So we took our girls to the crayola factory and the town happens to be having a “garlic fest” at the same time.

I saw this tent that had a garlic lager and decided to try it. It wasn’t bad. It had a strong garlic aroma, but over all was light for a lager and had a mild taste. The garlic aftertaste was slightly stronger but nothing off-putting.

This made me wonder, what are some things you’ve seen or had where you’ve wondered, how is that a flavor?

I just remembered @Singin Hobo once shared a photo-collage he took of the vendors at the Texas state fare and if I’m remembering correctly, they were selling deep fried sticks of butter. While that isn’t a weird flavor combination, it’s still a wtf for food choice

I've yet to have a garlic flavored beer, but I'd love to try one.

Weirdest one I've ever had was this:

Big-Shed-Golden-Stout-Time-200323-124329.png

It's based on an ice cream dessert bar called a "golden gaytime". It tastes like chocolate, nougat, honey, and vanilla ice cream, and it absolutely nails the combination of flavors AND still tastes great at the same time.

One of the strangest things I’ve ever eaten was also at a garlic festival. I had garlic ice cream. It was basically just vanilla ice cream with minced garlic in it. At first it wasn’t bad, but I think I got some from the bottom of the batch and all the garlic had settled. So there was just way too much and it ended up being gross lol. Usually there’s no such thing as too much garlic imo but this has been the sole exception to that rule

Being from Baltimore, we tend to put Old Bay on everything. It’s good on your standard stuff like fries or wings outside of seafood. Hell, I’ve even had it lightly put on a steak before and it was good.

The weirdest thing I’ve ever seen it used in was ice cream.

Dessert stouts in general are pretty weird. I've had blueberry and maple syrup pancake stouts and chocolate mudcake stouts before, and they were the best beers I've ever had.
One of the best beers I’ve had was a similar style beer from a microbrewery when I lived in the Philadelphia suburbs. Beer was called Glazing Saddles and was great. It’s aptly called a donut style ale

the beer description:
Glazing Saddles is a beer made with local Suzy Jo Donuts in mind, and in the mash. Light in color, low in bitterness with a smooth and creamy mouth feel. A bit of vanilla and just a touch of cinnamon make for a tasty treat anytime. "Candygram for Mongo!" 5.1% abv.

For those who don’t know, Suzy Jo donuts are some of the best in the Philly area (always top 10 when listing best donut shops in Philly and the surrounding area)

There's a Gelato chain called Paciugo that has two floral flavors. I asked them what "rose" tasted like and they just told "like biting into the flower." They are really good! *The Gelato, don't go eating your neighbor's rose bushes

We have a local Wings chain that has a pb&j flavor. I'm not particularly find of it but a lot of people I know really like them

What is this brewery called? Seeing Citizens Bank Park is on my list to see... this would be a great stop.

Conshohocken Brewing Company. I think they only have it around national donut day

...wtf. Why do people do this?

Here's a quote from a CBC article about it

"Some noteworthy midway treats to look out for include ketchup and mustard ice cream, the Kool-Aid chicken burger, peanut butter pickle dogs, Flamin' Hot dill cookies and more."

Those both sound delicious.

A lot more delicious than ketchup or garlic ice cream. Blech.

The strangest thing that immediately comes to mind is bacon vodka. The smell alone was so terrible I didn't even taste it (and I'm a very firm believer of "try anything once!").

I have a breakfast/lunch place here in STL that has a Benedict that you can put a type of hollandaise sauce that was made with some kind of local bourbon brand. I don't know how on earth that is could be any good.

Also, Harney and Sons Tea has a "bourbon infused" tea. It's basically black tea with bourbon "flavor". It tastes like wood or something. It's not good. I love the Hot Cinnamon Sunset one, but the bourbon one is just not good.

UPDATE: my wife said the person told her it was “Peach Beer” flavored. Weird notion but the thought didn’t put me off.

Here’s the verdict:

Scent - peachy and something offputting

Mouthfeel - actually feels a little tingly, for lack of a better word, on the tongue, like the head of a beer. Weird for a chip, but impressive

Taste - god awful. Made me feel like I wanted to puke 🤮. Made me very sad because I have very high hopes when I first saw the bag
