Hello, I remember when I was a kid using this place to look up cheat codes for games. I was never much a part of any active community nor was I aware of such an active community, but I am still happy to see that this place still exists even in just a message board form. I also love that the spirit of this community is carried out as a message board since this is something that seems to be a dying breed nowadays in the greater world of social media. Facebook, X, and Discord seem to dominate the internet now to where a lot of the world wide web is just boring.

Though I wish I knew where to change my avatar. I cannot see anywhere to do this in my account settings. Either way, I would like to just introduce myself since this feels weird that I am still new despite the fact I used to frequent the website as a child.

How is everyone doing today/tonight?

Glad to see another new name around here, and that you recognize the importance of this kind of medium and the lack of love it gets in today’s modern internet landscape. Everyone here has kind of held on to the “old ways” of internet communities, so it’s a nice separation from the others you mentioned.

Welcome to the community!

I think having grown up with forums/message boards in general during the 00s just ruined social media for me. I've never been able to get into Facebook, Twitter, etc. the way I could a forum. Even the slightly more forum-ish ones like Reddit never scratched the same itch.

This. Unfortunately compared to the internet 15 years ago, bots are ubiquitous and we had to lock up some of the permissions for brand new folks.

However, I went in and manually gave you the permission to upload an avatar, so you should be able to now and won't have to wait out the official "verification" period.

Ah yes, I remember the days of looking up & printing off game guides from the old site. Nothing like having binders full of them! ^^

Same way with me, could never get into those centralized platforms. I much prefer independent communities such as these.

Anyways, welcome aboard, lad. Glad to have you onboard the ship!

Unless you're a Wigan fan, in which case, we'd have to make you walk the plank! =P

Same here. I have a Facebook, but only utilize messenger. The others? Nope. Never had a Reddit account, never will.

I dunno why I didn’t think of that this time, considering I’ve done it before.

If you were REAL bad about it, you went out and got packs of clear sleeves to preserve them/highlight certain cheats.

And internet back then wasn't as convenient as it is today, especially if you were unfortunate enough to be stuck in the land of dial-up.

Yup, my friends and I used to share cheat sheets if one of us made it to the library at school first, and then when we got older not all of us had printers.

I remember when my library had a limit of 5-10 pages allowed to be printed, so I would print codes almost every day, even for games I didn’t have because one day I might and I wasn’t going to let a lack of codes stop me from beating it

Yup! “Black ink only, recycled paper only. 10 pages per week. School-related materials only.” We used to take turns printing one study sheet, 8 cheat sheets, and one study sheet thinking we were slick because if the teacher grabbed the stack they’d see a study sheet on top and bottom.
