I've only just started this game. Plan on it being a time waster till FF7 Rebirth, then come back to it when I'm done with that one...

But are all Yakuza games all cutscenes and 2 minutes of actual gameplay? No complaints on the story so far, but it's hard to get into a game that keeps you OUT of game play this much.

that’s typical, yeah. yakuza games are often frontloaded and backloaded with story, especially one like this that’s a direct sequel to not just one but two games. (like a dragon and gaiden) once you make it to around chapter 3 or 4 (in other words once you’re in hawaii) the game starts opening WAY up.

I remember watching my friend "play" Metal Gear Solid 4 when it first came out.

Long ass cutscene. Move literally 10 feet. Long ass cutscene.

I gave him a huge amount of shit for that nonsense.

I later got hooked on the Yakuza franchise. He subsequently got into them after I wouldn't shut up about them.

He is a better person than me, because he never called me out on my eventual hypocrisy.

I just waded into chapter 5 last night. I'm not addicted the same way you are, but I'm enjoying it. I also have zero issues about knowing on Thursday I'll be putting it down for the foreseeable future when I get FF7 Rebirth... and I'm someone who hates starting a game and not finishing it before moving on to the next (but I doubt I finish this in the next 2 days).

So far it's reminding me a little of Persona meeting Saints Row. And I like it. But I'm also still finding it hard to engage with given the sheer AMOUNT of cutscenes and how long they are. I'm already finding myself skipping some of the subquest cutscenes. Like I don't need to spend 7 minutes (NOT hyperbolic) listening to a producer beg Ichiban to replace someone on a mall version of American Gladiators... just ask him, let's do the side quest and move on.

Other than that, I miss games with turn based combat. Why I fell in love with Persona late. I know this is fairly new for the Like a Dragon series, but it's Persona like combat is fun to me. I'll take this any day.

I skip most of the side quest cutscenes as well because they are so long. It's crazy how much effort they tried to put into it, but they are still uninteresting stories.

The story starts to take hold around chapter 6, though, its a really slow burn up until that point. I have been spending time just doing everything else. Sujimon battles have taken over a lot of my time.
