intend on leveling this up, but...it happened.

I don't have:
Girros Knife (144/0%/100 Paralysis)

Great Swords
Blooming Blade (Grade 1) - Lv 1/5 (100/0%/50 Poison)
Carapace Buster (Grade 1) - Lv 2/5 (118/0%/None)

I don't have:
Buster Sword (100/0%/None)
Jagras Blade (95/0%/25 Water)
Girros Blade (144/0%/100 Paralysis)

Every Other Weapon Type - I have forged 0 of them

Obviously, Elemental dmg is important, so whatever I need...I need to have it in Raw, Water, Poison and Paralysis. As far as I can tell, there is no Weapon with Thunder dmg, even though there's at least one Monster with a weakness to Thunder dmg. But, if there is (perhaps it'll be unlocked at a higher level, or different chapter), then I'll need that, as well.

Anyway, I've droned on long enough...if you've made it this far, I apologize and I just...gotta beg for some assistance. This game is really playing on my OCD and ADHD with the resource management. Obviously, I want all weapons and armor, at max level. But that's not feasible, so I just need to know what I should be focusing on as I'm progressing, and the rest will fall in place, I'm hoping.

I'm an experienced MH player and I put nearly 1000 hours into Monster Hunter World.

With that said though - I haven't played the mobile version although now I'm fairly intrigued. I used to play another gps game (Orna) and became very obsessed with it.

I can offer some tips - but I don't know if it translates to the mobile version or not.

If you're interested I can share, just with the caveat that I'm not sure how applicable it will be.

I am indeed interested. Having such extensive knowledge of MH paired with the Orna experience, I reckon that worst-case scenario, it's still somewhat applicable. Also, I commend you on your MH time...I don't think I've put 1,000 hours into a single game, ever. Closest would have been Destiny vanilla, but I think that was still under 1k. I think once I hit about 500 or 750, I'm p much on to the next thing...which has turned the decision of whether or not to buy Starfield into a real dilemma lol

My only experience with either is from Pokemon GO, and that's not helping me in the slightest šŸ˜‚

So, either way you slice it...the odds I'd learn something I don't know and that would be beneficial to know are quite high. :cool2

I tried it once a few weeks for like 15 minutes and haven't opened it up again since.

Pretty much the same experience I have with every game of this type

I can certainly understand that.

Only real reason I had interest in it, was because I was already playing Pokemon GO (trying to either get the GF into more video games, or more tolerant of my being into video games lol), so I just figured...while I'm going on these walks anwyay...might as well double-up and kill some monsters, too.

You don't even want to know what my playtime was in Orna before I quit that if you think 1000 hours is a lot.

:chuckle

Anyhow, some tips (again not tailored to this version):
- Focusing on a weapon with all elements in the early to mid game is detrimental and it should be an end game thing, mainly due to scarcity of resources
- Picking one weapon that is 100% physical to be your main focus for a weapon is the way to go at this point, you may not have all elements but you also hurt your overall strength by spreading resources too thin
- For armor, don't get them all. Don't even focus on defense, focus on the boosts you can get from the armor pieces and choose from there. I always prioritize ones that'll boost my damage
- No idea if there's slots for decorations in it. But if there is, focus on a few boosts rather than spreading it out
- Learn enemy break points and weak points, this'll help make the fights easier and get you more materials
- Don't be afraid to not get that new armor or weapon if you won't immediately benefit, hoarding materials to power up what you'll use in most situations is the name of the game

...aaaand I think I'll go download this.

I may go get Orna - I've never heard of it before, but if I'm going to be out walking around, anyway...might as well pull a good, old-fashioned Chili's Triple Dipper šŸ¤”:shrug

I can subscribe to this, 100%. Now, the question becomes "which physical weapon is going to be the most advantageous?" Which, I realize, is like asking which tool in the toolbox is the best one - they all likely serve different roles and have different areas where they're better suited. I'm assuming I want to focus on either highest DPS, to ensure I kill the thing in the 75s time window (which will be more of a dilemma in the later difficulties), or focus on whatever helps me break off pieces the easiest (so I can get more loot, as loot is king). But, I don't know which is which in those - having not used any of the weapons before. Great Sword is very slow, and I haven't noticed an increase in breaks when using it compared to Knife (S&S) - which is considerably faster at dispatching with the beasts.

I'm also now wondering if the Paralysis affix on the Girros pieces helps to hold Monsters in place while you whack away at their break points? šŸ¤”

Yeah, I haven't really put a bunch into armor yet - they seem to have a lot of different Skills that may or may not prove to be Useful. The Headpiece I have has a Lock On skill that allows you to target specific break points, but I wind up killing the thing too fast to get multiple (or even sometimes just one) break point. I have another piece that supposedly helps boost crit chance - which is good for killing, but could also be good for breaking? It's Lv 1, at the moment, so I'm not really seeing the impact it's making, if any.

So far - no decorations that I know of. I'm still relatively low HR, though, so they may unlock later in the game. I know some armor that I was reading about is still not available to me, which suggests further unlocks await.

And, to that end, there are no Weapons available to forge, at my current level, that have Fire or Thunder affixes...but I did just pick up some stuff from a bush called Thunderbugs - which appear to be used in crafting. So...have to assume those things will be unlocked as well. There is a lot to this game, it feels like, that I haven't experienced yet. Both due to my low HR and to the fact I haven't really had a chance to get out and explore (mainly just been playing it from my chair while working, in the car at long stop lights, and at the GF's house - so...I'm probably missing a lot of things).

...aaaand I think I'll go download this.

šŸ˜‚ - Well, I don't know what good friends are in this game (except potentially making late-game Hunts - and, presumably raids, if they exist - easier), but I know you can join 'hunts' via QR code, so if you want an in-game friend:

I have a Referral Code (we both would get 3 paintballs to mark Large Monsters to hunt later, 5x healing potions, and 300 zenny - which is the in-game currency, or one of the in-game currencies, anyway): 2VXR8M36

And I also have my Friend Code: 1373 0897 4223

Orna has the GPS esque elements of these other games but it's also a lore/story-driven turn based rpg. At the time I retired I was #5 Global. It's not as popular as Pokemon/MG due to marketing and name recognition but it's got some of the best GPS game elements I've seen.

MHW had like 13 types, not sure if this has as many. One of the big considerations of the games is complexity of movesets which I don't know if it matters.

For what it's worth, hammer was always my favourite from a damage output and breaking perspective.
I'm also now wondering if the Paralysis affix on the Girros pieces helps to hold Monsters in place while you whack away at their break points? šŸ¤”
Paralysis in the games typically was used to set up monster hits or combos over breaking. It could serve a use here.

Critical boost is always good. Same with attack boost and other similar ones. Lock On seems interesting.

I put in the referral code so hopefully you get it.

I've stopped playing for now. I keep getting met with a traveling too fast message despite only walking. It got frustrating and feels way too aggressive.

Much thanks @TD !

And, yeah - my PoGO does that everytime I launch the app, which is almost never while Iā€™m driving (or in a car).

I wound up having to forge a hammer for a quest, so I just did the Blooming Hammer, but didnā€™t put any upgrades into it. Got more breaks than I have with S&S or GS, though! Hammers might be the way to go.

Will report back with my findings, and reply further when Iā€™m back from the gym

This is one of the big reasons I always loved hammers. Their breaking power is great and it also has large damage output.

I'm up to HR24 and just beat Paomulu.

The 3* monsters are a huge jump in damage, wow.

I'm currently using Sword n Shield. The backstep charge attack does wonders.
