I guess I'm on a roll since the only ones I've played (as far as I can remember) are PoR and Echoes. Though I dont think I ever got far on Echoes, but luckily I had dozens of runs on PoR.

Good to see you drop by, Rick.

I don't think I ever fully recovered from my first foray into FE. Did Blazing Blade, Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance back-to-back in like '06~'07, then... just never got around to playing Radiant Dawn after that released later. Pretty sure the only English physical releases that I haven't purchased were the spin-offs, so they're there if/when I get the itch. But so far, nothing.

I have never played a Fire Emblem game before, but I noticed that The Blazing Blade is available on Nintendo Switch Online. Also, until this thread, I thought it was just called Fire Emblem (because there's no title on the artwork).

Your one-word review is tempting to make me try it, but it seems like it's a pretty long investment (though probably much shorter than most other FE games).

Fire Emblem (GBA), as the first localized title in the series, works as a really good entry point! the first ten or so chapters on an initial playthrough work as basically a tutorial to get you familiarized with the game, and then from there you're off into the world of political intrigue and dragons and cool swords and getting really mad when your 93% chance to hit misses.

fates = dear god
understatement of the century. i fear for the discourse that would have swamped us had the FEC or FE Forum still been in existence when those games came out

anyway are you still on an 800x600 resolution for counting lines or

EDIT:
Is engage that bad? I haven't purchased it yet.
you know how candy tastes really good but eating a lot of it is really bad for you and can make you feel sick? that was my experience playing that game. it did a lot of fun things i hope no other fire emblem game ever does and the story has all the nuance of a stale bag of m&ms. at the same time i had my expectations set ludicrously low so i had fun with it but i will probably not replaying it anytime soon if ever

Nice Rick, agree with a lot of your list.

Recently played through Fates (Conquest and Revelations). Not a fan of how anime the look of the series has become. Fancied Camilla though. Enjoyed the twists and gameplay. Frustrated by the difficulty on classic mode but I got through it with a lot of casualties. Did Revelations on easy mode (party members cant perma-die) and it was much more fun to play.

Currently trying Awakening. Story is blehh so far but I like the matches you can have against characters from old FE games. Nice way to train your party.

No part of Path of Radiance felt rushed to me, the game is a 10/10 in my book. :clap

genealogy of the holy war = great

sacred stones = okay

Sacred Stones was my first and only so far, I liked it, solid story and characters. I didnt like the weapon system and the phase system (which Im sure is how all FE games is) I dont like as much as how shining force tackles it. In shining force every character moves based on speed so you can move one character, then maybe a couple of the enemy then a few of yours. It makes for more strategy and risk reward because you cant move all your units, heal at the end. Enemy may attack a weak ally before you have a chance to heal in shining force

Holy war will at some point be my next one, it's been on my list to play for a bit now

reviving this thread after over a year of dormancy because i'm sooooooo close to finishing fe4 finally and i think the craziest thing is that it actually exceeded my expectations somehow despite me basically hyping it up for myself for twenty years straight? whenever i tried to play it before i'd always make it through the prologue and sometimes chapter 1 before falling off during chapter 2. this time i stuck it through and i'm so glad i did.

couple of fun notes from this run:

- i was very basic about going for pairings so i have a lot of standard ones like ayra/lex, lewyn/erinys, lachesis/beowulf, claud/lene (shouts out to COIRPRE), and chulainn/brigid. my one major goof was i accidentally ended up with edain and dew together when i was trying to pair her with midir. so lester ended up being basically useless but lana is forever goated AND it's so cheap to repair all her staves
- lewyn is so fucking funny
- "arena abuse" being a term mainly associated with the gba games is so funny because fe4 invented that
- fe4 easily has the best soundtrack of any fe game and it's not particularly close. thank you yuka tsujiyoko for everything
- lewyn is SO fucking funny
- though the FEC has been lost to the annals of history and time, it has been fun going around all the old haunts even if i barely remember anything that actually happened in any rps aside from names of places (shouts out to "Grandbell" and "Lenster") and people ("Tinny" my friend "Tinny"!)
- man if they do remake this game like theyre definitely going to they are going to have to make some Choices about some of the stuff going on in this plot. engage was a cotton-candy ass story and it would be so funny to go directly from that to The Big Bad Pulls Strings To Make Incest Happen and Children Are Abducted And Sacrificed To Satiate The Dark God, let alone everything going on with arvis's family backstory and what happens to poor tailtiu.
- speaking of engage boy howdy i can see why they made sigurd's ability thing just completely broken movement.
- this last chapter is insane. i've made it through the first three castles and there's still so much left. i haven't even made it to the deadlords or the pegasus knight bosses everyone hates yet!

looking forward to thracia
