Too much, I'm sure. But they're betting the farm on this and can't afford another FNC, sooo.

I took it as a threat to FF7 fans/Remake enjoyers when they first announced they were doing this! They're totally gonna do a dumb and put Kadaj into Rebirth or something.

Can't wait for Regenesis to release so they can torture everyone with a remaster of Dirge of Cerberus in the lead-up.



Also, obligatory: Spirits Within was a better movie than Advent Children!

All I remember is Spirits Within was a totally enjoyable, good looking sci fi flick!

Plot was weird in that movie. I think they could have done better. I really feel that movie was just Square flexing at the time as a way to advertise Final Fantasy X and future titles.

I dunno, dude. That’s a pretty expensive flex. If anything, I feel like it was their way of trying to capitalize off of the success that the first Resident Evil movie had. Remember, prior to that there was a terrible Mortal Kombat sequel, the first Mortal Kombat movie, and then… Super Mario Bros. before that. Squaresoft may have seen the success Capcom had, and wanted to jump in early.

The Spirits Within was Square getting it into their head that they were/had professional writers, establishing their own studio to make movies and anime (hey guys remember Final Fantasy Unlimited? ...No? Neither did I until like three seconds ago), and then doing the Finding Out. Poor Gooch found out the hardest and the brand ain't never been the same without him.

...Honestly if they had actually based Spirits Within on one of the games, especially FF6 or FF7? Like no prequel/sequel shit, just retelling the story from the game and maybe selecting specific segments to highlight/expand? I think it would've done very well. My memory tells me the biggest offense of the movie is that it didn't really have a clear premise, didn't relate to what FF was known for to that point, and there weren't any significant cameos/callbacks.

I liked the movie. I personally thought it was good and it opened the door to FFX for me back in the day. I was just disappointed that it bombed as bad as it did.
