How Often Do You Work Out?

Not nearly often enough. I'm slacking there because of depression issues.
When I was going through a bout of it in uni, running started to put me in a much better mood. Incorporating some exercise into your weekly routine can really help with depression! Unless...
I just go walking with my wife some nights. I haven't been to a gym in forever since my experience with a sex offender
...Jesus. I can't blame you for not wanting to go back. That's fucked up.

I try to go to the gym 3x a week. Whenever I'm on vacation, I neglect the gym though. I had a month vacation and put on 5 kilos and all of my lifts dropped by like 40-60 pounds. Feels like shit. It'll take me at least 4 months to get back where I was physically.

When it hits me I just can't get the brain to work properly. Getting out and getting away from everything would help, but it's like I physically can't make myself do that. Working on it with my therapists, because I'm turning to self-destructive habits lately to get an endorphine rush, like junk food eating, and it's ruining my body, my mind and my life. Dysthymia, I tell ya...it's a bitch!

Getting started is always the hardest part. As soon as you commit to going for a run, put on those sneakers, and take your first step outside, it's already a victory.

...The second hardest part is pushing through the running stitches that occur when you first start running again :D

Anyway, not trying to come off like an over-excitable labrador going "hey yeah just do it you can do it get started and you can do it!" -- just sharing my own experience!

When I inevitably take breaks from running in the winter and then first come back...man, convincing myself to "just get to that sign" and then "okay you did that, now that cool looking house on the corner" all the way until I finish...it's tough. It gets easier the more I'm able to finish runs. The "you did this last time this time should be easier" is a much simpler conversation to have with myself mid-run.

Seriously, if you get disheartened during a run, just think about me saying that.

Even when I'm in my best shape I need to convince myself I can do it and not just walk, and at those points I'm doing multiple 5Ks per week at a fairly decent clip (nothing that would win races or anything, but respectable finishes and such).

Everyone has struggles of getting through their reps or their routes.
