so since Manga/Manhwa is different from graphic novels technically I figured I make this thread just to keep it separate from the graphic novel and Comic thread. if someone feels that it's unnecessary then we can merge things or whatever.

I honestly haven't read any manga in awhile. last I read was Kagurabachi and I haven't read that in awhile. I'm also way behind on chainsaw man should probably catch up on both at some point

I got some app that seems to be yet another website scrubber, but it does work for getting most titles I read. Think it was like comickz or something.

I have a habit of reading a bunch before laying down and for a bit in the morning when I wake up. I'm into at least couple dozen different ones of varying quality. Some are just mindless entertainment where as some actually have great world and character building where I'm interested in the plot.

two manga i always recommend, both finished works, both absolutely amazing art, both have had anime adaptions but one of them probably won't ever get finished and the other one is a netflix cash cow

  • Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous): features a world set in the far (i'm talking like thousands of years) future where the only sentient beings on earth are anthropomorphic gemstones with lifespans ranging in the hundreds of years. every now and then they have to do dramatic battle with the lunarians, mysterious alien beings who live on the moon and collect the gem-people for jewelry. the main character, phosphophyllite (phos for short) is the youngest and most brittle of the gems so they (oh yeah you KNOW they don't have gender anymore) are basically given busy work to make them feel like they have a purpose. along the way they keep breaking and having to get put together and rebuilt, sometimes using other materials. what if the ship of theseus was a person? what if you didn't have to suffer anymore? what if you were toxic like, literally toxic, like literally constantly exuding toxic materials that kill everything they touch? what if you were alone for ten thousand years? what if that didn't even matter? some of the most gorgeous art and panelwork i have ever seen in any manga.
  • Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon is its official localization but i've never much cared for it, a more literal translation is Dungeon Meal, i just still call it dunmeshi): first season of the anime aired on netflix last year, second season has been announced. the anime is a really faithful and amazing adaption, but i can't recommend the original manga enough. ryoko kui is amazing at drawing both dungeon monsters and varying body types that accurately reflect what you would see in a dungeoneering world with elves and halflings and gnomes and trolls and orcs and the like. some of the best worldbuilding i have ever encountered in any work of fiction. i have been singing its praises since 2017 and i do not plan on stopping anytime soon
