GDQ started today. Why are you not watching it!? If you don't know what GDQ is, it's a video game speed running telethon to raise money to fight cancer, (summer event raises money for doctors without borders). It's good fun and they have raffle prizes to win.

One of these prizes this year is a legit morning star like what is in Castlevania. Like on a chain kind. For reals.

But seriously go check out GDQ, it will be on all week raising money.

I've heard of this and have seen YouTube videos from it in the past. Seems like a great cause and it's nice to see this type of stuff.

Personally I'm not a big speedrun guy, but I can appreciate the dedication to trying to get a perfect time without error.

It more than just fast. They do all kind of tricks and break games and stuff. I think this year a dog is speed running a game even. It's really fun to watch.

There's a few originally somewhat smaller streamers that I had followed, subbed to, and watched grow and a few of them have also become speedrunners. Just last year a couple.of them made it to gdq. Both playing as well as co-commentating some games. It's neat!

I tend to try to watch folks I know, games I've played, or some games where I'm wondering how the heck have they broken those to finish them so quick. I also always enjoy the Celeste TAS runs.

It's a great game. Like a spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, made by IGA who used to oversee the Castlevania series.

GDQs (and the smaller women/gnc-focused Frame Fatales) are always highlights of the year for me. speedrunning is sports to me and this is my super bowl. my favorite parts are always the super-old games or games i've never heard of with small but dedicated speedrunning communities

I used to take off almost the entire week from work for these.

My favorite part is when they do the Awful Games block.

That and Mario Maker relays.
